Chapter 19 - England

⚡️

ENGLAND.

Home to the world's most proper people, or, what I knew it for, home of Sherlock Holmes.

England was one of the most popular countries in the world, what with Big Ben, and the Queen. What wasn't there to see in that country? Full of rich history and endless secrets, I was ready to discover them.

"We are now landing. It is thirty degrees Fahrenheit and is six thirty PM." Our pilot announced as he landed. I looked up from barf bag happily. I had been clutching it the entire flight, unsure if I would need it or not.

"You can put the bag down now," Wally slowly pried the paper from my hands, throwing it in the garbage. Luckily, Bruce had a pack on the plane, so I could afford to lose one.

"Thanks," I grabbed my luggage and trudged off the plane.

"So... last stop. Are you excited?" Wally asked after we discussed take off time with the crew. Waving at the driver we stepped into the car.

"Yeah," I sighed, looking out the window.

Wally pouted, leaning over to gauge my facial expression, "You don't seem excited."

"Oh, I am. Sorry. I just... this has all be so much fun and I don't want to leave it," I spoke truthfully. I wasn't just talking about the trip, I was talking about every second since I'd first laid eyes on Wally.

"Well, we'll have to make this last stop special," Wally smiling, chuckling nervously.

The car pulled up to the hotel, and we thanked our driver. We grabbed our bags and walked through the wide double doors.

"(L/n) and West," I told the desk clerk. She typed our names into her computer before handing each of us a key.

"Second floor, fifth room down," she instructed cheerily.

We stepped into the elevator and stood in silence. It was shocking, considering Wally had always been the chatty cathy of the team and there was so much to talk about.

Ding.

The doors opened, and we raced each other down the hallway, trying to trip each other - with and without powers- along the way. I flicked my wrist and shadows wrapped around Wally's ankles, locking him in place.

"Hey!" He yelled in offense, struggling to move.

"I win," I smirked, swiping my key card. I pushed open the door and left it open for Wally.

By the time Wally rushed into the room I had unpacked everything I needed to. Hanging the bag- not the money one- Bruce gave me in the closet, I remembered this was where I was supposed to use whatever was inside. On the couch was two pieces of paper with a schedule. Bruce had planned out our last day for us.

"Looks like we're going to the London Eye tonight!" I yelled to Wally. He speeded over, taking the paper I wasn't holding.

"Perfect," he sped off to his room and came back, "Let's go right now! We don't know how busy it'll be."

"Well, the itinerary says dinner before, and considering the person who made this schedule is sponsoring our trip... Let's eat some dinner first!"

~*~

"I want to move here, that was the best food I've ever had," Wally sighed in content in the back of our taxi.

"You'd miss the pasta place in Central City too much," I waved my hand dismissively, "Now we go on a giant ferris wheel."

"So you're fine with them and not planes?"

"Planes are metal death traps. Ferris wheels are nice and romantic," I argued as the car pulled up to the London Eye.

"Thank you," I paid the driver and stepped out of the car, immediately spotting the London Eye. It was hard to miss.

We did what we had to before we could get into a car on the wheel. I sat across from Wally, bouncing with excitement. When it moved I reached out and shook Wally's arm rapidly.

We slowly moved towards the top, the wheel being slower than I thought it would be, but it made it easier for me to prepare myself to cross another thing off of my list. We stopped right at the top, and I looked over the edge, taking in the city lights.

"Wally," I turned back to Wally, my voice determined. I could do it in English, I had to, "There's something I have to tell you and I'm just going to get it out... I love you. I know, we haven't known each other long, but you changed my life completely. You were the person to show me the real world. This isn't just some teenage thing, I know how I feel, and Wally, I love you."

"Well, that makes this easier," Wally reached into his pocket and pulled out a small box. My eyes widened and my heart stopped. He wasn't-

"Wally..."

"No, I'm not asking you to marry me, we're sixteen after all. I finished packing pretty early, so I went to talk to Bruce about giving you this promise ring. He gave me the name of the shop I stopped at in France and helped me pick one out... But I had trouble figuring out what I wanted to be engraved in the ring.

"It only took me a few minutes, because, I haven't known you for years, but, I feel different around you, I forget about my parents, and missions, and I feel happy. I've seen firsthand what your nightmares do to you. Whether you got them from your time with the villains or not. I knew what I wanted to engrave. Being a hero can be a nightmare, I'm sure it's even harder for you having to face the people who raised you. So (Y/n), I promise to stay with you through the nightmares."

Wally handed me the ring instead of slipping it onto my finger so I could read the engraving.

I promise to stay through the nightmares.

I could have sobbed. The reality of the situation was crashing over me. He couldn't stay with me through the nightmares, because I would have to leave him. But I swallowed my sadness and leaned over to give him a kiss. He couldn't know.

"Get up!" Wally screamed hitting me with a pillow.

"Ow," I groaned slowly, lifting my head up. "What are you doing?"

"It's eleven, we have a day of shopping to get to!" Wally whined, jumping off my bed.

