Much to Gabriella and Raven's shock, Abby answered them almost immediately, her tone coming from the other side of the radio, full of relief.

"Just hang in there." she told them, "We're sending a team to get you today."

"Are you sure about this?" Raven asked skeptically, her gaze flickering from the radiation map that told them almost the entire planet was already on fire and the radio in her hand.

"Yes." Abby responded instantly, "We need you and not just for the hundreds of things we know you can fix, but for the thousands that we haven't even thought of yet. And, Gabriella. With Octavia leading the clans now, she needs both you and Bellamy by her side. As does your father."

He's not my father. Gabriella thought to herself while staring at the metal table. Despite the path to redemption he was walking along, he still has not been her father for a very long time.

Fifteen year old Gabriella Kane would jump at the chance to rekindle her relationship with her so-called father, if the amount of times she almost got herself arrested for attention was anything to go by. But this Gabriella, the one that spent an entire year leading a bunch of criminals and turned from a selfish brat to a selfless and an even more reckless leader.

Raven managed to smile slightly as she reached to squeeze her hand, "Thank you, Abby."

"I'm just glad you're both all right."

"You will be too." Raven promised the doctor, "My brain is healing. The seizures have stopped. When I get there, we use the same procedure on you. You will be cured."

"We can talk about that when you get here." Abby sighed, "See you in a few hours."

The other side of the radio went completely dead silent at her words and Gabriella shook her head with a blank look on her face.

"I'm not sure we have a few more hours." she told her, running his fingers through her hair in a stressful manner.

Raven nodded sadly and pursed her lips thoughtfully before saying, "I know. But the least we could do is try and get to the bunker. If we die at least we die while fighting to stay alive."

Gabriella knew she had a point but she was also ninety percent sure that the two of them were going to die out of radiation in the next five to six hours or less. The only thing that gave her a tiny bit of hope was Luna's black blood that was currently running through her veins.

If it was actually working, she could still get to the bunker and somehow get them to open the doors. However Raven would still die out of radiation.

But at least one of them would get to live right?

-

Gabriella was already slowly starting to lose hope, until the lab doors opened and she looked towards the top of the stairs to see their friends standing there dressed in red radiation suits.

They all slowly took their helmets off and Raven furrowed her eyebrows at the big number of people that came, "What are you doing here?"

Bellamy gave Gabriella a small soft smile, "We're not leaving you behind." he swiftly made his way down the metal stairs and did not hesitate to wrap his arms around Gabriella's shoulders, pulling her into the warm comfort of his chest while doing so.

She wrapped her arms around his waist on instinct and nestled her face in the crook of his neck, drowning in the faint smell of rain and cinnamon that lingered on his body. She hasn't even realized just how much comfort his presence alone gave her.

"You are a fucking idiot." he muttered into her hair and pressed a kiss to the top of her head, almost like he was still trying to process the fact that she was even standing in front of him.

They haven't seen each other in barely two weeks but when the only thing you do is fight for survival, it feels like much longer.

"There's no time to go back though." she shook her head once they pulled away, a tight frown on her face once she realized just how little time they had left before the death wave hits the planet.

Clarke gave the two girls a small ghost of a smile, "We're not going back."

"Yeah." Jasper huffed in annoyance, although there was still a small glint of warmth dancing in his eyes as he followed Clarke downstairs, "We're going back to the metal box we've been trying to get out of since we were born. How ironic."

He pulled Gabriella into a short hug and then moved to do the same with Raven. Gabriella's eyes moved back to the stairs, now coming face to face with Wells who was followed by no one other than Echo.

The lack of Alina was the thing that concerned her most at the moment.

Wells must have realized her unspoken question because his face fell and he shook his head silently, his actions making Gabriella's heart sink in her stomach.

Oh.

Wordlessly, Wells brushed past her without another word and Gabriella's eyebrows shot up in surprise at the sight of Murphy standing right in front of her with Emori behind him.

Her ex boyfriend scoffed, looking slightly offended by her surprise, "Oh, don't look so surprised. It was all your best friend's crazy idea to begin with."

Raven gaped at him in disbelief, "Space. We don't have enough fuel to get down."

Harper smirked softly, "Sounds like a five year problem to me."

