𝖄ou'll find someone, they said. Someone who loves you just as much you love them, perhaps even more, and then . . . .

Then you'll live out your happily ever after.

You'll dance around the kitchen under the glazing moonlight, laughing and bickering as your favourite song plays in the background. The love of your life will catch a hold of your wrist and beg you to chance them with an impromptu dance, let them take your hand and guide you over the tiles, barefoot and smiling because happiness never felt better.

Only thing is, no one has any idea of 'they' are and there aren't remotely enough tolerable people in the world to live out your happy fantasy with.

June never cared though because as long as she had a dream and an imagination, anything could happen.

But last night, she kissed a boy she hadn't meant to kiss, enjoyed it too while it lasted and then took off crying to her room when Trevor interrupted them.

"Guys, do youβ€”oh my god?", she had heard uttered loudly in the relative quiet of the kitchen hallway, immediately springing apart from Ethan β€” which was a tad bit difficult because he'd hoisted her up on the counter and himself end up in between her legs β€” and glancing back to find a very surprised yet amused Trevor staring at them.

Ethan had laughed awkwardly and took a step back, his hand unintentionally brushing against her bare knees as it returned to his side.

And then Trevor had started grinning, horrifyingly.

"Is this like a regular thing . . .?", he'd asked, weirdly interested.

"We're drunk, fuck off", June had replied hopping down from the counter and straightening out her hair which had been tangled between Ethan's oh so soft fingers only moments before.

Trevor had squinted and opened his mouth but Ethan had spoken first.

"We still on for movie night?", he had asked June subtly clearing his throat.

June had nodded gratefully and let him walk away, eager to get away from Trevor's questioning.

Needless to say it had been a weird night which ended on an almost happy note what with Ethan and Luke showing up at her room for their planned movie night leaving her to cuddle with Luke on the bed after Ethan left in the middle of the film seriously fighting off a loud yawn.

"Is this like a regular thing?", she mumbles angrily under her breath as she tries to pry open the carton of chocolate milk, all alone in the kitchen since it's way too early for anyone with a hangover to wake up.

The cap refuses to budge, her palms growing red by the second while she tries her best to open it.

"Ow", June grunts when the side of the cap pricks her skin.

"Need some help with that?".

She squeaks quickly turning on her heels with the milk carton held up in front of her as a weapon, heart beating roughly.

He laughs taking his airpods out and makes his way over to her.

The moment her body realises she's not in danger, her heart begins beating even more erratically for a completely different reason.

She eyes his outfit consisting of his favourite Yankees cap, a hoodie and shorts with a pair of running shoes covering his feet.

He holds his hand out for the carton and she bitterly passes it.

"You went for a run?".

Jack hums twisting the cap for a couple seconds before triumphantly pulling it off.

He offers it back to her, smiling and surprisingly cheery for a man who's supposed to be in bed, hungover.

She accepts it, taking a glass off the rack and watches him do the same to fill it with water.

Up close, she can see the light sheen of the sweat at the back of his neck slowly dripping from his hairline.

She can also see the slight redness of his cheeks, caused due to exertion, and almost pokes his skin to check if he's real.

Because right now, it kinda feels like he isn't.

"Why are you staring at me like that?", he chuckles once again surprising her with his good mood.

She shakes her head, taking a sip of the chocolate milk.

"You didn't drink last night?".

He shrugs, "Not as much as the others. And besides, Sienna and I stayed up talking for a while so pretty sure that sobered me up a little. I just had to get some air today".

"Oh", June mutters trying to avoid the fact that he stayed up to talk to his girlfriend.

Late night talks. Wow.

"I did see Eddy leaving your room when we went up to bed. What's up with that?", he asks casually sipping his water.

"We just watched a movie. With Luke. Luke stayed back", she steps aside irritatedly and takes large gulps of the milk.

"Hmm. You like that?".

When she gives him a confused look, he clarifies.

"The milk, you like it?".

"Uhm, yeah . . . .? Yeah, it tastes great".

He nods absent mindedly and goes to move when she blurts out.

"You bought it, didn't you?".

Jack looks back with a tiny smile.

"Yeah. I knew you'd start craving it soon so . . . good thing I didn't let Z buy the one he wanted. It had almond milk in it, I know how much you despise almond milk".

She hates that her heart feels like a kaleidoscope of running emotions, filling her up with a sense of melting right there at his feet.

It's bittersweet to be feeling this way about such a simple gesture.

He's so . . . .

"Thank you", she says in a small voice and he smiles a little wider.

"I'm gonna go shower, you doing somethin' after this?".

All she can see is her bed and the awfully rested state she woke up in with Luke's arms wrapped around her.

"I think I'll go back to sleep".

He shrugs.

"Cool".
