RESTLESS NIGHTS AFTER TORTURING DAYS.

"What happened to you girls in there?"

What a pretty sunset, Grey blinked. A ghost of a smile twitched on her lips as she stared at the horizon, her arms wrapped over top each other in order to soothe her own heartbeat. She loved the way the pinks and yellows mingled as the last of the heat basked on her cheeks.

It had been a welcome sight after that afternoon.

"Nothing that we haven't been through before," Grey admitted. "We are UA kids after all."

"Riiight," the officer hummed with slight irritation, "we gathered that from the provisional licenses and all. But I still gotta know what went down in there."

Grey blushed and nervously glanced to her classmates and friends, scattered about the parking lot and also being interrogated by police officers. The flashing lights of their cruisers glinted harshly off of the store's windows, but just like the sunset they were a welcome sight that night.

"Oh, umβ€”"

"No need to be nervous. Just tell me your side of things so we can make sure we have everything possible down. I can't ask for much besides that, not until we get in contact with your principal and teachers and all that."

She cringed and couldn't help but wonder if they knew who Hizashi was. Well, of course they did, they're the police. But he was being questioned like a regular citizen. It was a comforting sight how he waved his arms about and sweatdropped like he was the troublemaker under arrest.

"Okay, um, well..."

Elly didn't like how her arms were shaking. In her many months of training there had never been a day where she had to do what she had; her body obviously wasn't prepared for the amount of paint she had released without pause. In more ways than she could count, she and Bakugo were on equal footing when it came to their progress. She couldn't decide whether that was good or not.

"Are my arms okay?" Elly looked up to the paramedic who was a flurry checking out all her scrapes and bruises. "I use them a lot for like... drawing... or schoolwork, and--"

"Perfectly fine. Body's under stress. It'll pass."

"You sure I didn't get a concussion? I think I'm missing a few words from your sentences." Elly hissed as the quip slipped from her lips. It wasn't her fault that the EMT's sentences were so short and choppy though; it was annoying beyond hell.

Luckily, she didn't seem to notice and if she did she didn't care. Her only intent right now was to tend to the kid's traumas.

"No concussion. Here."

The silver blanket thrown over Elly was quickly shrugged off. "I don't need that. When can I talk to my friends?"

"Blanket stays on. You're in shock."

"I'm not in shock! I've been through worse." The woman before her didn't even hesitate to grip at Elly's wrist, forcing her tremors to stop.

"Skin can be hit a million times and yet it will still bruise." She released Elly after a tense moment of silence before stooping to pick up the shock blanket. "Blanket stays on."

"... Fine."

"Oh my God, I'll never walk again."

"Stop being dramatic, kid, the paramedics already cleared you."

Chayse frowned at the officer before her, the older woman's face reflecting the reds and blues from the top of the police cruiser that the UA student sat in. I am being a bit whiny, she thought, but it didn't feel right to reprimand herself but her usual dramatics.

After what happened in there... it's not like she'd think Grey or Elly were being dramatic.

Not only that but she really did feel as if she would never walk again. The kind man that had tended to her when they first arrived said that she hadn't sustained any major injuries-- not beside the pulled hamstring, but that wouldn't even take a week to recover.

So then maybe it was the stress causing her legs to feel like dead weight? Or, maybe she really was dramatic.

"Alright, kid, I think I got everything I need from you." The officer clicked her pen and stuffed her little notebook away in her breast pocket. "Now would you prefer I take you home? Or Endeavor said he would personally escort any students who needed it."

Chayse's calf twitched at the name and she let out a hiss of pain. "Endeavor?"

"Yeah, he's on his way to pick up his son. Poor kid's not gonna be able to work here anymore."

She didn't have to dwell long on her decision-making. While Endeavor had been her mentor for her class's very first internship, it wasn't an internship she enjoyed. The man freaked her out.

"Uh, I guess I'll ride with you."

Elly couldn't fall asleep no matter how much she tossed and turned. The witching hour was dawning upon her and still she found her efforts fruitless; these sleeping patterns were more common in Chayse or even Grey, so she didn't doubt for a second they also were plagued with flashes of their earlier battle.

She got her answer as her cracked iPhone vibrated from somewhere in between the mattress and a blanket.

