Work encourages students to become materialistic. Many students do not save their earning for their own study. They tend to spend their earning on themselves- on clothes, music and electronic gadgets. Earning and spending money on material possessions distracts students from much more important matters such as figuring out what their goals in life are and how they reach those goals.

Working students do not have time for extracurricular activities, and if they miss the many program and clubs that colleges offer, they will never have second chance to take advantage of them. A student can participate in sports, orchestra, student government, speech clubs, drama and many other activities. The extracurricular programs give young people a chance to make friends, learn to cooperate with other, and acquire confidence. A low- level part time job such as one in a fast-food restaurant does not give students the same quality of learning experience or sense of accomplishment as the extracurricular activities available in college.

The most important problem associated with college students working is that jobs take time away from study. A college curricular is challenging. Teachers give complete long- term projects with require doing research, writing papers or delivering speeches, and sometimes creating poster or models. Teachers often assign these projects to group of students who may have to meet after school to complete their assignments. The working students are not able to collaborate with classmates after school and often cannot manage to complete even short homework assignment on his own. After four or five hours at an after school job, he return home too tired to study well. If he tries to do his homework, he loses valuable sleep and will not be able to concentrate in class the next morning. As a result, his grate is likely to drop, threatening his chances of getting good job in the future.
