appearance niran is fairly tall with a dark complexion and a rather slim body. they have chest-length, curly plum purple hair with m-shaped bangs. on occasion, they'll tie it up into a high ponytail. their eyes are thin, tilting inwards, and are pink in color. niran has a tattoo of a black spider on their entire back.
clothing in majority of their appearances until they desert the marines, niran is seen in a white dress shirt with a black suit jacket and tie along with black slacks and shoes. they wear a standard marine jacket with purple epaulettes. one of their main outfits as a pirate is a tight-fitting black shirt and tan baggy pants with black boots.

personality niran is a typically straight-laced person. they operate by the book and rarely ever act without thinking. their justice is the same as fujitora's, which makes them one of the more humane marines. they're known for being respectful, even towards those they dislike. they're pretty introverted, not even speaking to any other marines other than aokiji and fujitora—some people might see it as them being shy, but they genuinely just don't like some of the other marines.

they're also notably dense, as numerous marines admit to crushing on them, but they never seem to notice. niran has a dry sense of humor which tends to shine when they're intoxicated, even though they're not one to drink. when confronted about such matters, they brush it off. in the case of kira, however, they get flustered and run away—a strange sight for the red dragon pirates, but a sure sign that it's true. occasionally, they can be petty or smug about certain things.

aside from matters about love, niran is generally regarded as one of the most intelligent people in the marines. they have a strong focus and drive with everything they do, which is part of the reason why they pursue a certain pirate for so long. niran has a strong understanding of the world figures and the underworld, their devil fruit being a good use for eavesdropping or infiltration. due to this, they have a lot of information that could be used for good or bad. as a pirate, they stayed relatively the same. though, the red dragon pirates make niran lose their cool on multiple occasions.

background as far as they know, niran grew up around marines. they were taken in by fujitora as a child, believing that marines were the world's savior. once they were old enough, they enlisted as a marine. most of their life was spent following fujitora while he was working. needless to say, they admired him. unbeknownst to niran, the world government which she admired had held a dark side—and it would be personal to them.

one day, they'd overheard fujitora discussing their past with another marine. at that moment, all that they knew seemed to be a lie. when they were born to slave parents, they were given away to fujitora as a desperate attempt of their parents to help them live. in the process, however, fujitora couldn't save niran's parents—resulting in their deaths. they were furious at fujitora, for not only have lied to them about their past, but for also letting their parents die.

in that moment, they decided to desert the marines because they had turned a blind eye to their parents and all the others on tequila wolf. slipping through a portal, they stumbled upon a pirate they were guarding: kira. originally, niran was planning to leave her there to rot. but, they were so mad at the marines and the world government that they decided they should make more trouble for them. so, they opened up her cell and took her through a portal. they joined kira's crew that same day, although they were beginning to regret it as soon as they joined.

relationship to kira niran is no stranger to kira. they don't necessarily know why she works so hard to catch their attention ever since they first met, but it's become amusing to them. they think that kira is extremely annoying and reckless, especially when they consider how kira gets their attention in the first place. despite that, niran can't help but to think that kira's sheer determination is endearing in a way. soon enough, they find themselves pocketing her bounty posters or telling her squad to fall back just so they can talk to her alone.