"You want to go to the ring?" Gabriella gaped at Bellamy, the doubt in her voice and on her face obvious, "For five years? Just the eleven of us? Away from the others who are locked in the bunker?"

His lips tugged into a coy smirk, "Seems like a shame for a good rocket to go to waste."

"How do we live?"

"They left a water reclamator there," Clarke explained, "and we know that Go-Sci has an algae farm. We just get those two things up and running and we have food and water."

Jasper's face scrunched up in distaste, "You want me to live off algae salads and recycled urine for the next five years? Maybe I should have stayed in Arkadia." In response, Gabriella and Monty gave him a simultaneous annoyed look that made his duck his head down, his mutter barely heard, "Right, no more suicide jokes."

"Algae salad is better than death." Wells deadpanned with an eye roll.

Murphy scowled in disgust, "Yeah, you say that now."

"All right. Slow down." Raven ordered, holding her hand up, "Breathing is important, too. What's the plan for oxygen?"

Monty pursed his lips, "Based on what Murphy says about the lighthouse bunker, I'm guessing ── make that praying ── there's an oxygenator there. We take it with us. You hook it up. Bob's your uncle."

Jasper gave his best friend a doubtful look before flashing a small sarcastic grin, "Great, so we're doing this based on luck, then?"

"Nothing we haven't done before." Gabriella was quick to shoot back, "In fact, it's probably what we are best at anyway."

Raven sighed and turned to look between Monty and Gabriella, "You guys are engineers. You do know there's about a thousand things wrong with that plan, right?"

Gabriella shrugged and her fellow engineer nodded, "Yes, and every one of them kills us. Of course, staying here will kill us, too, so..."

"Raven, you're the only one that knows how to fly this thing." Wells chimed in with an almost defeated look on his face, "And in all honesty, I'm fine with dying right here and now, too, if you aren't sure of yourself enough to fly the rocket. But I'm pretty sure all of you would prefer to live."

"I actually don't care either."

"Shut up, Jasper." Gabriella and Monty exclaimed at the same time, leveling the buzz-cut boy with matching glares.

Bellamy rolled his eyes and gave Raven a solemn look, "Can you do it?"

"What do I say?" Raven muttered to herself, her gaze shifting towards the screen that signaled that the death wave was dangerously close to the island and then turning to the rocket, "I say that death wave can kiss my ass."

"Good." Clarke nodded, "It's settled, then. We're going back to The Ark."

Gabriella scrunched her face up at the thought, "Oh, float me now."

-

Gabriella really wished she would have known she wasn't going to see Octavia again when they said goodbye in Polis a few weeks ago after Clarke turned ALIE off. But she also knew that it probably still wouldn't make saying goodbye to her over the radio easier.

"Five years. Can you really survive up there?"

"Gabi and Raven say we can." Bellamy responded to his sister, a strong confidence in his voice as he gave his girlfriend a knowing look, "As soon as it's safe, we'll find a way back down. We will meet again."

"I'll be waiting under the floor." Octavia said softly and Bellamy's eyes softened too at his sister's words.

"You're not that little girl anymore." when he was greeted with silence, his eyebrows furrowed, "What is it, O?"

"I'm not sure I'm up for this, Bell." Octavia admitted, the glimpse of the girl Gabriella met a year ago in the dropship camp showing through the small cracks of the warrior facade she was wearing ever since Lincoln died, "They look at me like I know what I'm doing just because I won a fight."

"They look at you like that because you saved them." Bellamy reminded her firmly, "But it won't last. Now you have to lead."

"How? I'm not a leader. It should be you or Ella── "

"Tavi, stop." Gabriella cut her off this time, "Neither of us could have won a battle against the strongest warriors from each plan and neither of us would have had the power to unite all clans like you did."

Bellamy nodded even though he knew his sister couldn't see him, "You gave people hope when there was none. You're ── you're Prometheus; stealing fire from the gods and giving it back to the human race."

A fond smile appeared on Gabriella's lips at his words, the warm feeling in her chest only increasing as the soft grin on his face grew.

Octavia's deadpan moment broke her out of her daze, "Prometheus got chained to a rock so the eagles could eat his liver."

Bellamy rolled his eyes with a fond grin on his face, "Thanks for ruining my metaphor, O."

