ever love someone because
they were incapable to love me
and here i found you.'

J E A L O U S -

Nightfall had settled in after a few hours, the kids, Andrea, Carol, Dale, Anthony and Izraella all stayed up in the highway by the RV.

The car ride with Maia, Glenn and T-Dog was somewhat...

Awkward.

The tension was there, it couldn't take blind to see to tell that there had been obvious tension between the man in the driver's seat and the woman in the backseat.

The car ride being quiet, Maia clutched her bow and quiver close to her, the strap of the quiver rubbing onto her shoulder.

A loud, obviously purposeful sigh came from the passenger seat, T-Dog gazed out the window in his slightly dazed state.

The painkillers were slowly but surely wearing off, it wasn't difficult to tell.

Maia opened the window on her left side and then peaked her head out ever so slightly to try and see if she could find any dangers that lay beneath the darkness of the night sky.

The soft breeze blew in her hair, a few waves flowed slightly before she ultimately sighed in a sense of relief seeing as there were no dangers.

However...

As soon as she closed the window once again T-Dog exhaled another sigh.

"What is wrong? You've been sighing loud and clear for almost the whole ride, what the fuck?" Maia sounded genuinely confused but slightly annoyed.

"No, no, I'm good. You two ain't." T-Dog shrugged and Maia peered her head forward into between the driver's seat and passenger seat and gave him a confused look.

"What do you mean?" Maia asked and T-Dog shrugged.

"If I'm being honest, I noticed how you two aren't talking as much, kinda weird, But none of my business." T-Dog spoke tiredly, putting his hands up just off his lap in a "surrender" gesture and then let them fall back into his knees.

Glenn was awfully quiet, he didn't dare say anything let alone try and glance the brunettes way.

Maia shook her head.

"We're fine, why wouldn't we be?" Maia spoke in a matter of factly tone.

Probably because she initiated a kiss and acted as if nothing happened-.

"Y'all just seem...awkward. You kiss or something?" T-Dog spoke with a sloppy grin on his face before letting out a silent chuckle.

"I'm just kidding, that's none of my business." T-Dog grinned and closed his eyes for a few seconds.

"Okay, T, I think it's time you stop yapping, it's bad for your infection, it...works up your muscles and makes you more tired and sick." Maia lied straight to his face, even giving herself a confused look at her ridiculous lie.

"What? But that's not-." Glenn spoke confusedly and Maia shushed him.

"Shut up, it's true." Maia gave him a "just go with it" look, giving him a sarcastic smile and patting T-Dogs shoulder.

"But? How do you know that?" T-Dog asked, dazed.

"Look, just go with it, rest, you're high on painkillers and you have a blood infection, who knows if i'm right." Maia ultimately sighed and mentally face palmed before leaning back into the back seat.

Glenn glanced at her through the rear view mirror as she leaned back in the seat, placing her bow and quiver to her right.

"Couple goals." T-Dog whispered and Maia rolled her eyes.

"Shut up." Glenn and Maia spoke in unison and caught each other's gaze before ripping away almost instantly.

T-Dog shrugged and closed his eyes for the rest of the ride.

Every now and then Maia checked up on him to see if he was losing control of his breathing or ultimately showing any signs of death occurring.

After another 10 to 15 minutes of driving in silence, Glenn then parks the car and opens up his door.

They stopped in front of a cozy farm house that was lit up with light on the inside.

Maia and T-Dog soon followed after, Maia taking out her backpack that laid on the floor of the car underneath the passenger seat and her bow and quiver that laid on the right seat.

Slamming the car door shut behind her she followed the two men up to the porch of the house and stopping at the front of the steps.

A smal trail being left behind.

"So do we ring the bell?" Glenn asked hesitantly, T-Dog standing there to Maia's right rocking back and forth on his heels with tired eyes.

"I mean, it looks like people live here." Glenn looked back at the lit up house.

"Ah, really? Well no goddamn shit Sherlock." Maia gasped in a sarcastic manner.

