WEEK 113

Prompt:

The child had forgotten again.

Grandmother, tell me, how did we die?

She looked at the undead boy, sighed, and began the story again.

****************

"My sweet boy, it begins when you were young," The grandmother began.

"I'm still young," the boy replied.

"Younger than this my dear."

"How young?"

"All the way back to when you were only one-hundred and ninety-three years old."

He tilted his head to the side, trying to recall all that he'd learnt back then.

He sighed dejectedly, "I don't think I can remember Grandmother, it's been too long."

His grandmother sighed at his impatience, saying, "That is why I am telling you, love. When you were young you were so adventurous that you, believe it or not, decided to take on the realm's most dangerous challenge.

Watching TikTok."

"TikTok? And what is that supposed to be?" the boy asked.

"It was an ancient form of something called social media. Oh yes....the influencers were furious with me for blowing up the TikTok servers.....never understood why it was such a big deal."

"Hearing that word sparks so much nostalgia in me for some reason," the boy said, "It reminds me of yesterday's blue skies of happiness and laughter."

"So I'm taking it the influencers hired someone to murder me grandmother?"

"Unfortunately, my dear," she muttered, carefully looking left and right, before inching closer, "The answer's..."

He cried out desperately, "Tell me what the answer is grandmother."

"Halloween candy in July!" Grandmother cried out in fear, her stare distant.

"Hello-een? What's that? It sounds fun!"

His grandmother sighed. "It's Hallo-ween and you don't remember?"

"I don't know what that is," he answered.

It did not matter how they died, the grandmother and her grandson were happy in their own world....and they could eat Halloween candy in July.
