Main OC: Hazel Lura
Side OC: Carter Lura, her parents

"Your father and I are taking Lucy to the healer, we may be back late so I've already made dinner," Hazel's mother said to her two older children.

"You didn't have to do that," Hazel told her, "I came back home to help, y'know."

Her mother only shook her head, "I will let you know what the healer thinks is wrong when we return, watch your brother while we're gone."

"I will," Hazel said before her mother stepped out of the house to meet her father and younger sister. "How long has Lucy really been sick for?" she asked her brother once the door was closed.

"It's been about a month," Carter told her.

She frowned slightly at hearing the answer and turned to look at her younger sibling, "And they're only just taking her to the healer now?" she questioned, "Why didn't they take her when she first got sick?"

"They did. They took her after the first week, but they wouldn't tell me what the healer said."

Hazel sighed and brushed a hand through her hair, stepping into the kitchen and taking a seat at the table, "She's only ten."

Hazel and Carter had waited at the dining table until their parents walked in around midnight, without Lucy.

Hazel turned her gaze over to them and got up, "Where's Lucy?" she asked them, stepping over.

"Lucy...won't be coming home," her mother muttered, looking down at the floor.

"Why not?"

Her father gently moved her mother aside before looking at Hazel, "The healer couldn't tell us what was wrong, he didn't know...we can't risk Lucy getting others sick, so- "

"You just left her?!" Hazel cut him off.

He let out a faint sigh, "Yes," he answered.

"What kind of parents are you?! She's your daughter!" she exclaimed.

"Hazel, they're only trying to keep everyone else safe," Carter said, stepping up beside her as he glanced at their parents.

She turned to look at her brother, "How can you defend them? They just left our ten-year old sister to die!"

Hazel glanced between the three and, before they could say anything else, ran out of the house. She quickly untied her horse's reins as her brother followed her and mounted as he spoke.

"What are you doing?" he questioned as he watched her.

"I'm going to get my sister, since I'm now her only family," she spoke coldly before turning and riding off to the healer's to find her sister.
