One True Heart Beats All

FOUR YEARS LATER.

Life couldn't have been any more unpredictable. It loved to throw little curveballs in your direction like some warranty to make sure you deserved this lifestyle. I've been through my fair share of curveballs throughout my life, but I couldn't make it without her.

Davina.

Her acting career has exploded since her academy award for her indie movie. Since then, there hasn't been a month where Davina wasn't filming something new. Long-distance had a way of putting a strain on most relationships, but we didn't have to worry about that. Our love had reached new lengths, no one could keep us away from each other. If we had to wait two months to see each other again, we would make it worth our wild.

Davina's black locks were pulled in a clumpy bun as she doodled on the empty canvas. Her body was being swallowed by my humongous overalls she borrowed. It's my favorite sight. Not to mention the gigantic grin plastered on her gorgeous face, stealing a breath from me whenever it appeared.

"What is that?" Davina snorted, her eyes bulging from their sockets at Lana's painting.

Lana pouted, her cheeks and ears turning red. "It's supposed to be Declan... But it looks more like a potato?"

Davina stifled her laugh by covering her mouth. "I thought you said you've been getting lessons from Ambrose."

"I have..."

Her eyebrows jumped to her hairline. "I want to see the masterpiece you used to make then..."

Lana's eyes widened in shock at her comment. She dunked her paintbrush into a container loaded with purple paint and flung it at Davina. The color landed on the entire left side of her face, ending above her waist. Davina squealed and retaliated by grabbing the whole container and pouring it over Lana.

This was my gift for letting them into my man cave?

Dropping my mug on the counter, I sprinted to the white-painted room to prevent them from ruining it. I'm regretting painting my wall plain old white, but I wouldn't have expected them to fight in here. There are five other rooms in this house, and they chose this room.

"Stop don't get any paint on my wal-." I was cut short when Lana thrust paint all over me and into my mouth.

"Ambrose!" Lana exclaimed, her teeth gritted in an awkward smile. "I was aiming for Davina! Why did you save her?"

I rubbed the paint off my face. "I wasn't trying to save her. I wanted to protect my walls, but..." My heart slightly faltered at the splotches of paint on my walls. "I let them down."

Davina smacked my ass with a hand towel. "You're such an ass! I'm more important than the walls."

A light bulb popped in my head. Smirking, I grabbed onto Davina's waist, smearing the thick paint onto her, and rubbed my face on her neck.

"Ambrose!" Davina squealed as Lana's giggles filled the room.

"That's what you get for making fun of my painting." Lana stuck her tongue out.

"Oh, come on! It's funny!" Davina snorted, her adorable pig-snorts vibrating against my body. "Bean sprout, go see it for yourself and try not to laugh."

I shrugged my shoulders, releasing Davina from my grasp. "It takes a miracle for Lana to surprise me." However, my eyes bulged at the sight of two gigantic beige splotches with the smallest brown eyes. I scratched my head. "This is supposed to be Declan?"

Lana nodded hesitantly. "I tried really hard on it! It's supposed to be his graduating gift, but you guys are making me feel less confident about it. Maybe I should give him the bunny we painted."

I patted her shoulder. "Declan will like both. Remember, he loves you, so that automatically means he loves anything you do."

Lana pouted, thumping her pointer fingers together. "He will still make fun of it. He made fun of the couple collage I created of our years together... But he has it on his wallet."

"See!" I nudged her shoulder. "It means he loves it because you made it."

Davina stepped in front of the painting, tilting her head as she created an 'L' shape with her hand. "I'm sorry. It's really not that bad. It kind of reminds me of Declan. It has his soulless eyes."

"Really?" Lana's eye gleamed with appreciation.

I bobbed my head while draping my arm over Davina's shoulders. "Just sign your little signature so Declan has an original Lana Novak piece."

Lana flapped her hands with excitement burst through the vibration. "What time is it, anyway? I'm going to need extra time to wash this paint off before Declan's graduation."

Davina peeked at the digital clock. "About to be twelve-thirty."

Lana's grassy-colored eyes widened as the pen fell from her grip. "Holy Christmas nuts! That only leaves me two hours to get ready."

Our eyes expanded as we observed teeny tiny Lana moving at the speed of light, grabbing her designer purse doused in paint. As she made her way toward the exit, she slipped on the puddle of paint, slamming her ass on the hardwood floors.

"That's definitely going to leave a bruise," Lana mumbled, her bones cracking as she leaped onto her two legs. "I'll see you guys tonight at Declan's graduation party, right?"

Davina squeezed her head between the crook of my neck. "We wouldn't miss it for the world."

Her warmth evoked the butterflies in my stomach. There wasn't a day when Davina's enchanting, sparking, aquamarine irises didn't bring me to my knees. Our love grew fonder like those pairs in the movies, truly meant to be. My attention was ripped away from Davina's beauty at the sound of the door slamming.

"I wonder how Lana is going to survive being one-hundred-thousand miles away from Declan." Davina pouted, rubbing the silver heart pendant around her neck. "The poor girl is so attached to him. She was crying when she told me. She doesn't want him to go, but also doesn't want to take this opportunity away from him."

Davina had the purest heart I've ever seen. She's truly someone who's too good to be real, but she was. Somehow, by the miracles of the Universe, I got her to give me another chance. Maybe this time I could propose correctly. Captivated by her goddess features, I placed the softest smooch on her nose.

