So there's a colony of creatures on a very large island. Their only tie to the rest of the world, a landbridge, is destroyed during a stronger-than-ever  earthquake.

The island is breaking apart, as quakes, volcanic eruptions, skirmishes, disease, and famine sweep over the creatures.

The survivors are left to decide whether to work together and find a way to survive, or to fight amongst themselves until there is nothing left.
