Kaylee

The sound of the doorbell broke the silence in the living room. I frowned, since I wasn't expecting anyone to come and my boyfriend, Ethan, was visiting his family.

I saw a man looking through the window. He was wearing a uniform with the mail logo on his shirt.

"Hello." I said opening the door. The man looked at me and grinned.

"Miss Kaylee Martin?" He asked and I nodded. "This is for you." He handed me a large envelope and I received it smiling.

"Thank you." I said confused. I hadn't received a letter in a long time. I signed a couple of papers and then the man left.

I walked back to the living room and sat on the couch, placing the envelope on the table. Who would send me a letter? I wondered, staring at the white file. The curiosity overwhelmed me and I decided to open it.

I recognized my parents' address handwritten on the outside of the paper. Every time my parents sent me a letter, I was scared it would be bad news, so with shaky hands, I took out the letter and read it.

Dear Kaylee.
We wanted to let you know that we are proud of you for working so hard. Your dedication amazes us even more everyday, and we hope you can fulfill your dreams.
That's why we have decided to help you a little bit and pay for your college tuition. We are sorry that we didn't let you know earlier so you could prepare, but we got you a place in the University of Oxford.
Please let us know when you have received this letter so we can talk about this as a family.
Take care.
-Mom and Dad.

I blinked a few times, expecting to wake up from a dream. Everything happened so fast, and this really wasn't the best way to tell me that I was going to a university in the other side of the world. I quickly dialed my mother's number on my phone.

"Hello?" I said when she answered. I was still in a state of shock, not believing anything that was happening.

"Hello darling, we have been waiting for your call since last month." She said and my eyes widened. Apparently, the letter had taken a month to arrive. I couldn't blame my parents for sending a letter, since they weren't good with technology and they probably aren't used to calling or texting. "I guess you called because of the letter, correct?"

"Y-yeah..." I replied, my voice trembling in amazement. "A-Am I going to move to Oxford?"

"Well, I don't think you're going to travel to another continent everyday to go to school." My mom joked, but I didn't laugh. I still couldn't understand how any of this was happening in one day.

"Woah. That is a lot of information to process..."

"We have one more surprise for you." I heard my dad's voice in the call. He sounded enthusiastic and happy, and I wished I could feel the same way. Obviously I was excited, but there were so many things inside my head at the moment and I couldn't believe it. "We already booked your flight!"

I stared at the floor in shock. I was leaving and that was final. It was definitely a special day.

"Wh-When am I leaving?" I asked, the words escaping my mouth involuntarily.

"Well, since the letter took a while to get there, this might be a little too fast for you, but you're leaving in 10 days."

"Okay, thank you for letting me know." I hung up and faked a smile, even though they couldn't see me. Only 10 days, and my life would change forever. Was I ready?

The University of Oxford. One of the most prestigious places to ever exist, and I was going to be studying there. Studying psychology at a really good university had been my dream for as long as I can remember. However, back in the day, I was prepared to move to another country. But things changed when I met Ethan. The most perfect man I had ever seen. His hazel eyes. His bright smile. I loved everything about him, and I couldn't imagine leaving.

And then it hit me. How was I going to tell Ethan?