"I love you big brother." Octavia spoke up again after a few seconds of peaceful silence, "I love both of you. I guess it takes the end of the world for me to say it."

There were obvious tears of relief gathering in Bellamy's eyes at the fact that he and his sister finally rekindled their relationship. The only problem was that they had to do it right before getting separated for five years.

"I love you, too." he responded and sniffed, but the only thing he received in response was the sound of static. He furrowed his eyebrows, "O? Hey, O? Are you there?" tears rolled down his cheeks as he tried to turn up the volume, "No, no, no. Gabi, can you fix it?"

Gabriella's bit her bottom lip harshly to keep herself from crying too at the sight, "Bellamy it's not the radio. Radiation is blocking the signal and you can't ── you can't talk to someone that is so far away."

He cursed and ran his fingers through his curls and then bowed his head in defeat, "May we meet again."

The blonde squeezed his shoulder in comfort but her touch made him widen his eyes and snap his gaze to her in realization, "You didn't get to say goodbye to your dad."

"I don't think he cares." Gabriella tried to play it off with a shrug, "I'll be fine. It's not like I care either anyway."

"But you do." Bellamy pushed, "I know you care and I know you're afraid you show it because he's probably the person that hurt you the most."

Gabriella would be lying if she said that wasn't true. Because before people like Murphy started leaving her and hurting her, Kane killed her mother and then unofficially gave her up, only to reveal he wasn't even her father years later. She knew he tried to mend their relationship but she doesn't think she could ever get too close to him.

"It doesn't matter, Bell." Gabriella shot back stubbornly, "There's nothing I can do about it even if I wanted to. I survived this long without him and I'll be fine."

Before Bellamy had a chance to argue ( something she knew he would do ), the sound of Jasper's voice yelling turned their attention to the glass doors to see him looking at them from the middle of the stairs.

"Stop making out and come help us." he ordered, "Stop trying to make us do all the work."

-

Gabriella almost winced at the sight of the video footage from the drones that showed the planet literally burning down in front of their eyes. Her eyes widened and she stiffened at the sight of the Polis tower being drowned in flames before the drone completely shut down.

"It's two hundred and ten miles from Polis to the island." Raven informed them, "According to what was our last drone, the wave is accelerating If we're not off the grounder at least twenty minutes before it hits, the electromagnetic charge in the pyroclastic cloud will shut down the rocket's avionics, meaning it won't fly. That gives us ninety minutes to run a six hour preflight check, retrieve the oxygen generator from the lighthouse, turn a cockpit designed for two into one that can carry eleven, and load the cargo hold with enough food to keep us from starting in space while we wait for the algae to bloom."

Jasper gave her a bored and unimpressed look, "I thought you said it was gonna be hard."

His scowl only deepened when Raven shook her head and stated, "That's not the hard part. Becca designed hee rocket to dock with Polaris, not the Ark." 𝘚𝘩𝘪𝘵. "That means I have to pilot it into the hangar bay on the ring."

Harper's eyebrows furrowed, "What's so hard about that?"

"That's not the hard part, either." Raven frowned, her words making Gabriella narrow her eyes at her.

"What is the hard part then?" she asked her, "Because I genuinely can't think of anything harder than that."

"Assuming we blast off in time, CO2 scrubbers on a two-person rocket won't support eleven of us."

"So we use supplemental oxygen." Clarke chimed in hopefully, her words only making Monty shake his head.

"Our tanks only hold an hour of air."

Raven nodded, "Correct. We'll have one hour to get into orbit, land in the hangar bar, and fire up the life-support system using an oxygen generator built to supply a lighthouse bachelor pad."

Murphy groaned and gave her an unamused look, "You suck at talking people into things, you know that right?"

Bellamy let out a heavy sigh and gave everyone a solemn look, "Anyone here still need to be talked into this?" when everyone nodded in response, he continued, "Good. Now we know the many ways we might die today, why don't you tell us what we have to do to live?"

Raven took a second to stare at the floor, obviously deep in thought, before she moved to the computer to set the timer for an hour and a half. After those ninety minutes, all of them were going to have to be ready to get into the rocket.

But there were eleven of them so getting all of it ready in only ninety minutes wasn't supposed to be hard. Right?

