"Do you think Mike has a crush on me?" Jessica Stanley's voice pulled Sonnet Monet's attention, and the green eyed brunette let her lips curl into a small smile.

"You're asking me my opinion on the golden retriever?" Sonnet questioned, her voice full of mirth and barely hidden laughter, though it bubbled over when Jessica threw a handful of salted cashews in the girl's direction.

"This is serious, Sonnet!" Jessica whined, her bottom lip pushed out into a small pout, and her arms rose to cross firmly across her chest. Sonnet took a slow breath in, before she took a small sip from her water bottle.

"I think Mike is exactly like a golden retriever." Sonnet said carefully, as her gaze moved to the boy in question, who was saddled up to a girl with her feet in the water of La Push's beach. "Distracted by shiny toys."

"She's right, did you hear how excited he was when he heard Chief Swan's daughter is moving back?" Angela Weber cut in, and Sonnet offered the teen a wide grin when the Weber girl dropped a pack of whoppers into her lap. "Eric and him got so excited, it was almost ridiculous."

"Okay, but Angie! You know Eric has a crush on you." Jessica said as her hand waved in the air, and she used her free hand to grab her water bottle clumsily from it's spot on the picnic table the trio sat at. "You ask that boy to do anything and he'll do it with the biggest grin on his face."

"Yeah but we aren't dating, so it doesn't really matter." Angela's cheeks were tinged pink as she muttered the words, and Sonnet watched with a smile as Eric Yorkie turned near the surf to wave at Angela. Angela's hand lifted without a thought, and her fingers wiggled in the barest of waves. It was enough for Eric though, as Sonnet could make out his wide smile before he turned back towards the ocean.

"You should ask him to the dance." Sonnet said with a roll of her shoulders, and she ripped open the cardboard box of her candy quickly, before she offered the open box toward Jessica. "Seriously, he'd say yes to you."

"Him and Mike said they made a bet about which one the Swan girl would go with." Jessica quietly admitted, and Sonnet let out a low scoff as she tossed her head backwards. "I doubt she'll say yes! Well, hopefully she won't say yes."

"I'll go with whoever doesn't get a date." Sonnet said with another roll of her shoulders, and she cracked a piece of candy between her teeth as she let her head loll on her propped fist. It wouldn't be new of her, to attend the school dances with her friends who couldn't get a date. Sonnet honestly didn't mind it, as she sometimes found it hard to entertain a date all night.

"Or you could get a date, you know, one you could take actual couple pictures with." Angela teased lowly, and the Weber girl yelped when Sonnet's elbow dug playfully into her exposed side.

"Seriously, Sonnet! You give the best relationship advice and you haven't even been in one since summer camp during fourth grade." Jessica pointed out, and Sonnet playfully shot finger guns toward Jessica with a half-smile on her lips. "C'mon! Don't you have a crush on someone?"

"Yeah." Sonnet ducked her head slightly, and her fingers nervously raked through her salt sticky hair. "Paul Lahote? He's pretty cute. Realistically doesn't matter though, my parents would skin me alive if I dated him."

"Eh, Romeo would like him." Angela said after a small beat, and Jessica as well as Sonnet threw their heads back in laughter. "I'm serious!"

"Oh I know- that's what makes it funnier." Sonnet answered after she was able to catch her breath, before she tapped her hand against the picnic table with a grin. "Come on you guys, this is our last day of being able to swim until June- let's make the most of it, yeah?"

With that, the girls sprinted to the surf.