THE MAD LADS GROUPCHAT

Chayse πŸ’€: hey
Chayse πŸ’€: so my dad isnt mad that i couldnt get the groceries lol

Grey πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ: well i would hope not??? what the heck

Hitoshi πŸ€“: why would he be mad idiot

A fond eye roll graced Elly's mocha eyes. Of course the first thing they decided to talk about after all of that was the stupid groceries.

Chayse πŸ’€: jokingggggg
Chayse πŸ’€: but i rlly couldnt tell at first if he was crying over me or the fact i came home w/o gummy bears

Izuku πŸ›: we can try again tomorrow!

Grey πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ: i dont think i wanna get outta bed tomorrow
Grey πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ: im a little beat, i havent done that many morphs in such a short amount of time like ever

Elly's fingers ghosted over the keyboard for a moment, unsure of what to say first. There was a bit too much running through her head right now but she didn't want to ruin the light atmosphere the groupchat had created.

Elly 🀘: plus the reporters might be on our ass for awhile
Elly 🀘: that cop i talked to said not to talk to any press for now

Hitoshi πŸ€“: oh yeah i saw them taking pictures the whole time

Grey πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ: aw man

Chayse πŸ’€: they prolly recognized deku's bush for hair /lh
Chayse πŸ’€: mans gets into trouble anytime he has the opportunity

Izuku πŸ›: heyyyyyyy )):
Izuku πŸ›: i swear i dont try to ):

Elly 🀘: problem child

Izuku πŸ›: ellyyyyyyyyy D':

She chuckled (though it was more of a snort... snortle, if you may). She could only imagine the look of dismay on her boyfriend's face as he stayed hunched up on his bed, cellphone casting a bright light over his face (he always had his phone shooting full brightness for some reason).

It was refreshing, knowing that they could all still joke around. She still remembered USJ clearly and how no one cracked a smile for what seemed like days. And even if they were wildly different people now, skin still bruises, so she cherished the text messages as a reminder that not every day would be dark.

The phone buzzed as another groupchat sounded off, the place where the three girls went to be away from prying eyes

THE BIG THREE GROUPCHAT

Chayse πŸ’€: and btw this gc name is unoriginal and i dont like it

Grey πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ: tell us how you rlly feel then

Elly 🀘: uh?

Chayse πŸ’€: apparently mirios stupid face already has claim to the big three title or whatever

Elly 🀘: we do it better though

Grey πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ: and can't every year have a big three
Grey πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ: he can have his big three and we can have ours

Elly 🀘: dont let katsuki know he's not in the big 3

Grey πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ: he's your dog to control not mine

Elly 🀘: ugh he wishes

Elly thought that was it. The buzzing slowed down and she was ready to be alone with herself again through the night hours, but her fingers vibrated once more.

Grey πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ: do you guys think july is alright?

She shuffled under her covers, pulling the blanket above her head to hide form the world. The question had been prevalent in her mind but she thought she had been foolish for thinking it.

Elly 🀘: So you guys saw it too?

Chayse πŸ’€: maybe a little

Grey πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ: there was definitely something up

A sigh of relief seeped through the threads of Elly's comforter, and she clenched tighter at her phone. Her best friends had come through for her once again.

Chayse πŸ’€: whatever it was she still pulled thru in the end

Elly 🀘: still, with All Might just retired i cant help but worry about other heroes

Grey πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ: thats why we're training i guess, right?
Grey πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ: to take their place

Chayse πŸ’€: god we're gonna have to train even harder now huh
Chayse πŸ’€: oh well
Chayse πŸ’€: as long as u guys stick thru it w me

Grey πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ: of course!

Elly 🀘: wouldn't dream of anything else

And as Elly drifted off to sleep that night, it truly was all she dreamed of.

i know this chapter is short and like not important but it didnt feel right to just immediately jump a few days ahead so heres the semi-immediate aftermath. the next chapter will be similar so i'll probably publish them together (the only reason i split them up was so that this book had an even amount of parts lol)

EDIT (LIKE 8 HRS AFTER PUBLISHED LOL:
I COMBINED THE TWO CHAPTERS LOLLOL MY PLANS CHANGED AGAIN THERES LIKE ONE CHAPTER AFTER THIS

also (have i talked about this before??? idk), after goingover this book to make sure i didnt miss any big plot points, i realized that i have the students living at home w their families despite the fact this takes place like after the provisional license arc. i kinda completely forgot the dorms exist so pretend they dont