Glenn looked at the ground and blushed with slight embarrassment.

To be quite frank, he was nervous, he didn't know why however, he was.

"We're past this kind of stuff, aren't we?" T-Dog stepped forward, sweat dripping down his temple, the blanket that was draped over his shoulders slightly falling off.

Maia quickly caught it and fixed it for him as he gave her a nod as a "thank you".

"Having to be considerate." He breathed heavily and the three all walked up the stairs.

As they neared closer to the front door a woman's voice piped up causing them all to flinch slightly.

"Did you close the gate up the road when you drove in?" The woman from earlier, who rode on the horse, held her knees to her chest on a rocking chair.

"Uh, hi. Yes, we closed it. Did the latch and everything." Glenn replied.

The woman leaned forward in the rocking chair, leaning her elbows on her knees.

"Well, nice to see you again." Glenn looked down at his feet and gave the woman a small smile.

"We met before, briefly." Glenn spoke and nodded.

Maia sighed and spoke in a whisper.

"You're rambling." Maia whispered softly and tried sending the woman a small smile which she horribly failed at.

"Look, we came here to help. There anything we can do?" T-Dog groaned and noticed how the woman's gaze shifted to the cut on his arm.

"It's not a bite. I, uh...I cut myself pretty bad though" T-Dog replied to the woman's concerned gaze as she stepped forward.

"We'll have it looked at. I'll tell them you're here." The woman nodded her head.

"Uh, we have some painkillers and antibiotics. We already gave him some. If Carl needs any." Glenn explained ruffling through the bag over his shoulder and pulling out a bottle of pills.

Maia stood slightly behind the two men.

"Come on inside. I'll make you something to eat." The woman gave a small smile and T-Dog and Glenn walked in once she opened the door.

Maia stopped as she waited for them to get inside.

"Hi." Maia greeted awkwardly, she felt as if she needed to say that because she hadn't spoken the whole time they stood outside.

"Hi." The woman gave her a small smile and Maia walked in swinging her bow and quiver on her back and clutching her backpack.

The woman led Glenn, T-Dog and Maia to the room where Carl was lying unconscious.

Maia's jaw dropped slightly seeing the small pale boy in the bed, her expression filled with concern before putting a hand over her mouth ever so slightly.

She stood between the two men and Glenn took off his baseball cap before breaking the thick silence.

"Hey." He spoke softly.

"Hey." Rick replied, he held onto Carl's small hand, Rick had been giving him blood, it was an upsetting sight.

"Um, we're here, okay?" Glenn reassured.

"Thank you." Lori spoke softly, it was obvious she had been crying.

Maia didn't know what to say, she wanted to comfort them in some way, it was horrible seeing a little boy like this, let alone Carl.

"Whatever you need." T-Dog added as softly, trying to sound reassuring.

Glenn and T-Dog walked out and Maia stayed behind for a little bit longer.

"He'll be okay, I'm sure of it, he's a tough kid, I see where he gets it from." Maia gave the two a reassuring nod and Lori gave her a weak smile, she looked so drained from all the crying.

Maia took it as her cue to leave and then she did.

She stepped out of the room and the woman ushered her out.

"Merle Dixon?" A blonde woman piped up.

T-Dog was getting his cut checked out.

"Is that your friend with the antibiotics?" The woman asked.

"No, ma'am. Merle's no longer with us." Glenn spoke up calmly.

"Daryl gave us those, his brother." Glenn leaned on the door frame close to Maia who leaned on the wall with her head tilted up to the ceiling.

"Not sure I'd call him a friend." T-Dog spoke in a strained voice as the woman stitched up his wound.

"Well he is today, This doxycycline might have just saved your life." The blonde woman replied.

"You know what Merle was taking it for?" The blonde woman asked Glenn, seeing as Maia wasn't exactly paying attention, slowly nodding off as she stood and leaned against the wall.

"Clap?" Glenn replied and Maia looked at him with a look that said "really?".

