[#887 in Short Story- March 13, 2016]This is a story about the deep web, but it's more than that- this is a story about human beings. It's about the popular girl who stumbles into a world she never knew, the sick teenage deep web obsessive who's always craving something darker, and the seen-it-all hacker left a mess after seeing unspeakable things put to film. This is about the fallout scars and the court cases, the lost innocence and the therapy sessions. The consequences of what they saw will be permanent, and Mia Randolph, Drew Coleman, and Kendra Monroe know it. It took one video to change their lives forever. A trio of short stories about the untraceable internet.…

Fourteen year old Kacey Vargas met seventeen year old Ryder Mitchell on one of those borderline days: in the first week of September, when the sun is locked in a battle with the wind for summer's last breath. She thought he was dangerous, he thought she was beautifully innocent, and Kacey believed that the rest would be history. But soon, fall winds started to blow across their relationship and Ryder started to change. He trapped her, he suffocated her in cigarette smoke, he knocked her down like a tree in a thunderstorm. Why? Because Ryder knew that the moment she saw autumn colors, she would decide to break free from his grasp.…

Good Night Chicago

Good Night Chicago

The city of Chicago has 2.7 million people, and about a quarter of them are under the age of twenty-five. While the rest of us sleep, these kids love, play, and dream in the Windy City- because really, why does New York get all the insomnia? Some toss and turn in bed, and some party it up like your parents warned you not to. For whatever reason, some Chicagoans can never shut their eyes. It is a completely unremarkable night, 1:48 AM on April 10th, 2015, and these are their stories. A small anthology of (mostly) unrelated short stories.…

Back in middle school, Grace Archer was okay. She had a few close friends, great grades, and something that if you looked hard enough, kind of even resembled self-esteem. But after starting a private high school on a scholarship, she fell face first into an terrifyingly intense depression that threatened to swallow her whole- and to make things worse, she has no goddamn idea where it came from. She's badly bullied, and those old friends are gone now. But Grace has a plan- she's going to kill herself on her fifteenth birthday in three weeks. She's got it all planned out- there was this article she read where a guy committed suicide by drinking drain cleaner, so she'll get drunk on warm, hard booze and do that. Simple, right? Not exactly.Cover made by @MarqNorell…
