Glancing back, you crossed your arms teasingly at Edmund behind you on the path, shaking your head at him in mock disappointment.

"Come on, Ed! It isn't far now."

He tossed his hair out of his eyes and glanced around the dilapidated remains of the castle your Scottish ancestors had built eons ago. You'd brought him here soon after The War ended because of your shared interest in fantasy-like architecture. What you were leading him to now was a special surprise, one you hoped would make him smile- something you'd seen him do less and less of every year that passed since his last visit to Narnia. You hadn't ever gone there, but you believed every word of the stories Ed told you of that magical place and you, ever the compassionate soul, felt worse about how he couldn't go back than how you'd never been.

"We've been walking for three hours, Y/N."

Just as you were about to offer a witty reply, he added softly, "These pillars remind me of the ones at Cair Paravel," and you felt your smirk fade. As he caught up, you reached out your hand to hold his, and he took it with a smile of reminiscence.

"Trust me, Edmund, once you see this part of the ruins, you'll believe the hike was worth it."

Ten minutes later, you couldn't help but smile in return at Edmund's radiant grin as he stared at the carvings of a great lion, a cliffside castle on the ocean, and four crowns above the former, all engraved upon the only wall still standing of the knight's barracks.

"It's just like it was in Narnia."

Edmund squeezed your hand as a light breeze ruffled your hair and you returned the gesture, glad to have made him smile. The faintest scent of seawater drifted across your senses as you sat down with him before the wall, Ed beginning to tell you another tale of Narnia.

Strange... you were nowhere near the sea.
