Mason led Theo and Zia down to the underground tunnels. Mason was holding a partially melted baseball bat.

"That's a pretty egotistical thing to say, don't you think? You'd never be able to find Aaron on your own. You're not smart enough," Mason repeated.

Theo was not at all amused at Mason casting aspersions on his intelligence. "So, if you found him, what were you gonna do? Beat him up with your AP Calculus book?" Theo questioned.

Mason held up the baseball bat. "I can be resourceful."

Theo rolled his eyes before smacking the bat out of Mason's hands. The bat fell to the ground with a clanging sound as Mason looked at Theo.

"Was that necessary?" Mason asked.

Instead of waiting for an answer, Mason walked past Theo so he could pick up the bat before the three made their way down the tunnel.

"Besides, Zia is pretty scary. Right, Zia?" Mason asked hopefully.

She stared at him with big eyes. "I don't know. Maybe to humans."

"Okay, so you're obviously the smart one," Theo muttered to Mason. Why are we down here? Shouldn't we be looking around the school, or somewhere with better lighting?"

Mason scoffed. "Aaron hasn't been in class in days. The last sighting of the Faceless was in the tunnels. Parrish burned the body, but, you know, none of us have ever been back down here to check."

"Why not?" Theo asked.

"Isn't it always good to double check?" Zia asked.

Mason stopped walking, indicating that a wave of fear just now reached him as he anxiously gripped the bat in his hands.

"Because we're scared. We're all scared to come back down here. You feel it, right? It's like it doesn't want us here."

Theo sighed. "That makes two of us."

"All I have to do is outrun you two," Zia said.

"I swear, you're rubbing off on her," Mason exasperated.

"We met, like, three days ago!" Theo exclaimed.

Mason continued walking forward. Theo sighed and composed himself before following after him, beckoning Zia to do the same. They walked in silence until they encountered a fork in the tunnels.

Mason sighed. "Okay - nice and bright, or dark and spooky..."

"I kind of like the nice one," Zia said.

Mason nodded. "I agree."

Zia and he started walking toward the right side of the fork, also known as the brighter and more inviting path. However, Theo grabbed the two by the shoulder to stop him.

"You're right. We need to follow our fear," Theo declared.

Theo let go of the two and started wandering through the left side of the fork. He turned around to look at a panicked Mason trying to psych himself into following him. Zia rolled her eyes and skipped to Theo.

"Hey, it was your idea," Theo called out.

"Come on, loser!" Zia shouted.

"Who even taught her that word?" Mason muttered.

He bounced on the balls of his feet for a moment, clutching his bat tightly before forcing himself to follow the insane supernatural creatures down the dark hall.

"These tunnels go on forever, and we've been down here for hours," Theo complained.

"No real news from the last time you said it twenty minutes ago," Mason retorted irritably.

Theo scoffed. "I wasn't doubting the plan twenty minutes ago."

"If you're so concerned, just go. I mean, no one's forcing you to stay here."

Theo shot Mason a look. "Yeah, and leave you and our army in charge of my survival? Don't think so."

Mason rolled his eyes, annoyed by Theo's attitude, but unsurprised by the remark. "Whatever it takes just to save your own ass and nobody else's."

Theo sighed. "I'm here, aren't I? Maybe I wanna be in the pack."

This statement offended Mason on a very deep level. He stopped walking and stared Theo in the face. The Anuk-ite's fear-inducing powers were making Mason angrier and offended than he would normally be.

"Yeah, right! You - you expect me to believe that? A pack is about trust. I mean, the first thing you'd do is figure out a way to kill all of us. And it doesn't matter who forgets. I won't."

Mason's fear, paranoia, and distrust grew stronger. Theo noticed that Mason's hand is clutching the handle of Stiles's baseball bat so hard that the grip croaked under the pressure and his wrist began to tremble.

"I saw Scott's mom. I saw what you did. And as much as I'm terrified of what's down here, I'm way more terrified of turning my back on you!" Mason shouted.

Theo was hurt by Mason's words and was surprised to see that his hands are shaking significantly. Mason watched as Theo clenched his hand into a fist, but became concerned when his golden eyes and fangs come out with a growl. Mason assumed that Theo planned to attack him, but instead, Theo's true intention was to tackle Mason and get him out of the way before Aaron appeared out of nowhere to attack Mason with his own aluminum baseball bat. Theo and Mason fell onto the ground of the tunnels. Aaron prepared to swing at them again. Zia grabbed the aluminum bat with her hand. Her eyes widened. She knew she was a mermaid, but she didn't think she had the strength to do that.

The two continued to fight as Theo took Mason somewhere else. There were times where Zia was tackled to the ground, and Aaron had a sharp dagger in his hands, ready to take a chunk of her flesh off. But she wouldn't let that happen. If he had her flesh, he would be twice as powerful. This was one of those times. Zia held Aaron's wrists away from her. His bat was lying on the ground, far away from them. She was struggling to get him away from a chunk of her flesh. Zia kicked him off and started running away.

Theo knelt in front of where Mason was sitting on the ground. Theo saw Zia running as fast as she could, toward them with Aaron running after her. Theo got up to his feet to get into a defensive stance.

"Theo... Hey, Theo! Theo, don't fight him! It's what he wants!" Mason warned.

Aaron's fear-inducing powers caused Theo to ignore Mason and flick his claws out. Theo roared as loud as he could. Zia ran to Theo and slid underneath his open legs. Theo charged for Aaron, but blocked several of Theo's blows before grabbing him by the wrists and stabbing himself in the abdomen with Theo's own clawed hands, then threw him back. Zia got up and caught Theo, the two flying back to the ground with groans. Wounds inflicted by Theo on Aaron would appear on Quinn's body. She screamed in pain. Aaron heard her scream and ran off toward her.

Meanwhile, Theo groaned as he laid on his back on the wet floor.

"Get your fat ass off me," Zia muttered from underneath him.

Mason, in a surprising act of kindness, crawled over to him and held out his hand, so that Theo could use it to pull himself into a seated position. Then, he helped Zia up. The three sat shoulder-to-shoulder, leaning against the wall to catch their breath.
