Experience always reaps benefits and Emaan was reaping the benefits of her experience gained at working in a children's clinic .Though the past weeks in Al Firdous Aleppo Hospital had not been easy for her because of the hectic schedule and her lack of experience of working in a hospital and that too in a new country, among new people & the ever-present fear of Dr Dracula had kept her on her toes and heights of anxiety .But what she had thought would be the major problem was the language ,but this is where her experience came in use and solved her problem to very much extent. As in the children's clinic in which she had worked, most of her patient's parents were not educated and thus weren't able to explain exactly what symptoms or ailment their child was experiencing and thereby she became quite good in knowing the disease by simply examining without needing any kind of information provided by patients or their parents. As a result Emaan's fear had slowly started to get replaced with confidence & her colleagues appreciations was also helping in boosting her morale ,though  Khaled had remained passive about her performance but she was happy & relaxed  that atleast she hadn't had to face his wrath uptil now and everything was calm. But often calmness is just the silence before the storm.

Emaan stood outside the pediatric ward ,waiting for Dr Khaled to finish his conversation with Dr Kurdi ,the head physician of pediatric ward. While she stood upright ,her heart  palpitated with fears and several anxieties about the moment when she will have to face the wrath of Dr Khaled because of the blunder she had committed. She stood there gauging his expressions ,wishing that their conversation never ends or that she becomes invisible or anything to save her from facing him & his wrath . When he turned ,she immediately looked down ,chanting every dua in her heart ,he didn't stopped nor looked at her but just passed by her asking her to come in his cabin in his cold tone. Emaan gulped hard ,and curbing her desire to run away to never come back, she followed him. Entering the office ,she let the door open as she had noticed that Khaled never closed the door when he was alone with any female in his office ,something she had started to admire .

( Prophet Muhammad ( pbuh) had said : "No man is alone with woman but the Shaitaan is the third one present"[Narrated by Ahmed, Tirmidhi and Hakim])

Emaan was agitated at her mind, while her heart was making supplications to escape Dr Dracula's wrath ,her mind was busy admiring his qualities. She was perplexed at this battle between her mind and heart which the man seething in anger before her had unknowingly had started.
Emaan came out of her thoughts when she heard his voice ,keeping his both hands in his pockets and his eyes on the reports that Dr Kurdi gave him ,Khaled said in his bone chilling tone,

" Dr Emaan I was told that I had to guide you but do tell me do I have to teach you basic things of treating a patient too "

Emaan looked down feeling embarrassed and hiding her tears that had welled up in her eyes .
" Would you answer me ,Dr Emaan?". Khaled' s voice boomed.

" No ,doctor " Emaan said meekly.

" Then can you tell me the reason why you didn't tried to know the history of your patient or you weren't taught that knowing history of a patient is basic and vital aspect in treating a patient" Khaled  tone becoming more colder.

" I was taught " Emaan spoke with difficulty she felt her throat had dried like she had not drank water since ages.

Emaan flinched as Khaled slammed both hands on the table as he said,
" Then why didnt you followed it ,or do you think you are so good that you don't need to follow any thing that had been taught to you.....Dr Emaan,do you even realize that your stupidity could have cost that child his life if not by Allah's mercy Dr Kurdi wasn't there to handle the case."

" I am sorry" Emaan whispered looking down feeling ashamed of herself.

" Dr Emaan ,you need to decide whether you have come here to say sorries or to treat people!"
Khaled said bitterly.

Emaan had no courage to reply ,so she just nodded her head.

Khaled rubbed his forehead as he said ,
" You can leave now"

Emaan nodding her head  immediately turned to leave when she heard him ,

" Dr Emaan ,don't make us regret our decision of appointing you here "

Without turning ,Emaan nodded her head and left his office with tears and humiliation as token.

