I groaned as I woke up and saw I was in medical unit.

I carefully sat up, but immediately felt dizzy and hands held me.

I looked and saw it was Kendra. She had gauze on her head.

“Hey,” she said cautiously.

“What happened?” I said in a raspy voice that hurt when I spoke.

“Ssshhh, its okay. Your ex came and tried to kill you. That Radke inmate broke his jaw and bashed his face a bit to get him off you, but it took 7 CO’s to pin him,” she said.

I looked up worriedly. “Was there anyone else hurt?”

“Fernandez had a bruise on his stomach and Rodriguez had a black eye, but that’s it. You took more damage than anyone else though,” she said, holding up a mirror.

I took and looked, gasping at the awful purple finger shaped bruises forming on my neck, some even turning blue.

“What about Radke?” I asked.

“They have him in isolation. Even though he saved you, he still broke rules by not getting on the ground during drill and assaulting a civilian,” she said.

“But he saved my life,” I coughed.

“I know, but everyone’s deciding,” she said.

I sighed and laid back.

“Maybe I shouldn’t have joined the force. I endangered CO’s and keep getting hurt,” I said.

“Hey, don’t say that. First time was normal and you weren’t the only one knocked out, second wasn’t even on prison grounds, and this time, well, nobody even knew or could stop him,” she said. “He’ll be in jail once he leaves the hospital, but not at High Desert State Prison.”

I sigh and nodded.

“I’m taking you home so you can rest more later,” she said.

“Okay,” I said and she handed me some ice for my throat.

After my rest, I’ll see Ronnie.