"You're turning into a girl," I sighed, getting up and out of bed. I got dressed quickly and slipped on my promise ring on my right hands ring finger, right next to my tattoo. While Wally was in the bathroom, I kissed the promise ring.

"I'm sorry, but I'm going to break so many promises," I laughed sadly, taking a deep breath in and letting it out slowly to regulate my emotions.

Wally exited the bathroom and grabbed my hand excitedly, barely giving me time to put on shoes and grab my purse before we were out the hotel and on the streets. We didn't take a cab, instead walked along the streets to go window shopping. Wally got tons of souvenirs, seeing as how he did that for every mission.

I passed by a window and did a double take. I saw the perfect pair of boots, they would go with my countries outfit perfectly. I ran into the store, buying a pair of the boots that was a size too big so they would last as long as the dress.

We spent the rest of the day on the streets, travelling through different shopping districts. By the time night had fallen, each of us had several bags on our arms. We had no inhibitions when we saw something we wanted.

"What's on the itinerary?" I asked Wally as we reached the hotel, passing by the front desk and stepping into the elevator.

"It just says, grand ballroom, and open the bag," Wally reported, scanning over the paper.

"I know what that means," I grinned, holding up one of the bags, "There's a reason I made you buy a tux today."

~*~

I opened the bag carefully. Wally had changed and left for the ballroom seconds ago, patiently waiting for me.

I gasped when I saw what was inside, a beautiful golden dress that looked like the one from Beauty and the Beast. Elegant, just my size, and beautiful. It was perfect in every way.

Carefully putting on the dress, I did my hair and slipped on some flats before I left the room. When I was in the elevator, I got some strange looks from a family of four, but they didn't question it.

"Are you a princess? The little girl asked me, tugging on my skirt to gain my attention.

"I'm a superhero in disguise," I whispered with a secretive smile. The door opened on my floor and I waved bye to the family before strolling towards the grand ballroom.

It was easy to find to say the least, the doors were dark brown with gold swirls in them; it was perfection. I smoothed the skirt of my dress before pushing open the door and crossing the threshold.

I held back the urge to let out a gasp as I looked over the grand ballroom. It appeared they recreated Beauty and the Beast. On the ceiling was a crystal chandelier, the floor was smooth tile; the walls coated in swirling paints and gold accents. The room gave off a beautiful glow as gentle music played in the background.

"I know what the suit is for," Wally walked up to me, clad in a classic black suit, his hair was gelled back slickly. "And you really are the beauty here."

I looked down, hiding my blush with a smile. Wally lifted up a small remote, pressing a button. Tale as Old as Time played louder over a hidden speaker in the room.

"M'lady," Wally bowed, holding out his hand. I let out a laugh, curtsying before taking his hand.

He led me over to the floor, placing a hand on my waist and holding my other. I placed one of my hands on one of his shoulders. Wally took a step towards me and I followed his lead, considering Wally was incredibly clumsy it surprised me when he didn't trip.

"How are you not tripping right now?" I asked.

"Alfred showed me how to dance," he smiled awkwardly.

"Bless his soul," I shook my head as Wally twirled me. "I love this, I love you. This is my fairytale."

"I'm glad I'm your prince charming."

"Knight in shining armor," I added. "My little freckled redhead."

We instinctively went through the motions of the classic Beauty and the Beast dance. With so much free time, I had practiced it endlessly when I was young. Wally, taking lessons with Alfred, had taken to learning it incredibly well. As the last notes rang through, an employee stepped through the wide doors.

"Mr. West, Miss. (L/n), you have an arrangement on the roof."

Wally and I shared a worried look before following the employee up a short flight of stairs to the roof. The sun was setting, sending off a pink, orange glow. The employee pointed out a lantern, waiting and already lit towards the edge of the roof.

"Come on Wally," I urged, pulling him towards the lantern, I took it off of its rope, grabbing Wally's hand and guiding it towards the lantern.

"Ready?" I whispered. As an answer, Wally lifted his hand up higher, letting go before I did. As my fingers released the lantern, I smiled slightly.

As the lantern lifted to the sky, I noted how it's gentle blow blended in with the setting sun. Taking the chance I turned to Wally again, leaning up and pressing a kiss to his lips.

"What was that for?" Wally asked when I pulled away.

"Like you haven't ever wanted to kiss someone at sunset," I rolled my eyes playfully.

There was one thing left on my bucket list, dancing in the rain, something I could easily do. In a strange way, I wished I had never accomplished anything from the list, that there wasn't a reason to make the list in the first place, but it was too late for that.

~*~

Dozing on the flight, my half-conscious state was much more philosophical with my conscious one. We had left England that morning, speeding home. It was my last day of freedom, my last day with the people I loved.

Love. It was what I had found with Wally, what I lost with the villains, what I found in the team. Love, was everywhere, was everything to me, and it was all going down the drain for Klarion's endless need for chaos.

I had wanted to be loved all my life, growing up wondering why my parents didn't love me enough to keep me. Being raised by the villains gave me a substitution for my lack of blood-paternal love.

