Oneshot #119

"Okay, we're on a quest!" Jason exclaimed. Percy was smiling as Estelle struggled to get her seat belt unbuckled. Snow was falling and the temperature was dropping by double digits. The sun had disappeared into the clouds while Paul and Sally got out of the car.

"Christmas quest! Christmas trees!" Estelle cheered, the three year old dressed in a jacket puffier than the 8 inches of snow Chiron let into camp. Jason could already feel his fingers start to go numb and frowned, but his mood quickly went back up when he turned to see Percy.

Percy looked like an excited puppy. Jason was half expecting him to join in Estelle's cheering.

"That's right, 'stell! We're gonna find two trees!" Percy cheered as he picked her up. She squealed and Sally laughed at the two.

"Goofball one and goofball two, we are losing daylight."

Paul was already walking through the snow. It was getting higher as snowflakes fell. Jason rarely seen snow before, Camp Jupiter being in California, but he was already over it. As beautiful as it was— how it made Percy's eyes light up, left bits of sparkle in his hair, or gave him an excuse to demand cuddles— Jason was used to hotter weather.

"Cmon, let's find the perfect trees. It's essential for Christmas," Percy grinned. His face was already pink as a gust of wind blew through his hair.

Estelle has started the painstakingly slow journey across the snow piles. Sally was behind her, trying to get the energetic girl to walk in her father's footsteps. Percy was next to Jason, holding his hand. Jason felt the wave of comfort that always came from Percy's touch and smell.

Then Percy pulled Jason's wrist. Even when being dragged behind him, Jason couldn't stay mad. His boyfriend was cute, even when Jason felt like some sort of demigod popsicle.

"I don't think the tree will fit here, Percy." Jason said. Percy huffed, the door to his cabin wide open and letting whatever cold air managed to escape from the abundance of pine needles into the cabin. Percy gave another tug.

"Percy, it's time to accept the obvious–" Jason began, only to be interrupted by the most determined tone he had ever heard.

"Fuck no. It's Christmas, so I'm going to get this ten foot tree into my cabin! You're gonna help me." He sounded so sure of himself that Jason felt like a dick.

"It's ten feet. We have not even 1/4 of it in the door. Besides, we're Greek, do we even celebrate Christmas?"

His question made Percy drop the tree. It barely moved, the bristles made a soft sound, but the tree was held by the doorframe.

"Why do you hate Christmas?"

"I can't win this, can I?"

"Not until the tree is in my cabin, no."

Jason let go of his end of the tree. The bark was starting to dig into his skin. Percy let out an undignified squeak. He shot his boyfriend an offended glare.

"Until death does us part!" Percy said with a pointed look. He gestured to the trunk and Jason sighed.

"Percy, I love you, but there is no way we can get that in here. This is way too big for us to handle and that's way too small–" a camper waking by gave them a disgusted look. Jason ignored it in favor of watching how Percy's eyes darkened.

"I channel the power of Christmas."

Fortunately for them, "the power of Christmas" gave them a blessing in the form of Percy's door breaking and the tree sliding through the gap.
