The king tosses the bewildered duo into the dungeons to rot.With a magical sending, their wizard friend Ghomarck begs a meeting. Additional skullduggery is afoot in the palace. An artifact that should never have been unearthed may have taken up residence there, bringing danger to the entire kingdom.The women must meet Ghomarck and crack whatever case he's discovered, but it won't be easy. They are newly declared outlaws, they have no gear, and they are imprisoned in a dungeon cell so tiny that Séa can't stand up straight without bumping her head.The story also features the titular boots, sexy succubi, addled royalty, a dimension door, magic mouths of at least two varieties, spider webs, an improvised cudgel, gratuitous nudity, invisibility, and a capitalized Shaggy Rabbit.I do hope you enjoy this lighthearted romantic FF adventure.ONC 2023, Prompt #31. As Detective Drew Lucy typed up the report on the Waterton case the pretty ankle slipped into his line of sight. It was shaped like trouble. The chief's sixteen-year-old daughter Millie was worried about her brother, Ike, who had started to disappear some nights. The chief could fire Drew for messing with family business, but Drew reluctantly agrees to tail Ike. The trail leads to a speakeasy and the mushrooming business of organized crime during Prohibition in Chicago. Clues from the Ebony Gardens murder point to the same gang, but the gangsters can smell Drew coming, and bullets are cheap.By the time Drew enters the seductive orbit of a mink-eyed vixen addicted to risk, he's in over his head. If he isn't shot full of daylight by gangster tommy guns, he'll drown in Bianca's perfumed embrace. It's enough to make a gumshoe readjust his fedora. -----This noir flavored detective yarn is set 100 years back in time. It's a bit grittier than my usual breezy output. This story is basically clean and I did not flag it as mature. However, darker human failings (alcohol use, sexual desire, and violence) drive the plot. I don't dwell on those aspects, but it's definitely a story for grownups. Rik couldn't afford college, so he took a janitor job at a virology lab. One night, he cleaned up a broken test tube. Soon, his beard stopped growing. His Cheetos-and-donut paunch disappeared. Suddenly, when he talked, people actually listened. Sure, he could see spirits, too, and a high-ranking devil may or may not be hunting him, but mostly this was great. Then his sister caught the virus. And others. If the virus spread out of control, what would happen? An angel apocalypse?The hordes of hell's minions could not afford to have the human race turn into angels. To stem the spread of the angel virus, they invaded.Suddenly, it was up to Rik and Trixie to save the city, and themselves, and maybe the whole human race.---Complete. Still polishing.As might be inferred from the title, this story deals in a loose way with Christianity, one of the five major world religions. It is not, however a "Christian story" in the sense of illustrating actual religious experience or practice. I just thought I'd be plain about that here, so readers can decide whether to turn the page or not. This story is an urban fantasy and it is entirely fictional. Content rating: teen. Young Inspector Visser can't stand the sight of blood or death, so this case was destined to be a struggle, even before a storm hits.The death occurred in an isolated boarding house on Pluvierstraat, The Hague. Fighting nausea as he examines the body, Visser grudgingly concludes that the death is murder by poison. Which of the motley group of suspects is the killer? The blind woman? The practical jokester? The Italian ex-convict? The English bookie? The scarred railroad engineer? Or could it be the pretty piano teacher?Visser orders them all to stay inside the house as he completes his time-consuming police work. The confinement becomes real when a storm strikes, cutting electricity and telephone. Clues mount and tensions rise, and the murderer among them could kill again. The more clues Visser unravels, the closer he comes to becoming the next victim.---- I tried to channel Agatha Christie a bit. Okay, more than a bit. Dax Magraw, here. I hail from Terra, and I'm a small hairless warm-blooded biped. I'm a peacekeeper on nu Ophiuci c 1, better known as "Catworld." We had a reliable rumor that Silver Mowk and his gang planned to hit Big Ro's drinking hole tonight. I'm here to stop him. Now, don't get the idea that I'm brave or anything. The cats (the natives: furry bipedal masses of bone and muscle) terrify me, and they often rip each other to bloody shreds. Sure, they outweigh me about five-to-one, and one swipe of their claws would send me to the morgue, but I've got an ace up my sleeve: I play trombone.Music turns the Ksss (the big cats) into fuzzy puddles of adoration. It's enough to de-escalate almost any conflict.Trouble is, some cats are gaining resistance to musical tranquility. Or so I hear.It won't happen on my watch.Right?----This is a 3000-word short story.
