Spencer Reid was not 'well'.

Everyone could see it, but nothing was done. He's been forced to take two weeks off after his abduction, and Amelia had thought that was a minuscule amount of time, but he was back opposite her at his desk, and she couldn't say she minded.

He went missing sometimes for small amounts of time, appearing from the bathrooms suddenly.

They all knew the signs.

He was angrier as well, more snappy.

-----

"We have no evidence, no apparent interaction between the unsub and the victims pre Or postmortem, And an indistinguishable MO. Should be simple,"

"Jeez Spence, you're starting to sound like me," Amelia snorts

-----

"I'll map out the area and see if I can find any places The victims would have visited in the neighbourhood,"

"Good. Maybe we can find a connection between them. I'll help you with that," Emily suggests

"I can handle it,"

"I wasn't suggesting that you couldn't,"

"Isn't that what 'I'll help you with it' means?"

"Reid. Prentiss and Rowe will help you with the geographical profiling and victimology,"

"Fine,"

-----

"I need to concentrate...How can anybody hear with all this work going on?!" Spencer slams a window shut "Have none of you noticed it's upsetting Amelia as well?!" she looks up shyly from her corner of the room, hands over her ears.

-----

"What is the matter with you?"

"What do you mean, 'what's the matter with me'?"

"I have never seen you act like this!"

"Oh, really? Oh, in the months that you know me, You've never seen me act this way? Hey, no offence, Emily, but...you don't really know what you're talking about, do you?"

-----

It was time Amelia stepped in.

She knocks on his door at 10 am on a Saturday morning, and he doesn't answer at first.

"Spence! It's me, Lia!" that gets him to open the door "Hi," her eyes scan his body, clad in pyjama bottoms and a cardigan. He takes the glance as judgement.

"I uh - didn't know you were coming,"

"It's okay," she smiles "I forgot to call. Can I come in?"

"Sure," he opens the door wider, and Amelia enters, it wasn't the first time she'd been to his apartment, but it was the first time that mattered "Is there a reason you're here or-"

"Nope," she smiles at him, standing awkwardly by his sofa, "I thought maybe we could just hang out. Watch some Doctor Who?"

"Did Emily send you?" he asks suddenly

"What, no?" he raises an eyebrow "Okay, she told me what happened, but she didn't send me," Spencer scoffs "I'm worried about you,"

"Great, you're making it about yourself,"

"Spencer," she says harshly "Don't," he weakens under her gaze

"Sorry,"

"I am your friend," she says more forcefully than she means to "I care about you and your wellbeing," she points to his sofa "Sit,"

"This isn't your house you know?" he jokes, but does as he's told, Amelia sits next to him at an angle, their hands touching slightly.

"What you went through, is...insane. And I am not here to judge you, or ridicule you for your coping mechanisms but-" she falters slightly, she'd planned this speech several times over the past week, but it was different when she was looking into his eyes.

"-but you're my friend, and I was so scared when you were taken. I watched you die Spence, and I don't want to watch it happen again, I don't want to watch you kill yourself, or lose your job because...because of what you're taking," Spencer just stares at her, blinking.

"No one's said it,"

"What?"

"No one's...admitted what they know is happening, apart from you," he says quietly "They can't, not with all the protocols...but...but you said it," he looks at her, "You said it,"

"Spencer," Amelia says quietly "When have I ever cared for protocol?"

"Quiet often actually," he shrugs, his lips turning upward

"Okay, when have I cared when someone I love is in danger?" he doesn't reply "The other month when we were talking in that motel, I never told you about Texas. When...when you went into that hostage situation on the train, I had to be held back when Gideon went in...I thought, I thought he was gonna get you killed," Spencer doesn't reply, but looks at her, vulnerable and afraid of his response "I'm here for you," she looks into his eyes "I don't know how to help you Spence, I don't know if you want help. But I'm here,"

They look at each other for a moment, and in Spencer's dazed, drugged state, he leans forward relatively quickly, his lips meeting Amelia's. Although unexpected, Amelia returns the kiss, and Spencer's hands cup her cheeks, her hands tangle in his hair slightly before she pulls back "Spence..."

"I'm sorry,"

"No, no," she shakes her head "You're not well Spencer, you don't...you don't want this, me, you just...you're not in the right frame of mind right now,"

"Yeah, yeah you're right" he nods "I'm sorry,"

"Don't, don't apologise,"

"I didn't mean to -"

"I know," she smiles and stands up "You're not well," she repeats "I just, I'll go, I said what I needed to," she opens the door "Look after yourself yeah? See you on Monday," she shuts the door, and leans on the wall next to Spencer's apartment.

He didn't want her, he was just high out of his mind...But she wanted him.
