I got so excited when you first asked me out. Well, you never explicitly told me it was a date, but I knew it was. I really wanted you to like me. It took you so long to ask me, but I'm not one to talk, am I?

Since that day in the spring outside the gym, Kageyama had made an effort to try and talk to you when he had the chance. He had noticed you mentioned a movie you were looking forward to. He saw this as an opportunity and decided to take a risk.

"Are you free tomorrow night?" Kageyama had asked you out of the blue. He had been tense and far beyond nervous.

"Yeah," You had said with a small shrug. "Why do you ask? Did you... want to hang out or something?"

"I was just wondering if you, um," Kageyama had stumbled over his words. "If you wanted to see that movie you've been talking about." An uncontrollable grin had broken out across your face as you had nodded enthusiastically. Kageyama had felt a wash of relief crash over him.

I was so nervous, practically panicking all day. I remember frantically looking around the lobby, so afraid and nervous you were going to stand me up or something.

You and Kageyama had met at the cinema. When you had finally found each other, he had a funny look on his face. You had wondered if that was the way he smiled. That smile was not one that could have possibly suited anybody else. It had been unnatural and you could tell he had not been used to using it. He had gotten the tickets and had awkwardly given you yours.

You even bought me my favorite candy. I didn't expect you to remember something like that. But, if I'm being honest, I thought you were sweeter.

When the lights had dimmed, you were already settled into your seats. Though you had been looking forward to seeing that film, your brain had been unable to focus on anything besides who had been sitting next to you. Your heart had been racing. Swift little flickers of something ineffable had been present in your stomach; he had given you butterflies. You had thought those butterflies couldn't flap their tiny wings any faster, but then the unthinkable happened.

I'm pretty sure I almost exploded when your hand touched mine that night.

In the dark of the movie theater, you and Kageyama had been holding hands. The boy went rigid when your fingers had intertwined with his. He had never held hands with someone before. What if his hands had been too sweaty? What if you had thought the calluses on his hands to be uncomfortable or gross? Though Kageyama's thoughts had raced, a rare occurrence for him, one thought stuck out: your hand had fit perfectly in his. He had not wanted to let go.

Getting to hold your hand for the first time felt like a scene from, ironically, a movie. As much as I liked it, I liked what happened after you walked me home a bit more.

Crickets had been chirping and the moon and stars had accompanied them. Kageyama had insisted it hadn't been safe for you to walk home by yourself at such an hour. So he had been right next to you as you discussed the film you had just viewed. Kageyama hadn't given much deep insight, but he had enjoyed listening to you talk. Sadly, your doorstep was just ahead.

"I had a lot of fun tonight," You had told Kageyama. "I hope we can do something like this again."

"Yes!" He had blurted out perhaps a little too quickly. You smiled, telling him goodnight. He had watched as you had walked to your doorstep, only to hesitate. You had turned on your heels and swiftly rush back to Kageyama. You had placed a hand on his shoulder, and directly after, a kiss on his cheek before retreating.

I never thought I would have had the courage to do that, but somehow you brought it out of me. I'm glad I rushed back into the house, though, I didn't want you to see that stupid grin on my face.

Tobio saw you included another little memento inside this envelope too. He smiled. It was a ticket stub from your first date. Tobio almost could not believe you held on to something like this for so many years. Tobio decided he was going to keep it too.
