Amära's father is killed defending Rohan from Orc attacks under Theodred's leadership, while the King was . . . temporarily indisposed. With his death came also the loss of his sword and horse, further bringing their once-proud family into poverty. Amära is distraught over her father's death and particularly over the loss of his sword and the family horse -- the last connections she had of him.