"Lana and I share way too many similarities. It's honestly terrifying at this point." I laughed, wiping the spot of paint on her cheek.

She shivered. "What do you mean?"

I buried my face in her neck and nuzzled her skin. "Well, I don't love having to be separated for months at a time, but this was what I signed up for. You were born to be shown to the world, make memories in cinematic history, and be honored. No matter how badly I wished we could wake up together every day, I'm able to endure for your dream to come true."

Her green eyes shined at me. "You're the reason I have a big ego."

I wiggled my brows. "It's my job. I have thousand other things to bring up. Like." My hands slid down to her waist. "Your tiny waist." I glided my palms underneath her and squeezed her round ass. "An ass no idiot can refuse." I moved one hand between her legs. "And the tightest, wettest pussy on the planet."

Her breath hitched. "Don't start something you can't finish."

I laughed, throwing my head back. "We got time. The party isn't until seven."

Davina snorted. "It's going to take two hours alone to wash this paint off my hair." She rotated on her foot, cleaning the excess paint before entering the house. Running, I slipped my fingers between hers, forgetting about all the paint I was dragging in.

"D, are you happy?" I asked.

She halted. "Of course, I am bean sprout. I'm a two-time winner of the Oscars and golden globe. I'm starting in the biggest franchised movie this decade. And lastly, but certainly not the least, I have my soulmate. There isn't anything else I could ask for."

I arched a brow, rubbing the silver pendant around her neck. "Then why haven't you opened it yet?"

Confusion danced across her eyes as she glanced down at the object between my fingers. Davina didn't know, but I had Wesley give her this gift. I was still focusing on my restaurant and myself, so I couldn't fully dedicate myself to a relationship with her. But this silver heart was my way of saying I was always going to go back for her.

"Are you implying... What I think you're implying?"

I shrugged my shoulders. "Maybe."

"You told Wesley to give this to me?" Her eyebrows jerked to her hairline.

I nodded. "I did. Since I didn't have to pay as much rent anymore, I had extra money to spare when your birthday came around and I also finally sold Lana's ring. So, I brought this silver heart, carved our initials on the back of it, and begged Wes to give it to you. I made sure he said exactly what I wanted him to. Do you remember?"

Davina blinked, flipping the pedant over for the carved letters. "I do. He said when I reach the day that I'm truly happy to open this..."

Blushing slightly, I glanced away. "Should we open it?"

She bobbed her head, her trembling fingers struggling to pull it open. "Why is it so hard?" she complained, laughing as her face turned beetroot red at failing to pry it loose.

"Don't worry, I got it," I stated.

My fingers traced the outline of our letters, and the entire process of getting it done flashed through my mind. Hope bloomed in my chest like a flower. The knots in my stomach intensified as I pried it open. It loosened with a snap as my special gift tumbled out in my palm. Her lips pressed into a pout as she opened the latch, seeing nothing inside.

Confusion washed over her face. "What was in ther-."

Her gaze zoned in. Widening her eyes, she registered me on one knee with a marquise-cut diamond ring in my hand, an upgrade from the Lana ring I gave her five years ago. Her eyelids started blinking rapidly to hold back her tears.

"Ambrose..." she whimpered, her lips quivering. "Is this real?"

"Yes, baby. It is."

"Wait, really?" Her voice faltered.

"Yes, baby." My palms began to sweat.

"Right now?" Davina giggled, tears coating her eyelashes. "We're covered in paint and I look so ugly."

"That's a lie, baby," I countered, blubbering through a haze of snot and tears. "You're always beautiful to me."

"Bu-."

"Davina." I cut her off. "D, I'd made a shit ton of mistakes throughout my life and nearly lost you because of it. Being separate for months at a time drives me insane, but I cherish moments like these. Just you and me. I'm the man I am today because I met you at the ripe age of twenty-three, searching for my place in the world, and I found it. It's being by your side. I love you so much. It has always been you, D. Only you."

I sniffled again. "I'm doing it right this time. Davina Dialaurentis, would you do me this honor by marrying me?"

"Yes!" she whimpered.

Before I could get up, Davina lowered herself and wrapped her two arms around me. Her intoxicating lavender scent wafted to my nose. Fireworks exploded inside my chest as she pressed her lips on mine, in tune perfectly with each other. Her lips parted slightly, and I innocently snuck my tongue in, cherishing this incredible moment with my fiance. I poured all of my feelings into the kiss.

We broke apart, laughing, and we ran our fingers along each other's cheeks, wiping off the wetness. Once I got onto my legs, I gripped her left hand, warmth colliding with mine. Every part of our body fits perfectly together.

"Let's try to do this part without crying." I sniffled, failing already.

"Okay." Her voice was as soft as a feather.

With shaking hands, I pushed the ring through her ring finger, and my heart felt complete at the sight of it on her hand. The proposal might've not been picture-perfect to others, but to me, it was everything. We didn't need to be all dazzled up to make this a Davina and Ambrose moment because this embodied us in all glory.

It's funny.

I thought I would never meet another extraordinary girl like Lana in my lifetime. But the truth was, I just wasn't looking hard enough. Our relationship began as a sham in order to benefit each other. Looking back, I realized since day one I was always going to love this girl.

Ten ways to get over Lana Hart?
