MADE OF GREED. [ imagine dragons - demons ]

FLASHBACK (MANY YEARS AGO . . .)
note : this is after ice accepted him into his
home and started training with the Wonder :P

"I don't know if I can control it." Blaze sulks, letting Ice bandage his arms again, covering the aided wounds and bruises that trailed all over his body. Blue and purple splashed onto his tan skin, the effects of overusing his wild firepower.

Ice ties the sheets into a ribbon, using the back of his hand to wipe his sweat off, offering a hanky to Blaze so he could do the same.

"Of course you can." He retorts, putting a hand on Blaze's poofed-up hair, orange eyes looking down at the floor. "You just need to believe and learn from your mistakes." He ruffles the boy's brown hair.

"Yeah, but.." He trails off, rubbing his cheek.

"Don't do that." Ice swats the hand away and frowns at the disoriented patch. "And no butts here. The least you can do is at least accept the fact that you have superpowers.

Blaze bites his lower lip, cutting the sentence short. "Yeah, I know! But it doesn't make sense, Ice. I'm an exorcist. I-I shouldn't be able to have.."

"Maybe it's genetically inherited." The blue-eyed Wonder stares at the younger boy and sighs, "Most powers come from parents. I don't know what your past is, or who they are, but that's nothing I've seen before."

A long exhale came out of the exorcists' lips. "I don't know much about my parents either." He winces at the sting from the iodine on his kneecap. "All I know is that they're not married."

An illicit child? Ice's orbs widened slightly, and he ducked down so Blaze wouldn't see his surprise. "Go on."

The said boy looks away, "I don't want to talk about it."

Rising to his feet, the Third Wonder extends a hand for the human exorcist to accept. There's only one way to coax him into trusting me. The fiery boy looks up, blue eyes against orange ones.

"Come with me." He says, shoving his free hand into the pocket of his trouser, as Blaze stood up too. "We're going somewhere, far from here."

"Really?" The boy grins widely, "Where?!"

They arrive in front of a building, with cracks on the walls, a giant metal gate in front of it. Blaze inclines his head slightly to read the words engraved onto the metal plate, hung by the concrete stone that stood at the opening.

"Isn't this just a normal school?" He asks, straightening his body and turning to Ice, who had unlocked the barriers. "Why are we here then?"

The Third Wonder throws the keys into the air, to which Blaze catches in his hands perfectly. "Enough chit-chat, we need somewhere to be." He says, pointing at the locks on the gate. "You're in charge of that."

"Hah?!" Blaze wanted to retort back, but Ice was already on his way to the lobby. He hurries, fumbling for the right one to chase back his mentor. "W-Wait, Ice!"

Some time passed after that. It took the boy for half an hour. Ice finally cracks his eyes open as soon as he heard the heavy footsteps advancing towards him, constantly yawning.  "What took you so long?" He asks the latter with a raspy voice, who shot him a dirty look.

"It would've saved us 20 minutes if you were the one doing it!"

"Too bad." Ice grins lazily, and off they went to the 2nd floor.

"Where are we going?" Blaze asks again, stepping up, not far behind the supernatural. "Is it far? I'm too lazy to walk anymore. Oh, I hope it's the canteen! I'm kind of hungry right now.."

His stomach proceeds to do a whale call, rumbling deep. "I'm craving for some ice cream," He adds, chatting obnoxiously, "Do you think we can have some Chinese takeout?!"

He was met with silence and the boy huffs, "You're ignoring me!"

"Not my problem." Ice replies. They continue to spiral upwards, getting up each flight of stairs. By now, the human boy starts to groan, droplets forming by his forehead. The Third Wonder snickers slightly at the sight of Blaze's mortal torture.

Up, up, up the rabbit hole they go.

"We're here." He says, stopping suddenly. This made the disoriented Blaze crash facefirst onto his broad back. "You can't do anything right, huh?"

"Shut up. I'm so tired from hiking up 10 floors!"

"Anyway, I was joking. My office's on the second floor. Looks like we're going to have to go back down." The blue-orbed spirit says, paying no attention to the fiery boy's gawking face, his jaw slacked open to readily nest flies in them. "Shut your mouth."