-

"So, according to Monty, it's going to take around two months before the algae farm can actually produce enough algae to feed all of us. If we properly ration the MREs we should be fine but barely." Gabriella hummed, her lips tugging into a small smirk, "If there's too many of us we can always float someone. My vote goes to Echo."

Bellamy snorted at her joke and then turned his gaze to the first floor, briefly narrowing his eyes at Wells and Clarke's quiet and serious conversation before he gave a long thoughtful look to Emori and Echo who were getting the rocket ready.

"Grounders in space, it's an oxymoron." Bellamy noted.

His words made Gabriella crack a more genuine smile, "Nerd." her face turned more serious at the sight of the matching frowns on Echo and Emori's faces, "It's their only choice. It's either die or survive." she gave him a humorous look and raised her eyebrows, "Only choice. That's also an oxymoron, by the way."

Bellamy scoffed and brushed a peace of her hair that fell out of her ponytail away from her face, "So is cold sweat." he stared at her for a couple of moments in silence and then moved his hands away from her face, "We have to have a talk about your lack of survival skills. What were you thinking? Not going back to the bunker? I had to hear it from Murphy." he let out a humorless scoff, "You really never think before putting your life at risk, do you?"

"I didn't put my life at risk, I was just choosing to stay by my best friend's side instead of leaving her alone." Gabriella shot back, crossing her arms in defense, "You would have done the same."

"Yeah, well we're not talking about me, we're talking about you." Bellamy hissed, the only reason he wasn't yelling being the fact that he didn't want half of their friends to hear their first relationship fight, "I already lost you won't, I'm not sure I would be able to let it happen again."

Gabriella's eyebrows furrowed in confusion, "What are you talking about? You never lost me."

Bellamy ran the palm of his hand over his face in frustration, refusing to meet her gaze for a reason unknown to her, "Your heart stopped, Gabi." she blinked in confusion and he realised a defeated sigh at the fact that she really was oblivious to the fact that she gives him a heart attack every time she does something characteristically reckless.

"When you were in the City of Light, Abby shot you and your fucking heart stopped." he explained, his voice growing louder despite trying his hardest to keep it from doing so, "You died in my arms! You don't understand that if you died; you wouldn't be the one that would have to deal with the pain. I would! Raven, Octavia, Wells, Jasper and everyone else who loves you would!"

"If you want me to stop trying to protect you and our friends that's never going to happen and you know it." Gabriella told him firmly and stubbornly, "Because if it would happen then I would stop being the girl you fell in love with. I'm not the type of person that's going to stand in the sidelines and watch someone I love get hurt for my own gain. Not anymore."

Taking a deep breath to calm down, Bellamy stared at her longingly and then shook his head, "You know I would love you even if you were the most selfish person in this universe." he scoffed under his breath, "I'm not the most selfless person when I'm around you either. You know damn well that I would let every single person downstairs and myself die if it meant keeping you alive."

"And as much as I love you I would probably never forgive you for putting my life above anyone else's. Especially your own." Gabriella stated, her eyes growing softer at the urgency in his voice.

"No!" both of their eyes snapped towards the rocket at the sound of Raven's angry yell and they shared a quick wide-eyed look before running down the stairs and towards it.

Wells was the one that got there the fastest, climbing inside in front of Gabriella and quickly looking at Raven from head to toe to see if she was all right. He only spoke up when he saw that there was not a single scratch on her, "What the hell happened?"

Raven groaned, "Ugh, there's not enough time. We're pushing too hard."

"What's happening?" Bellamy asked, joining Gabriella, Wells, Raven, Harper and Emori in the rocket.

"Computer." Raven called out, ignoring his question, "System check."

"Launch system . . . optimal.

Navigation system . . . optimal.

Life support system . . . assessing damage."

Raven was quick to brush it off, "It's okay. We're using supplemental, anyway."

"All life support systems are offline."

"Just wait. Two more." Raven muttered to herself while tapping her foot against the floor impatiently.

"Landing system . . . optimal."

"Comms, talk to me."

"Communication system . . . assessing damage.

All communication systems are offline."

Gabriella stiffened at the information, exchanging a concerned and slightly panicked look with Wells before they both snapped their attention back to Raven when she spoke up again.

