Note that I'm going to be writing in third person narrative.

Valerie gets back home and tries to relax but she's still worried on how she's going to share the place where she could express herself with no hesitation. She lays her head on her pillow in thought.

"Chisom!!!" Her mum shouts abrupting her thoughts and she gets up with a deep breath to her mum's room.

"And why did it take you so long to get here?"  Her mum says.
She just sighs at the fact that she has no reason.

" I was in the bathroom" she lies in order to save herself from a lengthy sermon
Her mum stands up from the bed and gets a ring of keys from her drawer

Chisom nods hoping it's not what she's thinking.
"You will handle the warehouse" she says giving Valerie the keys.
Valerie the keys.

She freezes at a spot wondering how to reject or probably make an excuse.

"It's not a request you lazy child!, It's a command and if you don't make profit, you will see the other side of me" she throws the keys and Val catches them

"Ok Mum" she says with sadly walking  out of the room devising a plan but all of them were futile.

She took a cab to Ikeja where Chi's warehouse is located and when she stepped in , she realized how much it has grown since the last time she was here.

Wondering where her office is, she calls on one of the workers.
      "Good afternoon Miss , welcome to Chi's warehouse, the home of quality brands. Which brand are you looking for?"
The lady in a T-shirt and jeans with the warehouse logo on it says with a smile.

"I'm here to fill in for my mum, Mrs chioma" she raises her mum's ID.
And the lady starts to shake a little.

"Sorry miss, I didn't know it was you, your mum's office is two escalators up, the marbled door on the right" she gestures with her hand. And Valerie thanks her.

"You're welcome miss..."she pauses not knowing her name.
"Valerie" she says in a soft tone.

"Miss Valerie, since you are going to be taking Mrs Chi's place today, you'll need to know your job. You'll stamp all documents that are brought to the office after reading through it, you'll also assign the lunch for the workers and you will have to count and note down the profits received. Do you understand Miss? Her mum's personal assistant Mr kunle says giving every single detail.

After a long day of stamping and reading documents, assigning sandwiches and cream tea to the workers and counting the profits made, she's so exhausted and since she can't sleep on the job she looks around the office.

The office is painted in abstract form and there's a large painting of her mum taking space on the wall. The tiles are plain black giving the office a bold look and the crimson coloured desk is breathtaking with a fancy cup holder and glittery knobs. Just as she's admiring the place. The telephone rings

"Hello"
"Good afternoon Miss Valerie, there's a file in your office that is needed urgently. It's a black file" the lady at the other end of the line said.
"Okay, I'll find it now"
She opens the drawers but ends up seeing the file on the floor, then she notices a frame that catch's her eye.

She turns it over
She didn't forget she fights back the tears as she admires a heart framed picture of Connor and she feels a lot lighter at the fact that she's not the only one who is holding back on memories and for some reason she smiles.

Hmm, Valerie became a boss today
And her mum misses Chinedu
The best thing is that Valerie actually smiled.

I've never really been good with third person narrative but I hope this works out.
