We walk onto the dirt road. "C'mon, Ranger we have to gallop, are you ready?"
He nods.
We advance into a gallop, passing the old cottage hidden in the forest (Kate and Nick's house), passing the soldiers old cottage (Matthew's house) where I heard a familiar whinny. "Amazon! You have a foal?" Conda whinnies. I stop for a moment, Ranger pricking his ears. We trotted over to the gate, where Conda reached over to greet me. "Where have you been all this time?"
"I left. I'm sorry I didn't tell you. This is Ranger. He is not my son. His mother died when he was born."
Ranger reaches up to Conda, who nickers and nudges his mane.
"We must go Conda. Goodbye." As I turn to leave, I hear: "Amazon, wait!"
I canter off, but not before hearing, "I love you."
We continued. We galloped past the city, where a young prince shouted out to me, "It's her! The hero mare!"
Children began to crowd the streets, and their parents, too. They all shouted and cheered; all except one girl who sat on an old Clydesdale. Quake? Natalie?
I barely got a glimpse of them, but I did hear Quake.
"You did good, Kid."
Before anyone else could throw a rope around my neck, I whinnied and reared to Natalie, who turned and faced me. She didn't look herself. She was clean, and in fancy clothes. The Queen had taken her. Quake whinnied back, and I took off in a gallop again, Ranger following.
It was almost nightfall. We stopped just outside the city reign, but not close enough to be spotted. Ranger laid beside me, curling up between my back and front legs. "Ma, when will we go home?"
And suddenly I realised. I had no home.
"Go to sleep, Ranger. We have a lot of travelling to do in the morning." He rested his head on the ground and I looked up at the stars, before snuggling up to him.
