Cheyenne

"Sigh? Why do I have to say sigh?" Cheyenne heard Sammie demand from Lorilei, who giggled in return. Cheyenne smiled to herself, clutching her notepad and pencils close, hearing them argue while she was on her way to the lake for some peaceful alone time.

Once at the lake, she began drawing the scenery in her notepad, careful not to disrupt any of it. She also caught sight of a copper-haired boy dancing in the middle of three trees.

"Up in the club, just broke up. I'm doing my own little thing. You decided to dip and now you wanna trip," he sang proudly, dancing like it was nothing new. Cheyenne just then noticed a smaller figure was next to him, a Muslim girl wearing a beige hijab and laughing happily. Cheyenne smiled to herself.

"Not tryna be indie. Not tryna be cool. Just tryna be in this. Tell me how you choose. Can you feel why you're in this? Can you feel it through? All of the windows, inside this room," the girl echoed in response.

The boy laughed, soon doubling over in a coughing fit. "Muqatil! Just breathe! Please! Don't leave me!" she sobbed. Muqatil smiled sadly, taking her hand. "It's just a dream. You know it, sister. Qaf tawil alqamat, yatakalam bisawt eal," he whispered, closing his eyes. Cheyenne blinked.

The boy was gone. The girl still stood there, her hijab now a pale brown. "Just an average girl. She always wore a smile, she was cheerful and happy for a short while. Now she's older, things are getting colder. Life's not what she thought, she wished someone had told her," the girl sobbed.

Cheyenne stepped forward. "E-excuse me? Who are you?" she stuttered out, frightened. The girl raised her head, crazy eyes looking back at her.

"My brother's death! My fault! Help!" she laughed like a maniac. Cheyenne stepped back as the hijab girl limped forward, her appearance fading into one of a twisted fate. Cheyenne turned and ran, away from the other girl's twisted look, crazy eyes and maniac smile.

"Who was she?" Cheyenne whispered to herself, now far from the lake.
