Backstory: MacGyver found Amelia on his doorstep when she was 2. No note was left with the girl, but Mac fell for the child instantly. He took her to the Phoenix Foundation, hoping to find something about her. It turned out that Amelia's mother had been one of the Phoenix Foundation's best agents. She had known MacGyver and had left her daughter with strict instructions to get to him if the need would arise. And, sure enough, the need had arisen. The girl's mother had been discovered dead in her apartment, killed days ago. When Amelia saw her mother dying, she had immediately left for MacGyver's, knowing her mother trusted him. MacGyver decided to keep the girl, and Amelia began to live with Mac.
