STAYING UNDER the radar was all Betty Henderson wanted for the last three years of high school. Her name had been spread around the school a few times but it eventually was muddled in with the people she associates with and she become invisible yet again. She would rather be off in her own world, spending her time driving aimless miles in her light blue ford escort. Or maybe chain smoking out her window as she read yet another book on her massive stack of literature that resides against her left wall right next to her closet. Her life was exactly as she wanted it to be, nothing was disturbed, everything was as it should be.

The sixteen-year-old never was the one to care about popularity. Her view was it would soon fade as soon and she graduated, it was nothing like the real world. With that point of view, she had been casted out, deemed a weirdo just the same as her two sidekicks. "The creepy Byers twins" was the name that followed her friends. She wouldn't say that they lived up to the name. To her they were normal, just plain old Jonathan and Kenny. They were her best friends, their friendship was just as strong as it was when they met in middle school. Betty loved them with all her heart, her life wouldn't be complete without them. They were casted out before they could even find a place in the world, but it never affected Betty. If they were in the dumps, she was right there with them. Words and rumors hurt the brunette, but they didn't make her give up. She always pushed on, and ignored the idiots around her, waiting for the time where she could leave this shitty town behind.

While Jonathan was the weird quiet creep, his brother was deemed the "raging homo" of Hawkins High. People portrayed the Byers boy as such because of how he accidentally kissed Ricky Perclan in the sixth grade. After being friends for all of middle school and most of high school, Kenny had been outcasted because of his apparent sexuality. Kenny never liked to give out his sexuality to the public, mostly because they didn't need to know and partly because he didn't fully understand it himself. Sexuality was so confusing and he'd rather spend time with Betty who didn't give a shit about his sexuality and just loved him for him. He could come back to it, and maybe he might just find someone that could help him out. Once the rumors spread of Kenny's sexuality, Betty did not care who he liked, she loved him and would always love him. And plus she wasn't exactly straight either so she could understand his loss and confusion.

Betty had a gutted history with Nancy Wheeler, her ex-childhood best friend. As they grew up, they eventually went their separate ways, but still remained acquaintances due to the closeness of their families. Betty, despite her off-putting and careless nature, she still held some memories of them dear. But her opinion changed slightly, since she heard the Wheeler girl was now dating Hawkins High's residential dickhead Steve Harrington. The boy was not Betty's biggest fan, they often clashed in the hallways as names were soon called and middle fingers were thrown.

His shitty friends had always been absolute assholes to Jonathan and Kenny, constantly throwing around names and starting rumors. Sure, she had been called a slut and or whore by Carol Perkins and Tommy Hagan more than a few times, but the amount of shit they gave Jonathan and Kenny was absolutely ridiculous. They were the downsides of being this close to the Byers twins, but she couldn't care less. She would rather be called a thousand different names than live a life without her best friends.

Life never seemed like it would change and she didn't mind that whatsoever. Betty liked to keep to her own business and never meddle in anyone else's. That was until she caught her little brother plotting on how to stowaway a random girl that him and his friends found. And one thing or another led her to become mixed up in the supernatural forces Hawkins has to offer. With all this new information she was now dealing with a random girl with superpowers and a sudden interest from the king of Hawkins high.

They never mixed, Steve and Betty were born to clash, or so they thought. As Nancy and Jonathan were growing closer due to his brother's disappearance, Steve began branching off and seeking solitude in Betty. What he had with Nancy seemed to be dull and lack luster to how he felt when he was with Betty. It was instant for him, Betty was someone he couldn't get off his mind. The energy they had when they were together made him ache for it when they were apart. Betty never planned on breaking up a relationship, and she sure as hell didn't expect it to be Steve and Nancy's. But with the way her life was going, feelings about boys were the least of her worries. Trying to keep her and her family alive was the biggest thing on her plate.
