Chapter Nine

Amazon's POV

I trotted over to Quake, the Clydesdale. He smiled. “What’s on your mind?” He asks lifting his head from the grass. “Oh Quake. I think I’m gonna get shipped off to war.” I whisper. He nuzzles me. “It’s ok. A strong horse like you? Please, you’ll get out easy.” He replies. I smile. “Thanks.” I utter. We move off to the side and graze together. *A month later* I was being ridden by Natalie to the horse markets. She was crying. I stretched my neck back and nuzzled her leg. She hugged my neck. “I don’t want to lose you. Why does my dad have to be so mean?” She says sadly. I nicker in reply. We arrived at the city centre, where many horses were standing in stalls. “Wow, look girl, the King.” Natalie whispers, pointing to a rather large man with a striking resemblance. She leads me into a stall. It was claustrophobic.  A gate was shut, right on my behind. I pranced forward, in the few centimetres I had. I began to toss my head around, whinnying and screaming for help. Soon enough, the King had arrived at my stall. He looked me over. I looked him right in the eyes. “What an amazing animal.” He murmurs, running his hand over my shoulder. “Tall, strong and beautiful. But can she run? Can she carry me through battle? Can she do anything I want her too?” He asks Steve. Natalie is sitting on me, watching and listening to everything he says. I prick my ears and listen too. “Yes, she can. Take her for a ride, Sir.” Steve replied opening the gate. He yanked Natalie off me, I was reluctant, and tried my hardest not to lash out. The King threw a saddle on my back and hopped on. The bridle was forced into my mouth. It was hard and obnoxious. You try having a cold metal bit in your mouth. He kicked me and I moved into a trot, out of the tiny stall I was once held. Everyone moved out our way to watch what we could do. Or, I could do. I pushed into a gallop, running past the stalls and gleaming faces. The wind rushing in my mane, my tail whipping around behind me. It was glorious. It was what I wanted. I was having fun and even jumped a line of barrels. Then, suddenly, he yanked back on the reins and my muzzle almost hit my chest. I tossed my head and slid to a stop.  He patted my neck. “Good, I’ve found my steed.” He walked me over to Steve. “How much did you want for the mare?” He asked, slipping out of the saddle. “$400.” Steve uttered. The King laughed. “This is an amazing horse, yet I will not pay that much to a peasant like you.” The King spits. “Well, $350.” Steve continues. “No! How about I take the horse and give you an apple? Feed your family for the night.” The King spits, looking at Steve directly. “Sir, your Highness. I believe my father is making a mistake. I found this horse and therefore, she is mine. I do not want to sell her.” Natalie states. “What a beautiful little girl. Someone like you shouldn’t be living with a man like that.” The King says rubbing her cheek. “Peasant. I’ll pay $250 and take your daughter. No deal.” The King says, as one of his knights picks up Natalie. Natalie’s mother screams and pushes through the crowd. “NO! NO! Not my baby! Please!” She yells crying and falling to the King’s feet. Steve doesn’t reply, just takes the money and takes her mother with him.
