Kelly

Courtney was overreacting. I just knew it.

She was freaking out just a little about the fact that we were going to be snowed in. It wouldn’t be too bad. It was only a foot and a half of snow.

Wait. A foot and a half of snow?

Apparently the record snowfall in Minnesota was 3 feet in 24 hours, and about 5 and a half in a multiple day snowstorm. But those numbers were from the 90s or something. We hadn’t had a record snowfall like that in so long. We were fine, right?

“Should we just watch a movie to distract ourselves from this? Maybe it’ll get warm tonight and it’ll melt a bit down to something more manageable,” Lucy said. “Let’s just all eat our pizza and calm down a bit.”

“She’s right,” Niall said. “We need to stop worrying about it.” He kept eating his pizza, and we all went silent as we did the same thing. We did need to stop worrying about it. If we kept worrying, we’d be freaked out all night and be unable to sleep.

The only words that were said for a while were, “Do we need to put the next pizzas in?” Liam was the one who said it. It was answered with head nods, all saying yes. He silently got up and went to the oven to do just what he asked.

Nobody spoke. We listened to the sounds of our knuckles accidentally hitting the plate as we picked up our pizza and the soft thud that our glasses made when we set them down after taking a drink.

This was boring, honestly.

“So…” someone finally said, breaking the silence again. Thank goodness, someone else was awkward in this moment. I was so out of this, I didn’t even notice who had spoken.

“What time is it?” Zayn asked softly from beside me.

“Uh, now it’s about 8:30. We started the pizza really late,” I replied.

“Okay. So, should we finish the movie when we’re all done, and while we wait for the next pizza batch to be done?” he suggested.

Nobody said anything at first. They shared looks, making decisions in their head. “Sure,” I heard Courtney say. “We need a distraction, like Lucy and Niall said. Movies are good distractions,” she said.

“Yeah. And whoever isn’t done, just bring your food and drink over to the TV. We don’t care. We can clean up if you spill or something,” Ana said with a small smile. She stood up, leaving her clean plate on the table, and the rest of us followed suit.

We took our seats that we had before dinner and unpaused the movie. We were watching the Avengers, because you know, why not? It was fun. We all started laughing at all the funny parts, sitting together and enjoying each other’s company as the snow fell around us. It kept us from going crazy.

After a while, the second pizza was done. Michael got up and cut the pieces, and then took one for himself before he came to sit beside us. The other people who were hungry got up at various times in the next few minutes to get some pizza for themselves, but they came back and continued to watch the movie with us. The only real sounds we got from everyone was laughter, and possibly breathing.

After a while, the pizza was gone and the movie came to an end. It was about 10:30 by then, and most people were getting tired.

“I’m tired,” said Lizzie, yawning. “I’m going to bed. It’s break. I’m going to get the sleep that school’s been depriving me of.” She gave everyone a wave and both Louis and her brother a hug before she retreated to the lower level.

“Tanner, do you want to stay the night? We can find you someplace to stay so you don’t have to go back in this,” Lucy offered him. That was the first mention of the weather in a few hours.

“Yeah, that’d be great. I’ll call my parents to let them know. Thanks,” he said and got up to go use the phone by the front door.

“We can make space in our room,” Kyle offered. “I’ll sleep on the floor and he can take my bed,” he then supplied.

“If you’re willing, Kyle, that sounds great,” Simone replied. Then she said, “I’m heading to bed. Later,” and left before we could even say goodnight right back to her.

Tanner came back in a moment later and said, “She says okay, since it’s better to stay where it’s safe then to try to get back home in this weather. Thanks.”

“No problem. Go ahead and take the bed by the far wall in our room,” Michael said. “Goodnight man,” he said.

Soon after, everyone was going to bed. We all said goodnight to each other as we stood in the hallway downstairs, some exchanging hugs and kisses before heading into their rooms. I snuck Zayn a peck on the cheek when nobody was looking, knowing I’d never hear the end of it. The girls still teased me a bit about the airport incident.

When everyone else went into their rooms, I went into mine. The room was dark and I wanted to keep it that way for Lizzie’s sake, but I knew I couldn’t. I needed the light so I could change into my pajamas. I flicked on the light, only to hear a groan from the occupied bed.

“Why do you hate me?” I heard come from underneath the blankets, which had covered her head as soon as I turned the light on.

“I’m sorry Lizzie. I needed the light to put on my pajamas,” I apologized and grabbed them off the bed where I left them. “I’ll turn it off as soon as I’m done, I swear.”

“You want to kill me…” I heard her say again.

“Sorry,” I say and quickly change. Then, I flick the light switch off and go to my bed. “Goodnight Lizzie.”

“I hate you Kelly,” she replied and I just laughed. I laid my head on my pillow and drifted off to sleep.

----------

I went to bed a bit before 11, and I woke up at 6. So much for catching up on sleep.

I sat up in bed and glanced over at my friend, who was still sleeping. So she was going to get the sleep she wanted. I chose not to wake her up and went upstairs to see my friends.