"Recommend repair options for communication system."

Harper furrowed her eyebrows, "Who cares? There's no one to talk to, anyway."

"Quiet." Raven hissed, clearly on edge.

"Damage is beyond repair. Total system replacement required."

Gabriella's eyes widened, "Shit."

"What does that mean?" Bellamy asked while looking between the engineer and mechanic, "Talk to us, come on."

Raven turned to look at the fried boar in the rocket with a blank, almost emotionless, look on her face, "We're not going anywhere." she didn't allow them to process her words and shot up to her feet to head out of the rocket, "Computer, terminate launch sequence."

"Launch sequence terminated."

Gabriella furrowed her eyebrows, staring at Raven's retreating figure in disbelief before snapping out of her daze and quickly rushing after her.

"Raven, what the hell are you doing?"

"There's no power in the ring." she explained, "Two minutes ago, I thought it wasn't a problem because I could activate it remotely."

Clarke slowly nodded, "Over the rocket's comm system."

"So we turn the power on from the inside?" Bellamy shrugged hopefully.

"We can't get inside." Raven snapped in frustration, "That's the point. Without power, we can't even open the hangar door."

"Raven, think." Clarke pushed softly, "You've solved bigger problems than this before."

Raven scoffed in response, "Yeah, but not in fifty three minutes."

"Raven ── "

"It's over Clarke!" she cut her off loudly, "You know maybe if I still had ALIE's code eating away my brain, I could figure it out." she slumped down on the stairs beneath the rocket, "I'm not smart enough myself."

Before Gabriella could try and interfere, Wells did it instead and sat down next to the brunette, placing a hand on her shoulder.

"Raven, you're quite literally the smartest person I have ever met." he started softly, "With or without ALIE, I know you're the only one that can do this. You save our asses more times than I can count already. That all happened before we even knew ALIE existed. This isn't any different."

"It is."

"No it isn't." Wells quickly shot back, "We don't need ALIE on The Ark. We need you." Raven's eyes widened and his eyebrows furrowed, "What? Too much? I sorta thought we were pass that whole awkward post ──"

"ALIE was on The Ark." she cut him off loudly and jumped to her feet, "ALIE was on The Ark! I was right there, so close to the kill switch, but she got away by transmitting herself to the ring."

"Using the pod in the temple." Emori filled in knowingly.

"Yes!" Raven nodded in excitement, "If she can do it, so can we."

"Raven, we'll never make it back to Polis on time and the radio is dead." Clarke shook her head with a frown.

"We have something better though." Gabriella spoke up, removing her narrowed eyes from the floor to look between everyone, "There's a satellite tower on this island."

Raven's eyes lit up, "Yes!" she turned to look at Emori, Echo and Harper, "You three, back in the cockpit. Finish the restraints." she turned to Gabriella, Wells, Bellamy and Clarke next, "You four, helmets on. You're with me. Computer, resume launch sequence."

"Resuming launch sequence."

-

All five of them were in their radiation suits and followed Raven and Gabriella out of the lab to start hurrying towards the satellite tower.

"The tower is less than a mile away." Raven stated, pointing at it in the distance and then taking off her backpack, "One more time, all we have to do is plug this into the junction box at the basement of the tower." she handed Gabriella the tablet and grinned, Sat-Star-One is the name of the dish."

"Sat-Star-One?" Gabriella repeated with a raised eyebrow.

Raven nodded, "Sat-Star-One. Everything is set. Once the tablet is connected, the dish will align itself with The Ark. The graphic will flash green and that's how you know it's locked on. When it says 𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘥, you hit send and the power-up signal will turn on the lights. That's it. Are there any questions?"

"Yeah, actually." Wells narrowed her eyes, "Why are you smiling?"

"Because without the comms, it's still impossible to open the hangar bay door from inside the rocket." Gabriella deadpanned and her lips tugged into a small smile once she saw that Raven's smile was not faltering, "She gets to take a spacewalk."

Her attention was drawn to a person in a suit that matched theirs running out of the woods and her eyes widened once she realized it was Murphy.

Alone.

No trace of Monty or Jasper.

