Still Dawn's POV...

I went back to my room with Paul's dinner only to find out that Paul has left. I had a good guess of where he went though and after putting his food on a table I headed to the emergency room, where Torterra was.

Third Person's POV

Dawn ran down the hall and silently entered the room Torterra was being held. She saw Paul sitting in front of Torterra, gently rubbing his head. She crept closer and sat next to Paul, putting her hand on his shoulder.

"Paul, it'll be ok," Dawn replied, gently rubbing circles on his back. "Torterra is a strong Pokemon, he'll be healed in no time. No need to worry."

"When you say that it makes me even more worried." Paul replied. Dawn laughed lightly saying that's something her mother would say as well, something similar to that. Paul continued to rub Torterra's head and Dawn watched silently. She saw something fall on Torterra's head, which caused the large turtle Pokemon to stir. Torterra slowly opened his eyes at looked at his master. The scene caused Torterra to be shocked. There was Paul with tears in his eyes falling on his head. Why is my master crying? Torterra licked the tears, which caused Paul to look at him.

"Torterra," Paul said, with more tears forming. I wish Dawn wasn't hear right now, seeing me cry. But Torterra's up, I think I'll be fine if it was only her watching.

"I am so sorry for what happened to you. It was all my fault, if I paid more attention to your injuries and your needs instead of being selfish this wouldn't have happened." Torterra continued to lick his masters tears away.

"It was my fault you got injured, it was my fault for causing you so much pain. I am the worst trainer ever." Torterra shook his head as if saying that it was not true, but Paul was oblivious and continued to rant on how it was his fault for hurting Torterra. Dawn wrapped her arms around Paul shoulders.

"Paul, don't worry. Torterra knows you didn't mean to do this. Torterra is strong he believes in you, you should believe in him as well."

Paul took a deep breath to control himself, "You right Dawn." He looked at Torterra. "Torterra if you heal, no, when you heal, I'm going to give you to Ash. He will be a much better trainer than I am." Torterra shook his head and yelled at Paul.

"TORTERRA!!!" He then fainted from the pain. The nurses quickly rushed Paul out of the room as Dawn followed.

"What did I do?"

"Paul, you idiot. Don't tell Torterra you are going to give him away. You may have been harsh before but Torterra knows you never meant for this to happen. He believes in you Paul. He trusts you and cares about you. Do you think that just because you're not Ash means he doesn't want to stay with you? Paul, Torterra is your first Pokemon and you both have a strong bond, with all you Pokemon in fact. Can you please believe that they trust you?" Dawn was frustrated with what Paul told Torterra. She wanted him to know that many trainers are different and that Ash isn't any better.

"But-"

"Don't "but" me Paul. Torterra cares for you and if you give him away do you think he will stay with Ash? No, he will follow you until you take him back no matter what you say to him." Paul didn't know what to say. He was shocked that Dawn would defend him, no matter how much trouble he caused her and he was happy that Torterra still wanted him as his trainer. Just then Brock arrived, hearing all the chaos. Dawn explained what happened and Brock nodded in agreement.

"She's right Paul, just because we don't understand you doesn't mean your Pokemon don't. They know you better than we do and understand your purposes. Even if Ash was a better trainer I don't think your Pokemon will stay with him for long. They will probably leave to find you. SPeaking of which, here." Brock gave Paul his Pokemon back. Paul released Honchkrow and Magamator. Like Weavile and Ursaring, they were happy to see their old trainer back and he gave them each a hug, crying silently again.

"I am so sorry for how I treated you guys, I promise I would become a better trainer." His Pokemon were happy.

The next day...

"Ok the first thing to do is smile at your Pokemon." Dawn then showed Paul what she meant and told him to do it, so he tried to smile. Keyword tried.

"No, come on Paul I know you can do it." He smiled yesterday, well it was small but still... Maybe he can only smile without realizing he's smiling. "Try again." And so Paul tried to smile again, and he failed again. Oh Arceus, he has forgotten how to smile. They skipped the smiling part and went to train.

"Lopunny, ice beam."

"Weavile use metal claw followed by ice beam as well." Weavile did what he told to and Lopunny was unable to battle.

"You did well, Lopunny. You deserve a nice long rest." She then looked at Paul, urging him to tell his Pokemon, how well they did.

"Oh right. Nice job, Weavile," Paul said awkwardly. Weavile smiled happy to be praised, even if he wasn't normal. Dawn smiled Paul was learning to become better towards his Pokemon. He is kind of cute when he's like this. Dawn then blushed and shook her head. I need to focus there is no time to think about romantic stuff like how it would feel to hold his hand, or be embraced by him, or how kissable his lips- Dawn turned a darker shade of red and tried to get rid of it before Paul noticed, but was too late.

"You know your face keeps on turning red, you sure you're not sick or anything?" Dawn feel anime style along with her Pokemon, while Paul's Pokemon face-palm themselves at their trainers denseness. Seriously, his denseness could rivals Ash's if Ash was like Paul.

"What?" Paul wondered why they were all looking at him like he was an idiot, which right now he was, but Dawn just continued to help him. Suddenly, Dawn saw Ash and boy was he furious.

"What did you say to Torterra?!" Ash heard that Torterra fainted and he knew whose fault is was. Paul looked at Ash.

"Nothing."

"Don't give me that bullshit. I heard he fainted and it was your fault, now tell me what you said to him." Paul didn't say anything and proceeded to walk away. Ash was enraged by Paul's attitude and slammed Paul on his back. Paul fell from the unexpected hit and tried to get up only to be punched by Ash again.

"It's your fault Torterra is in the emergency room. It's your fault he was almost killed. It's your fault for being a terrible trainer." With ever word Ash spoke, the harder he hit Paul, and Paul didn't fight back, because he knew Ash was right. Dawn tried to get Ash off of Paul, only to get hurt in the process. Ash stopped attacking Paul and went wide eyed when he realized he had hit Dawn. By then Brock came and took Ash off of Paul.

"Dawn...aw man...I am so-"

"Save it." Dawn was beyond angry. She looked over at Paul and saw his condition was terrible. She got up and smacked Ash across the face. Paul got up and spoke.

"The reason Torterra fainted was because I told him that you were going to be his new trainer, shows how much he cares for you." With that said he ran away into the forest not even going to Pokemon Center to get his wounds cleaned.

"Paul." Dawn was about to run after him when Brock stopped her.

"Brock, I need to make sure he's ok."

"I know but take these with you, if he's not going back to the Pokemon Center you should clean his wounds so they won't get infected."

"Thank you." And with that, Dawn left to find Paul.

"Is it true?" Ash asked.

"Yeah, Dawn told me about it."

"Why would he be mad about me being a trainer? I mean I am way nicer and treat they better."

"Yeah but think about it, what if you almost caused Pikachu to have the same condition as Torterra, how do you think Pikachu would act if he knew you were going to give him away over one mistake?"

"But that's different-"

"No it's basically the same thing. Paul doesn't show us that he truly cares for his Pokemon, but they know and even if his personality and attitude aren't the best, he still formed a bond with them just like you and Pikachu."

"I guess you're right." Ash looked at the Pokeball that held Electabuzz and thought about what Brock had said. Maybe he does care. I mean I have never seen him act this way and I don't know what he does to his Pokemon other than the things I see him do when we battle. Is it possible he realizes his mistake? Is he really trying to become a nicer trainer and a better person?
