He doesn't care.

Those words rang bitterly in Victor's ears as he glared across the living room at Seraph, who was reading a book innocently.

Why should he care? Victor thought, a sick feeling in his gut. I'm nothing compared to him. I wouldn't be surprised if he thinks I'm a hassle to be around.

Victor's morbid fears had been almost confirmed several nights before, where the Mortis family sat around the television. Inspired by the TV show, Matthew had turned to Umbra, proclaiming that he was his best friend. Aunora followed, stating her love for Esper. And Seraph? Nothing. He had sat vacantly beside Victor.

He and Seraph hadn't even had a full, in-depth conversation for a couple days. Were they drifting apart? Or had Victor assumed Seraph had cared more for him than he actually did?

Whatever it was, it left Victor pinned to the couch, the one hundred pound weight of abandonment sitting on his chest.

"Victor, are you okay? You have been looking rather upset today," Seraph said, cocking his head.

"You don't have to keep on acting like you care about me," Victor murmured weakly, averting his eyes.

"Pardon?" Seraph gasped, "Victor, what are you speaking of?"

"Thursday night! When every one was proclaiming their love for each other, you didn't even day anything! Nothing at all!" Victor hadn't realized he was on the verge of tears.

"You wanted me to say something?" Seraph blinked, his face pale.

"Of course I did!" Victor cried.

"I had just assumed that you did not need that validation of our kinship. You saved my life and brought me back from the brink of death. We fought side by side. I thought our bond was unspoken."

Victor paused, hot tears running down his cheeks. He looked at Seraph in a new light, choking for a breath of air. Was that really how he felt? That they were so close, they didn't even need a confirmation?

Seraph sat down beside him, wrapping his arms around him. "Victor, I did not know you felt this way. I am so sorry if I made it appear that I did not care."

Victor pressed his face into the curve of Seraph's neck. "No, no, don't apologize, please. This is my fault," he bit his lip, sniffing as he held back another wave of tears, "I just get...insecure sometimes. I get scared that you don't like me anymore. I just have to hear that you still care for me, okay?"

Seraph nodded, holding him by the shoulders. "If that will ease your nerves, Victor, I will definitely do that. Anything for my best friend."
