________

The sound of silence that was inside the tube was louder than she remembered. She couldn't hear anything, nothing but her own breathing. Quinn looked back at Lace just as the ground beneath her began to rise up-- she felt like she was going to throw up, or like her heart was going to beat to violently that it was just going to break out of her chest cavity. Quinn looked up from where the bright sunlight was coming from, she let herself take a few deep breaths, forcing each one out so it wouldn't get caught in her throat. She couldn't act scared once she was out there, during the seventy-third games she could-- but not now. Not after everything that had happened-- not when she was going to be up against other Victors.

She could feel her heart beat, and she could even hear it too. Her head was pounding because of the anxiety. It wasn't even that she was terrified of the other Victors-- it was the arena she was afraid of. It was the game makers she was afraid of, Snow had more power in that game making room than most people knew about. Quinn took another deep breath and shook the thought of Snow out of her head. If she let herself get distracted by Snow, by the game makers-- that would kill her. If she could just stay focused enough on making it through the first day...

Quinn watched as the bright light got closer and closer to her. Until finally, the heat hit her and she cursed under her breath as the heat became accompanied with humidity as her head peeked through the hole and her entire body followed. Before she knew it, she stood on her pedestal and looked out at the arena before her. She was surrounded by crystal blue water, and there were stoney paths connecting the rocky, uneven island where the silver Cornucopia was with the sandy beaches. The water was divided so there was only two pedestals in each. Besides two, in hers, there were three. She was in the middle, to one side of her was Johanna Mason, to the other was Ophelia from Ten. Surrounding the beach was a jungle-- a thick, dense jungle.

Her eyes began to dark around, looking for a select few. She found Peeta in the next section, then in the section on the other side of his was Cashmere, Blight from Seven, and Orion. She let out a small sigh of relief because she knew where Orion was, but Finnick, Mags, and Katniss must have been on the opposite side of the cornucopia.

"Let the seventy-fifth begin," a voice announced in the arena. "May the odds be ever in your favor." it finished as a red holographic box appeared above the Cornucopia flashing the number ten. "Ten...nine..."

Quinn quickly stopped looking at the Victors and started looking at the Cornucopia. It was strange, before, in her last games, she thought of running away from the Cornucopia. This time, she had no choice but to go to it. Her eyes scanned the rocky ground for something, anything. Her eyes found a trident inside the cornucopia, but she knew for a face that Finnick was better at using one than she was...

But you were good with it too, she thought to herself. But you have better aim with a spear.

Quinn sighed, bracing herself to dive into the water. She would go for a spear, but she couldn't see one.

"Four...three...two...one."

As soon as the countdown finished, the gong filled the arena and announced the beginning of the games. And it was almost reflexive. As soon as the gong sound, Quinn dove into the water. She wasn't a fantastic swimmer-- but she had done a bit of swimming with Isabella in the lake. So she had gotten decent enough at it, that she knew she could make it to one of the paths fairly quickly. The cool water was thick with salt-- it was nothing like the lake outside the fence. But regardless of the salt, she forced her eyes open so she could at least see the outlines of shapes and the wall before she ran into it. Her hands grabbed the stone, and frantically looked for something to grip onto as she bobbed her her head out to breathe and pull herself up onto the path. Her eyes burned from the salt, but she ignored it and got to her feet and began to run towards the cornucopia.

She was nearly there when she saw that Enobaria was pulling herself onto the same path. But she Quinn knew for a fact that she couldn't stop or do anything to avoid running into her. So she kept running, and Enobaria had her head turned towards the cornucopia, looking to see what was going on there. So just as she began to push herself up Quinn quickened her pace, and made sure to get her knee to collide with the back of her head, causing her to fall back-- but not enough to fall into the water. If anything, it only gave Quinn a second to get past her before she was running after Quinn.

"Quinn!"

Quinn looked back towards the cornucopia to see Katniss, with her bow and arrow drawn. Quinn did the same thing as in the simulation room, but this time she dove back into the water from the side she had climbed up from. Then she swam the rest of the way to the cornucopia, heaving herself onto the island. She straightened herself up, and looked around for a weapon, a spear was knocked over or had been dropped by the dead Victor that she didn't bother to see who it was. She ran towards it and scooped up the spear in her hand and then turned to look to see where Katniss had gone. But she was gone, she was running down one of the paths, towards Mags. Quinn was about to run after her, but stopped as Gloss pulled himself up onto the island.

So to avoid anything with someone who was twice her size, she turned and ran around the cornucopia and onto the nearest path towards the beach. She wasn't going to make the mistake of joining the careers again, even though it hadn't really been an option-- but she wanted to be as far from them as possible. So she ran, as she neared the beach, she didn't bother to look back to see if someone was after her. All she knew was that she was alone, and if a group went after her-- she didn't have a chance.

She as soon as she hit the beach, she pushed some vines out of her way and ran deeper into the humid jungle. Until she found a big enough tree that she could stand behind to catch her breath. Her chest rose and fell rapidly as she tried to catch her breath. Her mind was racing-- she knew the general direction that Katniss and the others were in, she could meet up with them.

Quinn was brought out from her thoughts by the sound of a cannon, then another, and another...a total of eight cannons. Eight Victors were dead-- at least she hoped they were all Victors.

She sighed heavily and turned to begin walking in the direction she knew the alliance she was supposed to be in was. But it wasn't long before another Victor ran into the jungle from the beach. He had brown hair, and brown eyes-- a katana sword in his hand. And on his shoulder was the number 10. Quinn held her spear in both hands and pointed it at him, staring at him.

Agathias rose a hand as if to say he wasn't going to do anything, and he didn't even move his sword to defend himself. "I'm not going to kill you."

"I wasn't worried about that." Quinn retorted quickly.

"You ran in here alone?"

"So did you." she replied coldly, her eyes quickly looking behind him.

"There's only eight dead, you can't fight off a bunch of Victors by yourself." he replied.

"I have a big alliance." she retorted simply.

"Where are they?"

"Not here, obviously."

Agathias shifted on his feet uncomfortably. "Look," he paused, "I just wanted to go home."

"So did Quinten." her voice came out as cold and bitter.

He looked away from her, avoiding eye contact with her. "I didn't want to, he helped me--"

"Well you did." she stated plainly, but what he said had been right. She couldn't fight off Victors on her own-- maybe one, but not any of the careers. "Do you have an alliance?"

"District Seven and my District Partner was my alliance." he replied, "Ophelia didn't make it back there..." he said, his voice threatening to crack but he quickly regained his composure.

"What happened to Seven?" she asked.

"Seven, Three, and Orion got of the Cornucopia not long before you." he replied.

Quinn mentally sighed with relief at the thought of Orion out there, alive.
