chapter seven—invisible string

The police officers started to go after them and Adeline passed the room she was in.

She remembered the bow and arrows and she couldn't lose those she quickly went in and grabbed them putting it on her back cause there was a strap.

As she caught up with the others she saw police were catching up she closed the exit door behind her putting a lock she saw on it.

Grover noticed something on Percy it was from when he got stabbed.

Adeline looked closely "What is that?" Annabeth looked "It's a stinger.."

Percy was nervous was it bad or something did it have poison?

Just then they heard a bang that caused them all to turn around they saw the monster and it was big.

"And now we run again.." Adeline said as they ran out of the train through an exit they saw.

They noticed the monster wasn't chasing them anymore but they still kept walking cause they weren't gonna make it far.

As they were walking they discussed how they need to be at a safe place. Annabeth had an idea for where to go it was a sanctuary dedicated to Athena.

Annabeth led the way and they made it there were many other people there I guess you could call it a museum.

They went inside and Annabeth said how nothing can get inside no monsters or anyone.

Grover went to find out if there was another way to find out where to get new tickets for the train.

Inez was with Annabeth talking with her. Inez spoke "So, this is your mom's place? It's cool. Wonder if she's around?"

Inez made a small little joke about it and Annabeth actually laughed "Nice."

Inez never thought Annabeth would laugh at a joke she said but she looked pretty when she laughed.

"I have a gift for making jokes." Inez said.

Annabeth shook her head softly with a smile. Inez was still looking at Annabeth "It's nice that your mom has a place like this pretty lucky we happen to be in the right city for it"

"Luck or fate?" Annabeth said.

Inez didn't know how to respond to that Annabeth sighed "You probably think that it's all in my head that I tell myself my mother cares because it's easier that way"

Inez shook her head "No... I don't think that at all it's pretty nice how you think of your mother that way."

Annabeth spoke "You know this is my mother's place but a temple is a temple... Maybe you could say hi to your mother.. while we're here?"

Inez shook her head "No thanks.." she said looking down for a slight second. Annabeth turned her body to her "What could hurt?" Annabeth said.

Inez sighed "The thing with your mom I get it. It's different for you but with my mom? I don't want anything from her I mean I barely know anything about her. You and the others have done the most for me! If I have to stick with someone.."

Inez stopped her sentence. Annabeth spoke "Careful.. you almost called me your friend I bet the oracle is laughing at us" Inez laughed softly.

"Well, you are my friend." Inez said. Annabeth just nodded and smiled at her.

Adeline and Percy were just standing together and just talking from time to time.

It was some sort of pull towards her, some invisible string in other words. Adeline didn't know it.

Honestly, it was how it worked ever since she saw Percy. Though, it wasn't like Adeline was under this spell.

Percy was too.

Always stealing glances at her, anything. Everyone saw it, just not them.

Percy also noticed whenever Adeline is nervous she fidgets with her bracelet the one her aunt gave her.

For some reason, only Percy noticed that no one else Percy was gonna ask Adeline if she was okay but he had this feeling and almost fell by Adeline caught him.

"Percy! Are you okay?!" Adeline said. The others went up to him and Grover came "What happened!?"

Percy was still on the ground and Adeline helped him up "I think that stinger was poison or something"

"I have an idea! Come on" Annabeth said. Grover and Adeline helped Percy walk and they took him to a water fountain that was outside he sat in and they started throwing water at him.

Since he's the son of Poseidon it wasn't really working they were getting looks and everything.

Percy felt weak and he couldn't get up. Just then they heard a crash they turned around and saw the monster, Echidna walking beside it.

"That is our cue come on!" Inez helped Percy up and so did Grover.

They had to run inside Annabeth thought she heard a voice "Did you guys hear that?"

"Hear what?" Adeline said.

Annabeth shrugged it off and they ran inside the sanctuary they went to go to the alter Annabeth thought maybe she could ask her mom for help.

They went inside this elevator where you can sit down and they waited for the doors to close.

Percy asked, "Annabeth.. what did you hear??" Annabeth ignored but Percy kept asking.

The doors finally shut and Annabeth sighed telling them what Echidna said to her.

"she said my impertinence wounded in my mother's pride.. and that will be my doom" Annabeth said.

This was all about Medusa when they shipped her head to Olympus.

Annabeth knew her mom wasn't gonna help them when they got to the top.

They got out of the elevator and started walking up the stairs. Annabeth walked "If my mom isn't gonna help us.. we're gonna have to fight ourselves."

Inez and Grover were still helping Percy when they made it to the top there were a lot of people.

"We have to find a way to get them out of here!" Inez said holding onto Percy.

Adeline noticed a fire alarm and pulled it that caused everyone to panic and a speaker came on telling everyone to leave the nearest exit.

As people were walking out Annabeth spoke "We need a way to slow Echidna and her monster down!" Adeline thought for a bit.

"I'll do it!" She said. Inez was holding onto Percy by one side "No.. we have to stick together!?" She said.

Adeline kept them walking "Trust me! I've got this.. you guys have to get out of here! I don't care what you guys say. I'll do it"

They finally made it to the door and they were at the stairs Adeline spoke "Don't wait for me! Just keep going!" Adeline said as she was about to shut the door.

"Wait!" Percy said he took the pen out of his pocket turning it into a sword "Take this!" He said holding it out to Adeline.

Adeline was gonna grab but Percy pushed her inside with everyone else and shut the door so it was just him he was gonna fight the monster.

Adeline didn't want that she at least wanted to help "Percy no!" She could hear the monster growling.

"Oh my god... Percy! Open the door" Adeline said trying to open it but it wouldn't open.

"Uh.. he'll be okay? Right?" Inez said as she freaked out a bit. Adeline looked back at her annoyed and Inez looked down "Sorry.."

Grover was alone banging on the door "Percy please open the door!" Adeline was freaking out there was no response from Percy... did anything happen to him?
