Gabriella was only in Camp Jaha ── newly named Arkadia ── for two days when Marcus Kane finally managed to drag her into his office.

She hasn't even managed to adjust to her life after she, Bellamy and Clarke committed a massacre in Mount Weather and since Clarke left them behind because she was too afraid to face the truth.

And don't even get her started on her not being able to find Murphy 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 and Wells has been avoiding her like the plague whenever she meant to talk to him about it while Raven, Octavia and Wick didn't know anything about where he was.

"You and I have to talk." Kane stated, leaning back in his chair and looking up at Gabriella with a serious look on his face.

"Spit it out. I have things to do." Gabriella rolled her eyes, resting her chin in the palm of her hand and giving him a bored look.

"If you're thinking about searching for that Murphy kid, don't bother." Kane told her, seeming unbothered, "He's long gone by now. You know better."

Those words caught her attention and she immediately straightened in her seat, her blood running cold, "Gone? What do you mean gone?"

"He left with Jaha." he simply responded, "They went searching for the City of Light with a few other people not even two days after you left."

"And you didn't mean to tell me that sooner?" Gabriella snapped, glaring at him in pure disbelief.

Did he really just leave? Murphy was supposed to be the 𝘰𝘯𝘦 person in this entire universe who didn't abandon her without a reason and now he has.

And for what? Jaha's stupid fantasy land?

She didn't know if she was gonna cry or laugh at this point. Or punch someone.

That was more likely. Especially with Kane looking so unbothered and looking at her as if he didn't have a care in the world.

"So what is it that you wanted to talk to me about, father?" Gabriella spat out, the word sounding like nothing but pure venom while coming out of her mouth.

Kane took a deep breath and looked her straight in the eyes, "I think it's time I be honest with you."

"Go on then. Spit it out already."

"I had a twin brother." he started, those words enough to shock Gabriella into silence, "His name was Isaac. We had to keep him a secret and your mother was my best friend. So she was the only one that knew." a fond but bitter scoff escaped his lips, "Gods, you should have seen how the two of them worked together. First he was suspicious and didn't like the idea of another kid from Alpha knowing he existed but the more time they spent together the closer they got. And eventually he became Izzy's first real relationship which of course resulted in a teenage pregnancy when she was eighteen."

Gabriella honestly didn't have any comment to cut him off with like she usually would. Her father, the man she claimed to hate, was telling her a story she has never even heard about. It was insane.

"My parents told me it would be best if we pretended the child was mine." he added, "That child was you."

Blinking in astonishment, Gabriella choked out, "So you're not my real father?"

"No." Kane shook his head, "Just your legal father."

"Why did you never tell me?"

"There was never the right time and you know that. It would just make you hate me more."

"What happened to him? Isaac?" Gabriella asked hesitantly, not knowing if she even wanted to know the answer.

"When he was almost twenty he was too old to be living under my bed so my father got the idea to send him down to Earth in one of the pods in Mecha." Kane explained, his eyes filling with grief, "He was the man famous for Suicide by Earth. My father ended up being arrested for launching the pod and Isaac didn't make it."

His words made Gabriella go completely quiet. She was staring at the table with furrowed eyebrows, lost in thought.

Why wouldn't her mom tell her?

Was that the reason Kane acted like a complete dick after her mom died? Because he didn't have to pretend he wanted her in his life anymore?

Based on the look on Kane's face when she looked up, she knew her thoughts were correct.

"I hate you, you know?" Gabriella stated firmly, ignoring how her uncle's face fell, "But right now, I hate John even more so I don't even have the energy to fight with you right now." she got to her feet, "You can still be my legal guardian or whatever, I don't care. Just, uh, change my last name to mom's maiden name, will you?"

It was something she wanted to do in years, anyway, but she had to wait until she turned eighteen.

Kane swallowed but nodded, his voice coming out dry, "Sure, whatever you want."

-

Was Gabriella really that messed up that even Murphy couldn't bear to stay and wait for her?

He didn't even leave a note! She had to find out from 𝘒𝘢𝘯𝘦 of all people.

Hell, even Bellamy said he would be with her every step of the way and Murphy couldn't even bring himself to stay long enough to see if she was alive?

Maybe that was the exact reason Gabriella found herself walking straight out of Kane's office towards Bellamy's room ── hoping he was there.

When Gabriella reached his room, she hesitated before knocking, hearing him shuffle around the room before he shouted, "I said I'm not hungry, O! Go away!"

"Not Octavia." the blonde stated, leaning against the outer door frame and waiting for him to tell her to go away.

What she didn't expect was him opening the door almost instantly. His curly hair looked like a mess and his eyes were red and puffy ── an obvious tell that he had been crying.

"What's up?" he asked, clearing his throat and leaning on the half open doors in what Gabriella guessed was supposed to be a casual manner.

Gabriella discarded everything she was going to tell him before and narrowed her eyes on his face, "Are you okay?" a scoff escaped her lips instantly, "That's a stupid question, you obviously aren't. What happened?"

"We committed a genocide like two days ago. Gods, Gabi keep up." Bellamy huffed, moving out of the way to allow Gabriella to walk in, before shutting the doors behind them.

"Right." Gabriella sighed, not even able to bring herself to be annoyed with his sarcasm and instead taking a seat at the edge of his bed and patting the empty spot next to her. Only hesitating for a second, Bellamy sat down next to her and raised a curious eyebrow.

"You're not gonna give me a pep talk are you, Artemis?"

"No." Gabriella shook her head, turning around so she was facing him, "Because I don't know what to do with myself either and I think the only way we can grieve the people we lost is together." emotion bubbled up inside her throat and she gave him a weak smile, "You're the only person that understands what I'm going through, well besides Clarke who took the cowards way out."

"So we do this together?" Bellamy repeated, raising a curious eyebrow, "How?"

"I'm not saying we have to talk about our feelings. Just, maybe a shoulder to cry on . . . or a sparring partner." Gabriella explained, a chuckle escaping both of them at the end.

"What would Murphy think?" Bellamy asked, his tone teasing and he obviously expected Gabriella to laugh or scoff like she usually would, but his eyebrows furrowed in confusion when all trace of amusement was gone from her face.

"John is gone." she responded to his quiet question, biting her bottom lip and looking down at her hands that were laid in her lap, "He left with Jaha on some stupid suicide mission to get to the City of Light or some bullshit."

Gabriella didn't even realize she finally allowed herself to cry, until Bellamy whipped a tear that rolled down her cheek and pulled her into him. One of his arms was wrapped around her shoulder and the other way streaking her hair, letting her cry into his shoulder for what felt like the hundredth time in the past week.

Neither of them were aware of the fact that there was so much more to come. They thought that they finally did the worst thing they could have possibly done and that the only thing they had to do now was mourn and find a way to heal and become the same person they once were ── or just a better person.

But they were far from wrong.

let me just say you guys aren't ready for chapter one, it's gonna have a lot of flashbacks in between the scenes so it's probably gonna be really long
