( summary )

       TO HER CLASSMATES, Selene Baudelaire was an enigma of the highest degree. Not that Hogwarts didn't have its fair share of strange characters▬seriously, Professor Quirrel was weirdly inept even before he got possessed▬but it was downright odd for a student to vanish from school grounds after some completely-under-raps incident in their dormitory, only to return several days later without a word of explanation and acting as if nothing had happened. You'd think that kind of thing would spark more than just a few whispers in the wizarding rumour mill, but Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry had other priorities to worry about: a petrifying ancient beast, to be exact.

      How the school managed to stay open after two years of putting students in harm's way ought to be a mystery in itself. Like, truly, someone owl the Education Office. Although, Selene supposed she ought to count herself lucky to slip under the radar▬well, for the most part.

      Turns out, nearly electrocuting her dorm-mates wasn't just some insignificant accident; it unearthed the unsettling fact that blood-witch magic ran through her veins. The revelation itself wasn't exactly earth-shattering▬at least, not to Selene. She'd always known she was exceptional, and this just proved it; a real one-way ticket to becoming the greatest witch of her age▬who in their right mind would complain about that?

       Besides, scorching the dormitory walls with wandless magic wasn't exactly standard fare for a thirteen-year-old witch▬pureblood or not. You'd have to be a complete fool to think there wasn't something downright peculiar about the whole situation. So, naturally, a long-forgotten, supposedly extinct lineage made perfect sense.

      And Selene would've left it at that▬truly, she would've▬if not for the way her parents visibly tensed whenever the subject came up. Like, seriously, could they be more suspicious? And then there was Dumbledore, the ever-eloquent figurehead of wisdom, who flatly refused to answer any questions that veered off the path of learning to control her newly awakened magic, dismissing blood-witches as nothing but villainous relics lost to the obsidian realm of history.

     Odd, right?

     That's the funny thing about people with secrets▬they think staying quiet keeps them safe, but it's their silence that gives them away. Because the truth is: history has, and always will be, written by the victors. Try to argue otherwise, and you'd just look quite pathetic, because the Wizarding World is crawling with secrets so dark and unsettling that the Ministry would prefer they stay buried forever. Take the crimes at Aster Dell, for example▬nobody talks about them, nobody remembers.

     Neat, isn't it? No mess, no fuss, and no blame for those who've scrubbed their hands clean.

     Villains, when painted a certain way, remain villains in the tales of heroes. Yet inconsistency plagues said tales like a rotting mould, waiting for the perfect time▬and perhaps even the perfect person▬to uncover all the lies that hide within. Because what if the only real difference between a hero and a villain is who's telling the story?

     suffice to say, i've got plans. major plans, in fact. this might be the best plot i've ever come up with so let's just pray that i can write it well <3

     harry's literally so under-appreciated in his own fandom and imo he desperately needs a love interest who isn't from slytherin or gryffindor sooooo here we are!

selene's very much a character who you'll love and hate at the same time, and i think that's what makes her so interesting to me bc even if u might disagree with the decisions she makes, u can totally see where she's coming from when u actually look at things from her perspective. i'm mainly mentioning this now bc i just know there's gonna be a bloodbath in the comments later down the line and i simply won't tolerate any out-of-pocket rudeness about it ☝️

     also, i simply can't wait to write Cedric and Selene's dynamic▬it's literally about to be the cutest friendship you've ever seen in ur whole life 🤭 and Patrick! Patrick just perfectly rounds out their trio (even if he's more of a side character at first). now with Megan, she's very much a backdoor-pilot-esque oc in this fic▬i'm basically testing the waters to see if i wanna write a Fred fic or not sooooo head empty, no thoughts, it's simply a vibe atm don't ask me any questions bc i literally have no answers😭

     also, u have no idea how excited i am to finally be able to use gifs of Lily Collins as Clary for a faceclaim sdfghjk i've practically been in a tmi brain rot for the past 6 months. and yes, Clara Sallow is related to Sebastian Sallow! i simply HAD to make this all connect back to the main man himself <3
