No One's POV

"What do you want, scum." a mermaid with pink hair and scales asked with venom at the young boys who were basically inverts of each other. "We're sorry that we bumped into you ma'am. We didn't mean to." the one with white hair said. "Hmph. Don't do it again." she said and swam off, leaving the two mermen and a crowd of staring onlookers. "It's those two, isn't it?" someone asked to someone else.

The two swam off, back to their home. They knew that they weren't liked, and didn't know why. "Should we go and asked Uncle Clo?" the one with black hair asked once they were home, in their cave away from the city. "I think that we should, Pitch. Maybe he can help us. Plus, we haven't seen him in a while." the one with white hair replied. The one with black hair, now known as Pitch, turned to the one with white hair with a mischievous grin gracing his face. "Alright then, Pearl. Race you there!" Pitch said and swam out of their cave, heading to 'Uncle Clo's' place. The one with white hair, now known as Pearl, shook his head and headed out the cave, following his twin brother.

They made it to another cave, this one with a space above it for air. The twins broke the surface. *You won this time Pitch. But only because you got a head start and cheated.* Pearl told his twin. *Yeah right. You're just too slow.* Pitch replied and rolled his eyes. "It's been a while. Pitch, Pearl." a voice said from further in the cave. "Hello, Clock Work." the twins replied. "I'll be there in a little bit. Just wait." the voice, now identified as Clock Work, said.

Soon, a figure joined the twins in the water. He had a blue-ish tint to his skin, white hair, red eyes, a scar over his left eye, a purple cloak with a gear clasp, gloves that cover his hands, and purple scales. "Good to see you again." Clock Work greeted the twins. "You know what we came here for, don't you? You know everything." Pearl asked. "Yes. You want to know why everyone else treats you two differently." Clock Work said sadly. "Why do they treat us differently? I thought it was because of our colors, but that doesn't seem right." Pitch said.

"I knew this day would come, but I didn't want you to take it up until you were older." Clock work said sadly, looking at the twins with sadness. "What is it?" the twins asked in unison. "You two have a destiny that is tied to the fate of the ocean, and everyone in it." Clock Work told them. "I can understand why you kept it from us, but why?" Pearl asked. "Because, it would be unfair to you to start so young and not experience what it's like to be your age. But I can see that you aren't treated like that." Clock Work said. "Please. Tell us. We want to be able to protect our home and everyone that lives in it." Pitch and Pearl said at the same time. "You two have such caring hearts. Alright. Follow me." Clock Work said and lead the twins into a different part of the cave.

****************Somewhere above the Sea, on the Surface World with Humans

No One's POV

"Hurry up slowpoke!" a girl with purple eyes, black hair and fair skin ran near the edge of the beach, calling out to her friend. "Wait up Sam! Your too fast. What do you think will happen if your parents find you here?" a boy with black hair, turquoise eyes, glasses, dark skin and a red beret shouted to the girl, coming up near her. "I'll tell them that I felt constricted, so I went out for a bit." the girl, now know as Sam, said. "You know that they'll throw a fit over this." the boy told her. "Yeah. But at least I'm spending my free time with a friend, Tucker." Sam told him. "Well, that's what friends are for." the boy, now known as Tucker, replied.

After a moment of silence sitting on the beach, Sam broke it. "Do you think that all mermaids and mermen are bad?" Sam asked. Tucker was taken aback by this question. "What do you mean?" Tucker asked, confused. "Well, there have been these 'mer-hunters' coming everyday to try and convince my parents to go and hunt for them. Two of them seem like they don't know what they're doing, but the third is scary. He just radiates hate." Sam said. "And let me guess, they're convincing everyone else that mer-people are evil and must die?" Tucker asked. "Yep." Sam said.

Silence came again, but was broken by the sound of something breaking through the waves. "You hear that?" Sam asked. "Yeah. And I see something as well." Tucker said and pointed out to a rock not that far from shore, but far enough away from the shallow end that you had to swim to get to it. Sam and Tucker stood there in awe, looking at the two mermen. They were inverts of each other, but their eyes were closed. "Whoa." Sam and Tucker said quietly in unison.

Then, the two emitted a beautiful sound. There were no words, just sound. It was beautiful. Sam and Tucker sat, entranced by the beautiful sound. It then abruptly stopped, and a splash followed soon after. Sam and Tucker were broken out of the trance and stared at the rock. The mermen weren't there. "That was..." Sam trailed off. "Beautiful" Tucker finished. "Keep this between ourselves?" Sam asked. "Yep. Don't want any hunters finding out." Tucker said.

Sam and Tucker then left the beach, coming back every so often to listen to the mermen.