It was fairly quiet up there. Nobody else was there, unless they were in the bathroom. Once I noticed that, I shrugged it off and went to the fridge to see what I could find for breakfast. I was really hungry right now. I poured myself a glass of juice and made myself a few toaster waffles before I sat at the table to eat.

It was about halfway through my first waffle when I looked out the window. My eyes widened. I could see more than the six inches over the windowsill from last night. It was more like a foot and a half over the sill. 2 and a half feet of snow were outside of the house. That was a lot of snow, and I could see it was still snowing a bit more at the moment.

We were going to be snowed in, and I was freaking out a bit.

I heard footsteps from behind me, and I chewed on my lip. “Who’s there?” I asked.

“Me,” a voice replied, and I recognized it as Zayn. “I couldn’t sleep all that much. Apparently you couldn’t either,” he said. He took a seat beside me at the table. He noticed the snow and sighed. “So, what is that, 2 and a half feet or something?”

“Yeah. I don’t think we should open any doors. It’ll be too tough to get out the door,” I replied.

“So, what does that mean? We’re snowed in?” he asked me, to which I nodded.

“Yeah, basically. Here, I’m gonna call my parents to tell them that we’re all okay. Then you should probably call some people to make sure they know you’re okay, like your parents or something,” I said and got up. I headed over to the phone and picked up the receiver.

I dialed my home phone number and waited for it to ring, but it didn’t. I got that beeping, like the line was disconnected. I shrugged and tried another number, my father’s cell. Again, it didn’t work. I got the same beeping. Then it hit me.

The phone lines were out because of the storm. The thing that surprised me was that the lights and heat were still working. Then I remembered, we had installed a generator in case anything happened, so we would have heat and electricity. Well, I guess that’s a good thing. We weren’t going to freeze, and we still had ways to make food and other things. That was a good thing to know.

“I think the phone lines are down,” I told Zayn, and he just sighed.

“Well that’s great,” he said sarcastically and got up. “So what should we do?”

“Uh, finish off our breakfast and wait for everyone to wake up and join us. I think that sounds like a good deal,” I replied and looked at my boyfriend.

He nodded. “Okay, sure. Are there any more of those toaster waffles in the fridge?” he asked me.

“Yup. There’s another half box I think. You’ll be fine. And feel free to make yourself a cup of tea or coffee or whatever you’re in the mood for to wake you up,” I replied and took my seat at the table again.

“Thanks Kelly,” he said and smiled at me.

“No problem,” I responded before I started to eat my waffle again. I sat at the table and waited for the rest of my friends to appear.

They came up one at a time, all trudging up the stairs a bit. They all seemed tired, except for Lizzie, who came up last and was not even close to tired. She must have gotten the best sleep out of all of us.

The rest of the people, the ones who seemed tired, must have been unable to sleep because of what we were all worrying about. The weather, it must have kept them awake.

“Well, look at the window. It looks like we’re not getting out of here anytime soon,” I heard Harry comment as he sat down at the table with a plate of food.

“Yeah. At least we’re all set with food and things like that,” Simone said and sighed. “I am so tired.” Then her eyes widened. “Wait, did we bring all the presents in from the car?” She asked, like that was the most important thing in the world at the moment.

“We brought them in the night we came, I think, or maybe the next morning. Either way, they’re in the house,” Ana replied.

“Is that really what you care about?” Niall asked, looking at her. “The presents you’re getting?”

“Well, I brought presents for everyone, and I didn’t want mine to freeze,” she said. “I worked pretty hard on them.”

“You made something?” Kyle asked her.

“Yeah. I’m not going to tell you what, but you’ll like it,” she said with a smile.

“Well, I can’t wait to open them,” Lucy smiled, looking at her sister. “I wasn’t even around when she made this stuff. I must have been somewhere,” she said.

“You went to the movies with your band friends,” Simone said. “Anyway, it looks like we need to come up with something to do around here. So what should we do?”

The group of us went silent for a minute, and then I decided to speak up. I turned to the group and said, “How about we play a game?”

“Like what?” Louis asked me, sipping a drink he had poured for himself.

“I don’t know. We’ve got Apples to Apples, Monopoly, more trivia games than I know what to do with,” I admit and look over at my friends. “What do you guys think?”

“We may as well do something besides have movie marathons on the couch or something. We have to switch it up,” Liam said, thinking about it. “Sure, let’s play.”

I smiled when I heard this. So, they liked my ideas. “Okay, great. All of you, take a seat. I’ll go get the game.”

“Apples to Apples?” Ana asked.

“Easiest to set up, plus it’s more fun,” I mused and shrugged before I went to find it. This was going to be fun.

Maybe being snowed in wouldn’t be so bad after all.

A/N I am so sorry. This chapter is long overdue. It took much longer than I expected to edit the chapters because school got busy, plus family things happened. I really hope you all like this chapter. I worked fairly hard on it for a few hours straight.

Question for you all, since I don't think I was able to ask you guys when it was more recent, what do you think of FOUR? I think this might be their best one yet. I think this album has a great sound for them.

Anyway, feel free to tell me what you think, your favorite songs from the new album, and also what you think of the chapter in the comments! Don't forget to vote too! Hopefully the next chapter will be up soon!
