CHAPTER NINE

Dean POV

Vampires. A small nest of them. Sam and I took them out easy, but then nearly two dozen more showed up and I had to call Cass in to help. With the third person the job was over much faster. We got back to the bunker late two days later. Isabelle was sitting in the library, reading a book by lamp light and eating a burger. Her bright blue-green eyes looked up as we walked in, taking in our dirty, tired faces.

"Welcome back," she greeted us.

"Thanks," Sam replied. "I'm going to go get cleaned up."

"Everything okay around here without us?"

"Mm hmm. Went into town and bought a few things. Restocked the kitchen. It was pretty peaceful."

She glanced from me to Cass, a small smile playing at the corners of her lips. I looked over at the angel, who was meeting her gaze with a similar expression on his face. Smirking slightly, I muttered something about also getting cleaned up before leaving the pair alone. I made my way to my room and stripped off the grime covered clothes, hopping in the shower and letting the water wash away the dirt and monster guts from my body.

I thought about the small interactions I had seen between my daughter and Cass. I knew they were close due to Cass watching over her since she was little, but something told me there was more to their relationship than that. They looked at each other like they were each other's world. Like there was no one else in the universe. Like they were in love. I didn't know if it was true, since I hadn't seen much of them together, but I had a feeling I wasn't too far off.

Shutting off the water and wrapping a towel around my waste, I headed back into my room and took out a clean outfit. Once I was changed, I made my way to the kitchen and grabbed a beer before heading back into the library to find Cass, Isabelle and a freshly changed Sam as well. Sam was eating a salad and Isabelle slid a burger over to me as I took a seat at the table. I smiled, taking a big bite before opening the beer and taking a swig.

"Do you want to finish? I mean, it's your senior year," Sam addressed Isabelle.

"I don't know... I guess it would be nice... I just don't really want to be the new kid for my senior year of high school, you know?"

"Yeah, I understand that. It might be worth it, though."

"Maybe... I'll think about it. I'm on summer break, anyway. I have a few months to decide."

"Fair enough."

My gaze fell on Cass and Isabelle's interlocked fingers resting on the table as the conversation progressed. Cass's thumb was rubbing slow circles on the back of her hand. I chose not to comment as I continued to eat my burger. My musings from earlier were proving to be right so far. The two definitely had stronger feelings for each other than they let on.

"I'm going to get ready for bed," she announced, giving Cass's hand a slight squeeze before standing up and releasing her hold.
