The girls ran. They didn't hear or see the place collapse, and they didn't by the time the temple left earshot and went out of view. They don't know if W.B survived.

He told them if something happened, to get to the coordinates by pressing a button on the control pad to the building. They didn't want to leave, in hopes of his return, but they decided to move a little sooner than he had estimated. May leaped up the building and helped April up and in. She made a mad dash for the room, then nearly broke her face on the keyboard from skidding into the desk (this earned a weak chuckle from April). She slammed the button, and the building seemed to lurch before straightening itself out and hopping up.

The two sat in that room, quiet, and April let her mind wander. First, drifting from W.B, to their parents, to the village they were headed to, then to the temple. She had heard something. A whisper. It seemed to be directed at W.B though, because as he fell he had a look of recognition, but she pretended not to see.

She took a minute to think about it, and then she realized.

The temple wasn't falling then and it hadn't fallen by now.

They had been fooled.

Whatever that demon was, was more powerful than originally thought, and W.B hadn't seen anything like it. May was still unaware of this though, and her expression after learning of this information would have been priceless if it weren't under the same circumstances. At least now they knew he was relatively safe staying still. They just needed to get him before he bled out.

———
W.B was, in fact, sitting on the ground. Yes, he was in the unfazed temple, and yes, the lava was fake too, but that axe was real all right, and it cut him bad. He sat quietly to ponder if the girls would ever come back.

The reason he was so concerned was because of his anatomy. Despite all the muscle he has throughout his body, his sides have probably the least of that and fat. Not only that, but unlike normal people, his stomach(s) require his insides be wrapped like a spiral. Simply put- if he gets hit there, the first thing that's affected is the only way he would've been able to live had he gotten stuck injured anywhere else on his body.*

Luckily his fears were short lived. Mere hours later, when he was laying on his side and half asleep in a dreamless void, he could hear the faint patter of hooves on sand, and several voices of people as feet approached and hands wrapped around his arms and legs.

He closed his eyes and fell asleep, much to the dislike of whoever ended up carrying him.

AN: Why is it always the (2)'s that are so short? Whatever, it's better than 1(2) (I will never get over it until I fix it at some point).

*I'll upload a picture to show what I'm talking about the anatomy cuz I can't explain it any better.
