The village was small, yet lively. There were many people, all here selling and buying things. Cows were being crowded in small pens, young horses being pushed through the hoards of potential buyers. Hawk and I were calmly walked through people, and many admired us. Hawk isn't for sale, but I am. They wouldn't risk selling the best stallion (locally) for a mare who wouldn't breed. We were taken over to a small tree, we were tied up and fed. Many, many people came over. After a long time of standing there, a small wagon came through. It was full of milk, meats and vegetables. A man jumped down and began to set up his wagon, selling and trading things. His donkey was skinny and had thinning hair. I overheard him speaking to a customer. "Yeah, poor Ol' boy. He's so old and overworked, he doesn't put on weight. We can't afford the vet at the moment, and all our stock aren't fit for contests. I hope the heat doesn't get to him." I watch as the donkey slowly coughs. His breathing is shallow, and he can't stand up very well. He collapses. His legs had buckled underneath him, and he was too weak to stop himself. The farmer rushed over, but it was too late. Kate went over and asked if everything was alright. The farmer was upset, and worried. "Ma'am, I have a family too feed! We ain't got no money, or nothin'. I can't get this wagon back, he was my only stock capable of pullin' this thing! We only got cows and goats, a couple pigs and a sheep. We ain't got nothin'. " He sobs. "We got nothing." He mutters. "There are many horses for sale. Maybe you could buy one?" Kate whispers. "No, ma'am. I don't have enough money for even an old nag!" He says. "Maybe a bullock?" She says. "No, no, no. It's all over. My children and wife are gonna starve!" He says again, unhooking the deceased donkey from the wagon. Kate sighs, and thinks about it. "Well, we came here to sell our horse. Maybe I could cut you a deal?" She says. "Please ma'am, this isn't the time for jokes. I can't have a horse on the brink of death. I live two days away, I came because we needed the money. But I ain't got much." He mutters, taking off his hat and rubbing his head. "Oh, no, no! She's in perfect condition. She's young and healthy, and very sweet tempered." He looks at her, and Nick listens closely to the conversation. "What kind of deal?" He asks. "Well, me and my husband, Nicholas, we own a farm not too far from here. We own three mares and a very beautiful stallion. We have plenty of money and food. If you'd be so kind as to cut me a deal on some of your food here, I'd be happy to give her to you." He looks surprised. "How much?" She smiles. "No, no. Please. You can have her for free. Come, look." She brings him over. I nicker and look at him. "This is her?" He asks, patting me. "Yes, we call her Spectrum, but you can re-name her if you wish. She's very beautiful, isn't she?" Kate says, patting me. "Yes, she's beautiful and in perfect health. Thank you so much for your kindness, I wouldn't of been able to get home." He says, shaking her hand. They go over to his wagon and she takes food. Nicholas untacks me, and walks me over to the wagon. I'm hooked up by the farmer, who I know now as, 'Sam'. He's sweet and caring, from what I've seen. I guess this is it for me. Kate says goodbye, and he whips me softly, as we take off in a trot down the road. "Wow, you really are a beautiful horse." He says. "Maybe I'll call you Beauty, but I don't know. Let's see how the kids like you..."