"You've got to be kidding me!" Blaze cries, "This is hell!"

Ice snorts, "And hell is where we live in. I'm kidding about it too."

"So, you were kidding about it?"

"Did you really think that I'd waste my energy on walking if it wasn't for something important?" The boy yelps, holding the bump on his forehead that the older apparition had flicked on. "Think again."

Before Blaze could retort, or even fly a punch towards the latter, Ice had pushed the doors to their right wide open, revealing the rooftop. "This is my favorite place to go." He ushers for the teen to come in, as the wind gently caressed their body. "Not a lot of people come here."

They look around, seeing the sun that's starting to set, perched between the hazy mountains in the horizon. Birds took flight from their respective places, right as Blaze set his eyes on them. The repeated hum of machinery took over their comfortable tranquility.

"Why are we here?" He asks, taking a seat where Ice patted, on the cement where they could see everything clearly. The rooftop of houses aligned with each other, wire cables right below.

Ice turns to him, "As I said. This is my safe haven. It's where I come to when I'm stressed, or whenever I feel lonely." He leans forward, bringing his legs close to his body. "You're the first person to know this."

"Woah, really? I feel honored then!"

"You should." With a genuine laugh, a hand rests on top of Blaze's fluffy hair, tousling it gently. "Not alone of people get to know me. At least, I don't open up to people easily."

The said boy points at himself, innocently. "Then why tell me?"

"Because I trust you." Ice lets go of his hand. "Isn't that obvious?"

Blaze blinks, the tips of his ear slightly turning red from the flattering compliment. "That's.. nice to know." He clears his throat and averts his gaze away to settle on the view presented before him. "I understand why you like this place now. It's really beautiful!"

"Yes, it is. A lot of times, people tend to overlook the little things in life that make it bearable. Like this," The other gestures to their surroundings, "Is just one of the many."

"Huh, I've never thought of it that way."

"You still have a lot to learn. When I was your age, I thought the same too. I wanted to do things my way. You know, that saying? It's my way or the highway." Ice shakes his head, smiling lightly. "The world doesn't work that way. Learned it the hard way back then.

Destiny isn't something you can go against, either. No matter how hard you try to change and decide for the best, your future is always laid out in front of you. Sure, there are hardships. There are times when we all give up, but get back up and run for the goal."

Blaze's mind melts, feeling muddle. "That's a lot to take in."

"Well, it's been in our genes since ancestry. Just don't give up."

Just don't give up. The words resonate through the younger exorcist, who clenches his palms into balls, now determined. "Okay." He sniffles, a bit. "I won't. I promise!"

"Good." Ice's eyes fluttered close. "That's what I want to hear."

Blaze steals a small look at the spirit, who's hair was tossed back in the wind, the golden rays of the sun highlighting his otherworldly features. "Hey, Ice." He tears his eyes away for the umpteenth time that day, unable to suppress his curiosity. "Mind if I ask you something?"

"Hm?" He hums in reply, "Ask ahead."

"Why did you choose to become a Wonder? From what I know, you're still here because you owe something to the Gods, right? I don't sense anything bad off yo- wait, why are you laughing?"

Ice chortles in laughter, a melody that streamed out of his mouth. It's the first time that Blaze heard this, so long. It sounded familiar too. "You're the first one to ask me that." He answers, after a while. "You crazy lad. Always asking the good things."

"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to."

"Would you really like to know about my past?"

"If it doesn't bother you, then yeah! Obviously!"

"Hm." The blue-eyed apparition smiles, "I'll tell you then. But don't blame me if you weren't prepared for the truth, alright?" Seeing Blaze's nod, he sighs. "I chose to become a Wonder because I have a love-hate relationship with this school."

His mouth shaped a perfect, round o. "You used to be in here?"

"Yes. And you were half-right when you said that I committed nothing bad against the people. I love the students equally. The catch was that I did it to myself, one day."

Blaze's eyes multiplied wider. "You mean..?"

"I took my own life when I was 15." Ice confesses, "And that's a regret I have to live with the rest of my life, until now."