"Um...Venereal Disease." Glenn swallowed a lump in his throat.

"That's what Daryl said."

"I'd say Merle Dixon's clap was the best thing to ever happen to you." The blonde woman replied and the short haired brunette who they still didn't know the name of glanced at Glenn.

"Look, I'm really trying not to think about that." T-Dog whimpered in pain and Maia watched as Glenn walked out of the room, the short haired brunette following his every move as well.

Maia felt an unfamiliar feeling rise in her chest as she saw the short haired brunette look at Glenn, she didn't know what it was.

The blonde woman who they knew as Patricia had left the room and soon after the short haired brunette followed in the direction Glenn walked in.

Maia had her eyes following the woman's every move with a stern stare.

She bit the inside of her cheek as she watched the two women walk out, she exhaled a sigh and leaned on the wall straightening her back and folding her arms across her chest.

T-Dog looked between the two, specifically Maia who had what looked like a slight glare on her face.

T-Dog raised his eyebrows at the expression and Maia glanced down at him.

"What?" She asked with a now slightly confused expression.

"What's with the face?" T-Dog asked her, pointing to her.

"What are you talking about?" Maia shook her head and adjusted her arms across her chest.

"God damn if looks could kill." T-Dog shook his head and Maia's eyebrows raised.

"What?" She was lost at what T-Dog meant by this vague response.

"I sense jealousy." T-Dog spoke in a slight sing-song tone and Maia rolled her eyes .

"Why would I be jealous?" Maia asked defensively and T-Dog shrugged.

"Maybe you fancy Glenn, that could be it." T-Dog shrugged and Maia rolled her eyes and kicked off the wall.

"Never say the words "fancy" and "Glenn" in the same sentence ever again." Maia let her arms fall to her sides as she stepped forward.

"Hey, you're not denying it." T-Dog shrugged and Maia bit her bottom lip in an annoyed manner.

"I don't "fancy" Glenn alright? He's a guy I know from highschool so what?" Maia asked him with a shrug before pulling up a chair and turning it around and sitting on it backwards.

She leaned on the back of the chair and looked at T-Dog with her arms folded and legs draped over either side of the chair.

"A guy from highschool that you're in love with, same thing." T-Dog shrugged and Maia hit his arm.

"I am not in love okay, he's my friend." Maia replied flatly and T-Dog jerked his arm back after she hit him.

"A friend that you like." T-Dog shrugged.

"I don't like him, and if you do not drop it I will rip your stitches out, stitch by stitch." Maia threatened and T-Dog chuckled.

"Someone's feeling aggressive and defensive." T-Dog piped up and caused Maia to flick his forehead.

"Shut up, I will not be sharing my marijuana with you." Maia spoke softer now as she mentioned the marijuana the kids found.

"It's not your marijuan-." T-Dog was cut off by Maia leaned forward and laid her head on her arms that were on the back of the chair.

"It is now, they gave it to me, not you." Maia smiled sarcastically and T-Dog rolled his eyes.

"You have to share, sharing is caring." T-Dog piped up with a tired chuckle.

"Who said I was caring?" Maia tried to hide a small grin before the two laughed softly.

Maia found herself a new friend.

————————

Glenn came inside after a while to Maia and T-Dog chuckling about something random.

It was sweet seeing her smile, his gaze was almost constantly on Maia.

He couldn't help but allow his mind to go back to their kiss back at the CDC.

He didn't know if she even remembered it, she was drunk after all.

He spoke to the short-haired brunette outside, he was praying for his friends.

They needed help, he may have not believed in God but it was worth a try.

He prayed for his sister to keep her safe, for Carl, so he's okay, for Sophia in hopes she's safe and that they'll find her soon.

He may have snuck in a prayer about Maia finally liking him back but that was a long shot...

Hershel, the elderly man, had decided to operate on Carl without a respirator.

It was a long shot but as soon as they all heard a car park outside they all ran towards the door.

