CHAPTER TWO

Castiel POV

Isabelle Griffin was a special child. She had been very sick at her birth and her mother Lyla had prayed for a miracle. I showed up a week later and ended up helping the new baby. I fed her some of my blood every two hours for two weeks. However, before I could finish, demons showed up and I lost the window of opportunity to administer the last dose.

I continued to pop in to check on the young girl as she grew. She looked very much like her father. Lyla never saw me again, but Isabelle knew I was watching over her. She loved the swings, entertaining the childish dream that she could fly. It wasn't until she was nearly seven years old that I talked to her for the first time.

She and Lyla had just gotten home from the park. Lyla was in the kitchen preparing dinner for the two. Isabelle was playing in the living room when I popped in. She looked up at me and smiled before patting the spot next to her on the floor. I quietly sat down while she finished putting a new dress on her doll.

"Are you an angel?"

I blinked, startled by her question.

"Yes, I am."

The young girl nodded, satisfied with this answer.

"What's your name?"

"Castiel."

"Castiel," she repeated, brushing the doll's hair.

Silence fell between us as she continued to play quietly.

"Dinner time, Belle."

"Coming, Mama."

Laying down the doll, she stood and held out a small hand to me.

"Will you come sit with me at the table, Cass?"

The use of her father's nickname for me, which I hadn't mentioned, caught me off guard.

"Alright," I responded, taking the young girl's hand and heading with her into the dining area.

I continued to have small interactions with her as she continued to age. She was a quiet girl who mostly kept to herself, rarely interacting with other children. Everything changed at the end of her junior year of high school.
