Woe is Me

My back is broken,
My mind is scarred,
These legs fail me,
Whilst my ankles snap.

I tell no lies,
But this mouth does not obey,
It spits words of anger and shame.

There is no glory in this name,
Only the honour,
Of death.

This tongue is trapped,
Like a mermaid's heart,
In the clutches,
Of a prince.

I speak no more,
I dance 'till dawn,
And my slippers turn threadbare.

Sick to my stomach,
I have the urge to vomit,
All that is left,
Of me.