"Carl?" Shane's raspy voice echoed from the car as he walked towards the house in a hurry.

"There's still a chance." Rick replied as he walked forward with Lori holding his arm.

Hershel, the elderly man took the bags off of Shane's shoulder and into his grasp before glancing around seeing as someone was missing.

"Otis?" Hershel asked softly.

The elderly man was hoping to hear good news but none would avail.

Silence filled the atmosphere, the others stood on the porch awaiting the news from Shane.

"No." He whispered.

You could see the short-haired brunette, who they now knew as Maggie, have tears filling her eyes.

The elderly man looked around before speaking again.

"We say nothing to Patricia. Not till after. I need her." Hershel rushed inside towards where Carl was going to be operated on.

Maia watched the sad scene unfold as Maggie was trying hard not to breakdown, not sure how to break the news.

She stepped forward not knowing what to do but attempted to give the woman comfort by placing a comforting hand on her lower back.

Maggie stared in front of her letting out a soft sob, closing her eyes.

Lori gave Maia a nod and Lori started comforting Maggie as well.

Maia took that as her cue to leave and she walked inside the house again.

———————

"I've known Otis since I was a kid." Maggie spoke, trying to stifle a sob.

Glenn and Maia stood in the kitchen, listening to what Maggie had to say, she had just gotten horrible news, they couldn't blame her.

"He's run this farm since my mother died." Maggie sounded broken, the moment she stopped talking it was complete silence.

The two looked at her with somber gazes.

Maggie sniffled and Glenn walked towards the fridge, which held up small photographs of people.

"Who else?" He asked softly and Maia bit the skin off her lip, a small habit she has always had.

"Who'd you lose?" He asked Maggie, Glenn was great at comforting people, it was obvious.

He remained calm and showed that he cared, he just wanted to help.

Maia on the other hand stood there silently just providing her company, not that it made much of a difference.

She was quite literally the complete opposite of Glenn, she was terrible at comforting people, she never knew what to say or what to do in these types of situations so she just watched Maggie and Glenn's interaction.

"You told me I had to make it okay somehow." Glenn replied as Maggie looked up at him.

To Maia's evident confusion she still stayed silent trying to figure out what he was talking about.

"That's what you've been trying to do right?" He asked her, remaining calm.

"Which ones?" He spoke just above a whisper, Maia's gaze was fixed on Glenn as he spoke, she didn't know how to feel.

He was always so calm and collected and she always felt this weird feeling around him, she didn't know what it was or what it meant.

Ever since that kiss, something had changed in Maia's view.

Maggie got up and started pointing to the people in her life that she had lost, sniffling as she named them all, you could see she had tried to remain calm.

Maia bit her bottom lip, biting the skin off of it and felt uncomfortable just standing in the room now.

She had no clue what to do, she couldn't help but feel that unfamiliar feeling rise up in her chest again, she thought about what T-Dog said.

Jealousy.

She refused to believe she was jealous of Glenn and Maggie, they just met, he was just comforting her.

Why did she even care?

She discreetly walked out of the kitchen leaving the two alone, she felt even more uncomfortable doing that.

She didn't understand it.

She stood in the living room and T-Dog looked at her with a knowing look.

"Shut up." She muttered.

"I didn't say anything." T-Dog replied confusedly.

She leaned against the wall furthest from the kitchen and stayed silent.

Her arms folded across her chest and allowed her mind to wander wherever it pleased.

She zoned out, she stared at the wall as she thought of her friends, hoping they were fine.

She hoped that Carl was okay, he was only a little boy he didn't deserve to die.

The sounds of a bedroom door opening caught T-Dogs attention, Maia still staring at the wall, not paying attention to anything but what she thought.

"It's Carl." Hershel walked out of the room and Maia snapped out of her zoned out state and watched as Hershel walked outside.

Maia kicked off the wall and T-Dog stood up and walked to the kitchen calling Maggie and Glenn to come and hear the news.