But that wasn't love, it was malice; it was want. Yet, I still denied the truth, I still denied them not loving me, because they had raised me, because I was so desperate for something that would make me feel normal, like I wasn't this parentless child raised below ground.

In time, I had learned to accept the truth of what they had done, and through that I felt love, in various ways. Tilting my head to look over at a snoring Wally, I smiled. Losing my love to protect it. Of course that was my destined end. Never happy, never sad.

"We are now landing in Happy Harbor, I hope you enjoyed your flight."

Wally snapped up, rubbing his eyes. I chuckled as he groaned tiredly, stretching.

"I didn't enjoy my flight," I groaned with a scoff, standing up from my seat and grabbing my stuff so I could get off the plane, "There was turbulence and it was raining."

"Well, at least we landed right, we're safe now?" Wally joked, nudging me.

"Yeah," I stepped off of the plane and straight into a downpour. Letting out a sigh I lifted up my hood, Wally doing the same. As I looked at him an idea popped into my head. "Wally let's dance!"

"What?" He questioned, letting go of his luggage.

"Come on!" I grabbed his hand and pulled him towards me, Wally understood where I was getting at and picked me up, spinning me around in a circle. I laughed, wrapping my arms around his shoulders.

He finally put me down, and I stumbled, the world spinning around me. He grabbed the tops of my arms to steady me. Another check.

"Ready to get to the cave?" He asked.

"How are we getting there?" I questioned, looking around for a car.

"I'm running us there," Wally grinned, picking up his suitcase and handing it to me before picking me up again.

The world blurred around me, and my stomach flipped. I closed my eyes tightly, clutching onto our luggage. Everything stopped and my stomach calmed down a bit, I let out a breath, jumping out of Wally's arms. I would never get used to travelling in super speed.

We were back at the cave, everything looking the same as it always did. I put my hand over my stomach and mouth closing my eyes again. It was so much worse than the other times, my previous nausea on the plane not helping in the slightest.

"Yeah, um, it can mess with your stomach," Wally warned with a nervous smile, "The plane probably didn't help."

"Thanks for the warning," I growled, slapping his arm and grabbing my bag.

"I had fun, thanks for dragging me along with you," Wally thanked, grabbing his bag.

"It wouldn't have been the same without you," I assured, kissing his cheek before watching him run to the zeta-tube. I waved again as the tube started up, letting out a loud sigh as Wally ran through.

I grabbed my bag, walking through the halls of the cave until I came to my room, it was Friday afternoon so M'gann and Superboy were most likely at school, giving me some time alone.

As soon as I opened my room door I was greeted by ALICE.

"Welcome back Miss. (Y/n)," she greeted, "You enjoyed your trip I hope?"

"It was loads of fun," I told her, taking off my wet shoes and throwing them to a corner of my room. "Very exciting."

I reached over to my nightstand drawer and pulled out my bucket list, putting a small check next to everything, good job me. I had managed to complete everything before I had to leave.

My league approved phone dinged, drawing my attention away from the list. I picked it up, it was a text from Wally.

Several photos from the trip were attached to the text, some of which I didn't even know were there, Wally must have had an employee take a few of them. A few were of us that we took together, three or four of just him or me, and three of us being cute in each country.

Us looking at the Temple of Artemis in Greece, us under the Eiffel Tower in Paris, and us dancing together in England.

Love you.

I smiled, saving all the pictures to my phone. Setting the phone on my nightstand I pulled some pajamas out of my drawers and changed into them. I needed a nap more than anything else. Getting under my covers, I laid back and closed my eyes, drifting off.

"I am coming," Klarion appeared in front of me, still tall, and dark, and... my father.

"No," I shook my head frantically, "Please, I want more time, please."

"Begging makes you look weak," Klarion circled me, like a predator circling their prey, "I know. I once begged that chaos would stop, that everything would be peaceful and I could live in peace, but it didn't, and it never will, so I embraced it, and so will you. this chaos, this evil, is in your blood. You can't escape me, this."

"I don't want to," I whispered, sobbing.

"You will," he grabbed my chin forcefully, "You need to face reality, this is real, and you're going to come with me, or your friends are going to die."

"My reality is a prison," I growled, yanking my chin away.

"I can give you the world," Klarion took a step back, "Why do you continue to resist this? Because the villains never cared for you? Guess what, that's the truth! Accept it and everything will be easier for you. If they never cared, then you can learn to not care about this too! You can forget about love, and leave these pathetic heroes, leave that pathetic meta-human, and we can take the world."

"The world isn't yours to take."

I shot up in bed with a gasp, rubbing my eyes. Reaching over, I checked the time on my phone. I had slept for around four hours; it was already nine. I got out of bed, walking to the kitchen and grabbing an apple and walking back to my room to get ready for bed again.

As I was getting into bed, my eye traveled over my bucket list sitting on my nightstand. Shaking my head, I grabbed my music box from next to the paper, inserting and twisting the key so the gentle music would lull me to sleep.
