The next morning the tree awoke to screaming sirens and cries. He looked down at the patch of dirt expecting something had happened to his tree-child but there was still a smooth patch of dirt.
"I told him not to go to the park alone! I told him!" A woman screamed at men in blue uniforms with a man by her side.
"Miss, we're doing everything we can. Nobody saw your boy last night. We have no leads at the moment." One officer said back to her.
"I'll kill whoever did this! I'll find them! I'll find whoever ended my little boy's life!" The man next to her screamed in rage, holding the pleading woman in his arms. The tree sighed at the human's stupid behavior.
"At least I have you my little tree." He whispered to the silent patch of dirt.
Weeks went by but besides the tree's wishes, a little tree of his own did not rise from the dirt. The lonely tree stood in the same spot with his dusty bark chipping off slowly one by one.