They all walked outside the front door and just as Hershel walked outside Rick, Shane and Lori all stood up.

"He seems to have stabilised." Hershel shared the news with a small smile.

The two parents sighed in utter relief and smiled with tears in their eyes.

Rick stood up off the step and brought the elderly man into a warm embrace.

Lori was smiling happily, no words could explain how happy she was.

"I don't have words." Lori smiled as tears brimmed her eyes.

"I don't either. Wish I did." Hershel looked at the ground and back at Lori.

"How do I tell Patricia about Otis?" The atmosphere went silent again, Maia looked at Shane who stood by the blue truck.

Something was off, he looked really guilty.

"You go to Carl. I'll go with Hershel." Rick nodded and Hershel nodded as well before opening the front door and going inside.

Maggie followed in after and Maia was left with T-Dog and Lori outside.

Glenn followed Maggie inside, Maia tried not to let that unfamiliar feeling eat at her as she watched him follow her inside.

T-Dog sighed and looked at Maia.

"We'll smoke it when Izzy gets here." Maia spoke softly and T-Dog gave her a small grin and she gave him one in return.

After a few moments the sounds of Patricia's sobs echoed through the house.

It was heartbreaking to hear, the woman lost her husband. She couldn't even imagine what that felt like.

The blonde woman's weeps continued, the air was somber.

Rick and the others were just strangers, they had nothing to do with the family.

Maia took a step inside and sat in the living room with T-Dog, both of them just enjoying each other's company.

Maia slowly nodding off as well as T-Dog beside her.

Rick stepped into the room seeing the two slowly falling asleep on one of the couches and Glenn followed behind him.

Glenn's gaze fixed immediately on Maia, seeing as she rested her chin on her palm, her eyes closed.

Rick spoke up.

"Maia." Rick called for the woman and she woke up abruptly.

"Mhm, yeah, what?" Maia blinked a few times to wake up and she looked at Rick before yawning.

"Wanna come and see Carl?" Rick asked and Maia looked at him with a nod.

"Uh yeah." Maia stood up and pushed T-Dog to the side so he was comfortable as he was now fast asleep.

Maia followed Rick into the room having Glenn follow right behind her.

Lori had a smile on her face as she saw Maia walk in the room.

Carl was awake and he stared up at his mother with a weak smile.

"Hey bud." Maia cleared her throat as it came out a bit raspy.

"Hey, Maia." Carl smiled at the woman.

"How are you feeling?" Maia stepped closer to the bed, she couldn't help but smile knowing the boy was okay.

"My side hurts." Carl sighed and Maia chuckled softly.

"No crap sherlock." Maia spoke sarcastically and Carl smiled.

"Don't laugh, it'll just hurt more. You're a tough little dude aren't you? Getting shot and taking it like a champ? I'm impressed." Maia spoke with a smile and Carl smiled wider now.

"Thanks." Carl smiled.

"Have you ever gotten shot?" He asked Maia who thought for a second.

"Yeah, once. Same spot as you actually." Maia spoke matter-of-factly and Carl's eyes widened.

"No way, do you have a scar?" Carl asked and Maia nodded, the parents smiled at the interaction, Glenn still staring at Maia.

"Yeah I do." Maia nodded and Carl glanced up at her as he laid on his back on the bed.

"Can I see?" Carl was curious and Maia didn't blame the kid.

"Yeah, sure." Maia stepped forward and lifted her shirt on the left side to reveal a scar just below her ribs.

"It's from my stitches." Maia pointed to the scar.

"Awesome." Carl smiled and everyone in the room chuckled.

"Glad you're okay, kid." Maia stepped forward and touched his arm in a comforting way, the parents couldn't help but smile.

Glenn's gaze lingered on Maia, Lori however, caught him in the act and she raised her eyebrows at him.

Maia was too busy paying attention to the boy laying in the bed to notice the eye contact "conversation".

Tonight has been interesting for the group to say the least.

Maia found herself a good friend and encountered her new found enemy.

Jealousy.
