Nico di Angelo is a prince who has been separated from his father's kingdom and ends up getting lost while constantly being chased by monsters. He can never know peace so long as he is their target and he can't be around other people without putting them in harm's way. That is until he stumbles upon an encampment in the middle of the wilderness. The area around the small camp appears safe from monsters so he finally allows himself to relax. He is so exhausted from the harsh journey that he collapses instantly.

The occupants of the camp are a motley crew of warriors that had been displaced during the war. They had been away from camp scouting and training, when they get back they find someone passed out by the fire. Unsure of whom he is but knowing that he can't be a threat if he found his way into their camp they decide to watch over him until he awakens.

This is a story of a war torn country with a king in mourning, a missing heir and, many people displaced and in constant fear. An evil sorceress is bent on revenge and will stop at nothing to see it through. And the struggles that come with befriending someone who is the main target of anyone with a grudge against the king. But even the darkest night brings a dawn; you just have to wait long enough to see the sun rise on a new day.