Emaan was sitting in the cabin that was shared by other four doctors of her team. It was lunch time but she had no appetite ,her stomach was already satiated with emotions of guilt and sadness. Sidra sitting beside her ,tried to uplift her mood as she said,
" You don't need to focus on the words of Dr Dracula ,he is like that only ...rude  or sado as you say"

Hamza who was standing by his table ,listening to Sidra said,

" But Dr Sidra whatever Dr Khaled said was right ,Dr Emaan's mistake could have cost that child's life or he could have gone into diabetic coma if Dr Kurdi hadn't handled the case.If only Dr Emaan had asked about that child's personal history she would have known he was a patient of Type 1 diabetes ,and she would not have given him glucose drip"

Sidra glared at him but before she could say anything to him ,she heard Emaan,
"Dr Hamza is right I deserved it ...my carelessness could have cost that child's  life and would have broken a family"

Sidra side hugged Emaan as she said,

" Emaan it doesn't mean if you are a doctor you can't make mistakes ,you are human too ,everybody makes mistakes...and at the end what matters is alhamdulilah everything is alright "

" But being a doctor I need to be more careful Sidra, because on my action stands a matter of life and death ,happiness and sorrow of someone" Emaan said looking down as tears had again started brimming in her eyes. Sidra looked helplessly at her then  scowling at Hamza she said,

" What are you doing here , don't you have to pray salah or something"

" I already prayed "Hamza said nonchalantly.

" Thuma wadhhab waeilaj bed almradaa 'aw 'ayu shay' walakum gadar min huna"( then go treat some patients or something but just leave from here) Sidra said .

" Limadha taghdhabu ,qult halaqqiat Illtw" ( Why are you getting angry? I just said the truth). Hamza replied back.

" Shukraana litanwirina bialhaqi alhdy kan mithl almulihi li 'alam sadiqiun"( oh thank you for enlightening us with the truth which was like salt to my friend's pain), Sidra retorted back.

Sidra and Hamza glared at eachother before Hamza looked down and walked away. Looking at his retreating back ,Sidra heaved a sigh wishing Yamama had not taken off today so she could have helped her in consoling and cheering Emaan. Sidra felt today was just not her day with her unceasing cramps, then annoying Hamza, and then seeing her friend sad had turned her day from bad to worse. Her chain of thoughts was broken by Emaan,as she asked,

" Sidra!! You still can't pray ?"

Sidra nodded her head in negative.

" Are you still having cramps"

Sidra nodded and smiled at Emaan's concern that despite her own overwhelming sadness ,Emaan was still concerned about her well being. Emaan reached for her bag and took out her tiffin and giving it to Sidra ,she said,
"Eat this and then have medicine,it will lessen your pain in sha Allah ...till then I will go and offer my Salah before my break gets over"

Sidra overwhelmed by Emaan's kindness ,engulfed her in a hug as she said,
" You know Emaan ,you are an amazing human being and an amazing doctor too okay ...no matter what anybody  says..."
Breaking the hug ,she continued,

" Now go and pray salah and come back faster because I won't be eating this until you come"

Emaan tried to deny but with one glare of Sidra she gulped down all her words and nodding ,she stood up and left to pray Salah.

Adjoined to the building of Al Firdous Aleppo Hospital was a beautiful  Al Firdous mosque .When Emaan had first time seen the mosque ,she was in awe by its beauty and simplicity and seeing that it had both men and women section ,had given her happiness a new height .

Emaan stood outside the mosque ,taking off her sneakers when Khaled also came out of the men section of mosque after praying Salah .For a mere moment their eyes collided ,the tearful brown ones against cold hazel . But this moment was only for a fraction of seconds as they immediately looked away. Emaan quickly took off her sneakers and ran inside ,rubbing off her tears that had graced her face. While Khaled sat down on the stairs and wore his shoes, but before standing up he looked up at the place where he had seen Emaan a minute ago ,staring that place for a while,he stood up and left, with one thought running in his mind,

Did I over did it.
