alone

she's always alone
i don't know why

i see her sitting alone
outside on the steps during lunch
writing in her journal
with her teeth deep in her lower lip

like she's thinking hard
the skin between her brows crinkling
she scribbles more
writing out silent words

more and more
until the page fills
with her thoughts

i want to see inside her mind
for just a second
see if she thinks of me
see if she knows who i am.
