I sit and stare blankly out the window as the teacher, Mr. Blake drones on and on about who-care what. I don't care what he is saying, not now, at least not while I have to live with this curse.

My name is Juliet Santiago and I am not your normal sixteen year old girl from Colorado. Though I can't say I that ever really was. I am an orphan, my parents and older brother had been killed last summer by a stranger while I had spent the summer hanging out with my two best friends who were guys, a boy named Ryan James and a boy named Haden Rayne. Ryan is the same age as me and Haden is a year older than me. The guy who killed my family is the one person I hate with all my being, more than anyone could imagine. My parents were trying to sort out a problem that had led to him and my older brother being suspended by getting into a fight earlier in the day. The guy's mom told me that for that instant in time, he had just snapped. Apparently he had pulled out a shotgun and before anyone could move he aimed it at my brother and shot, then before my parents could even blink, he turned the gun on them and pulled the trigger.

And as fate would have it, that guy, Romeo Anderson, is in every single class I have. I hate fate. And I am pretty sure that it hates me too.

I wasn't aware that Mr. Blake had called on my name again a couple times before I could bring myself out of my morbid thoughts. "I'm sorry, Mr. Blank- Blake. What were you saying, sir?" I asked cringing at what I mistakenly called him. The only reaction I received was an amused smile. "I was announcing the partner-groups and that you will be partnered with Mr. Anderson for this assignment." I stared at him, the shock draining the color from my already pale face.

"No." I said simply but fiercely. Mr. Blake raised an eyebrow at me. "Excuse me? Miss Santiago, did you just say 'no' to me and your partner?" he asked confused.

"Sir, I did not say no to my partner because I do NOT have a partner." I growled the words to him softly. The easy-going expression left his face as he said in a harsh voice "Yes. YOU, Juliet Santiago, WILL workwith Romeo Anderson and that is final."

"And I said no. So I will not work with him" I said, my voice ice-cold. I could see the way Mr. Blake's eyes widened in shock at my tone. I scoffed, grabbed my backpack from where I placed in on the floor beside my desk, stood up and walked toward the door. As I got half ways to the door, Romeo, whose desk I had no choice but to walk past, looked up at me through hair so black it was the color of ink said "what's wrong Juliet? Too much pressure by how hot I am to work with me?" and smirked. I stopped walking, and as I glared my best I-want-to-kill-you look, I said in my most ice-cold-I-hate-you voice "you know what you did you demon" and walked up to him. When I was standing directly in front of him, I pulled my arm back and shot it forward. Hard.
