I used to have to often wear a tuxedo because I played in orchestras throughout high school and college and for some reason tuxedos are the official uniform of performances.  I actually often got compliments on my appearance while wearing them and it does seem that tuxedos make you look good, but I still want to know what the heck the cummerbund is all about?  Like, why are those things there?  Who came up with them?  They're kind of like a belt but they don't hold anything up and thus serve no function other than as some sort of weird decorative piece.  I mean the bow ties are pretty weird, too, don't get me wrong.  

Heck, by the same token, I've always thought neckties were weird.  Who the hell decided a strip of cloth hanging down from your neck looks good?  And yet we all collectively had agreed, yeah that's high style.  That's called dressing up. 

People are endlessly weird.
