LUX BONTERI

The Jedi Master sat on a round cushion, looking out at the view of Alderaan’s many mountainsides. He was clearly in some sort of meditation, for he was in the customary Jedi position – sitting cross-legged – for such an activity.

Windu still wore his old Jedi robes, which bore the traces of some sort of slum district, and dried blood where his sleeve had been cut away. A metal hand was in the place of the real one.

The same hand that the Emperor claimed Darth Vader cut off of Mace Windu when he joined the ‘righteous side’, thought Lux. His last act as Anakin Skywalker.

“Who is it?” asked Windu, more as a courtesy than a question.

“I have some visitors for you, and I believe that they may be able to help you in this situation,” said Bail Organa.

Mace Windu got up in one fluid motion, then turned to look at them. Lux stifled a shocked cry. The Jedi Master’s dark eyes, which had once held so much power, wisdom and intelligence, were empty of any expression – totally and completely empty.

“What happened to you, Master?” asked Ahsoka tentatively.

A ghost of a smile drifted over the Jedi’s lips. “Master. Is that what they would call me? I can’t remember what they did call me. I can’t remember anything except the pain and darkness.

“I was shocked with lightening. But it was an unusual phenomenon: it was coming out of an old man’s fingertips. It hurt, and suddenly I was being thrown out a window and falling towards the ground.

“I woke up a few hours later, and realized that my arm had been cut off, so I used some credits I found in my back pocket to buy a mechanical one and have it installed. It worked well, but not as well as I imagined my old one would have. But I was grateful to be alive.

“I would go to a small bar in the Lower Levels every night and try to figure out who I was, but I just couldn’t make anything out. And I kept on getting feelings that no one else there did, like someone crying out. I asked Bail Organa for help in secret, and he came to see me and brought me here. That’s how it happened.”

Ahsoka looked up from her private musings. “So you’ve lost your memory.” Lux could only guess what was going on in her head, for her expression revealed nothing. “I can help you,” she said. “It’s going to hurt, and a lot, but it will heal you. You’ll remember who you are.”

Windu paused, reflecting this. Finally, he spoke up. “If it will allow me to remember, then do it.”

Ahsoka took a deep breath. Suddenly she just… lit up. Her irises turned a pure golden color, and she had the appearance of not being tethered to the ground by gravity’s pull. She wasn’t floating, but it looked like she was standing on nothingness.

She raised her hand, and golden electricity sprayed from her fingertips.

AHSOKA TANO

Mace Windu’s body convulsed, but he didn’t cry out. It was better, anyway – there would be no distractions during Ahsoka’s exhausting job of pulling the Dark-Side-influenced amnesia from his mind.

She kept the lightening flowing in sharp, deadly webs for as long as she dared, which was until she felt that both of them were really starting to hurt. It was the sort of pain that comes from opening an infected wound, to let the blood wash the infection out. It was healing.

Ahsoka shut off her lightening powers almost as one would turn off a light switch. Her legs toppled out from under her, and she fell to her knees.

She glanced over at Lux, who was keeping his distance. “What – Lux the Gentleman isn’t going to help a lady in distress?” He looked apprehensively at her, as he apparently was able to remember the first time she had electrocuted him. She sighed loudly. “I’m not going to shock you if you touch me. Now help me up.”

He did as she asked, and she leaned on him for balance. Meanwhile, Mace Windu, whom she had somehow managed to put down on the cushion, got up. “I remember. I remember it all,” he said. “Thank you, padawan Tano.”

“Then who are you?” asked Bail Organa, fearing the answer.

“My name is Mace Windu. I’m a Jedi Knight of the Republic.”
