As a child who loved to escape the hell of reality, book reading was no foreigner to me. G rated Disney Princess films were out of bounds due to their pure sin content, but you know what wasn't? Books. Books co-written and autographed by Jesus. OK, no, I'm kidding, it wasn't just the Bible.See, during the 12th and 13th year of my reign over my own body, I borrowed over 20 books from the library every week and would read them in a matter of days. Most of the time, these were *adult* Christian romances that were crossed somewhere between being so cringe God probably said "you put my name in there and I'll sue you" and being *just enough* for me to get away with reading at a very young age. These stories established things in me like ✨unrealistic standards✨ and 💅having no idea what is toxic and what isn't💅 and more things that have attributed greatly to my mental illnesses as an adult. But look, they weren't all bad. So that's why I'm rereading them again, less than a decade later and ex-religious. To prove myself wrong. To prove to myself that these books are in fact, cursed. To prove to myself the only reason I read them was because Barbie was a ProMisCuoUS GiRl and Scooby Doo was about psychedelic abusers.