"John, where the hell are they?" she yelled while jogging up to him, allowing Bellamy to brush past him to try and help carry the machine in his hand, only to take a step back when Murphy just collapsed to the ground.

"Monty is in trouble." he gasped out, "He had to expose his hands. He passed out. Jordan refused to leave him alone. Look, if we go back now, we can get to him."

Gabriella's eyebrows shot up in surprise but there was a ghost of a smile ghosting her lips. The others were wearing matching looks of shock which made Murphy roll his eyes.

"You can be impressed with me later. We got to go."

"Aligning the dish is a one-person job." Raven chimed in, looking between the two present blondes, "Which one of you will go?"

"I'll go." Clarke stated immediately, not giving Gabriella any room to argue even if she wanted to ── she wasn't.

Raven seemed satisfied, "Good. Harper and Ella will help me with the generator. You three go."

"Wells ── "

The youngest Jaha rolled his eyes and huffed, "Clarke, if this is one of those moments where you tell me to put myself first we don't ── "

"No." Clarke cut him off, "I was just gonna say . . . hurry."

Wells blinked and stared at her for at least seven seconds ( yes, Gabriella was counting ) before he nodded, "You too." without another word, he turned on his heel to start hurried off with Bellamy and Murphy.

"Just try to not get yourselves killed!" Gabriella called after them, despite trying her hardest not to seem worried.

However, the wink and the words Bellamy responded with was enough for the nerves to disappear from her stomach.

"No promises, Bambi."

-

The sound of Jasper's urgent yelling mixed with Murphy's annoyed but equally panicked ranting made Gabriella snap her wide eyed gaze from the machine in front of her.

"Gabi, a little help, please."

"Shit." she hissed under her breath at the sight of Bellamy and Wells carrying Monty with one of his arms thrown over their shoulders with Jasper and Murphy hot on their heels and rushed to meet them at the bottom of the stairs, "What the hell even happened to him?"

Murphy let out a huff and simply responded, "Radiation."

Harper let out a gasp of relief from behind Gabriella and brushed past her to get closer to them "Thank god. Monty!"

Emori was quick to follow her movements and tackled Murphy into a hug while Harper marched up to Monty. Gabriella let out a huff and looked towards a wide eyed Jasper, her eyebrows furrowing in concern.

"Jas? You okay?"

He was quick to give her a rapid nod, "I'm fine."

"How are your hands?" Harper asked Monty, her worry making Gabriella's eyebrows shoot up in surprise, not realizing when they got so close again, "Let me see."

"No. Leave them on." Raven told her quickly, "There's no time. We'll deal with it on The Ark. It's T-minus five minutes and counting."

"Hold on." Gabriella spoke up, finally tearing her eyes away from Jasper, "Shouldn't Clarke be here by now?"

Wells' eyes widened and he turned to give her a shocked and panicked look, "Wait, Clarke isn't back yet?"

Raven shook her head but once she saw the worry on his face, she was quick to add, "By now she should be on her way." she turned to the rest and yelled, "Everybody, refill your 02 tanks and load up! Remember, we'll have an hour each. Don't turn them on until I tell you, and after that, breathe easy."

"Which means, John, Jasper; don't talk too much." Gabriella gave them a sarcastic grin and turned to fill up her tank, already knowing they were both rolling their eyes at her remark.

"Where the hell is Echo?" Wells asked with his hands on her hips and once he saw Gabriella shrug with a shake of her head, he let out an annoyed huff, "Thanks. I'll find her. Everyone strap in by the time we come back."

"Since when does Jaha Junior run around barking orders?"

-

Around ten minutes later, they were all strapped into the rocket.

Well, everyone besides Clarke and Wells. The former insisted on staying out of the rocket and waiting for Clarke to return. But she wasn't coming back; it was something Gabriella already realized.

If she was going to do it she would have already.

Still, only the broken and a little hopeful look on Wells' face was enough to keep her mouth shut for now.

Raven, on the other hand, did not seem to share the same thoughts, "Wells." she called out, "We have to go. The radiation is already affecting the avionics. It's now or never."

'I know." Wells responded weakly, allowing his gaze to linger on the door for a few more seconds before turning on his heel with his gaze glued to the floor and entering the rocket.

For the first time ever, choosing himself over Clarke Griffin.
